- "Local Legends" features arnis grandmaster Rodel Dagooc. Grandmaster Dagooc talks about the practicality and effectiveness of arnis and looks back on learning the martial art when he came to Manila to find work. He then explains how he began his career as a martial arts teacher and admits that his profession was not very profitable back in the 1960s and 1970s. After arnis gained more attention in the 1980s, Dagooc began receiving invitations to conduct arnis seminars abroad. He then used the money to start his own arnis cane manufacturing business. He demonstrates how to make grade A arnis canes and talks about the legacy he hopes to leave behind.

Yes arnis na ang national martial art and sport since 2009. R.A. 9850. Kaya lahat na ng highschools at colleges mandatory na may arnis sa PE.

I personally meet him sa ARNIS VILLAGE niya sa Taal, Batangas 2008. That time I saw him as old but fast and I was also learning ARNIS. Now I see him on video with the same face that seems he never got old. Got an old book from him with his personal signature and a 3 minute sparring with this guy. :) Carry on GM Rodel.

Before during the ancient filipino tribes wooden stick (Rattan) for beginers and Bladed weapons (machete and small blade knife) for experts was the standard weapons use before. However, during the Spanish era, carrying any bladed weapons were not allow that is why wooden stick (Rattan) were use until the recent time.

Local Legends is an understatement. as Arnis practitioner, I'm considering Arnis as my life, my culture and national heritage. it is in my blood.

Arnis po ang pinapangarap kong matutunan mula pa nung pagkabata kahit ngayon na 50 years old na ako mag aaral pa din po ako ng arnis kong meron akong pagkakataon,sayang nga din at hindi ako naturuan ng aking Ama noong bata pa ako dahil maaga ako nawalay sa kanila dahil sa hirap ng buhay,sa lahat ng mga Maestro sa Arnis,tanggapin po ninyo ang aking taos pusong pagpupugay at pasasalamat,mabuhay po kayo...

Filipinos love Arnis. It’s just that it’s expensive to get a lesson here. It’s now more on money making than enriching the art. It’s very hard to find a low cost Arnis lesson. The lessons are just for rich people who can afford it.
Did they show Arnis in the movies such as Game of Death when Bruce's buddy Dan Inosanto introduce the martial art?

Maswerte ako naging estudyante ako ng lolo ko. maswerte ako na naturuan ako dahil ngayon puro internet na alam ng kabataan at masgusto nila ang korean cuture mga kabataan. The last time a saw an arnis fight was when I was in my second grade and it was an spontaneous fight between my cousin and an outsider.

Sa sweden, ang swimming ay ginawa nilang compulsory learning sa lahat ng studyante nila dahil siguro cultura na nila ito mula pa sa panahon ng mga vikings. Dapat sa atin, gawin din sana nating compulsory learning ang arnis dahil bahagi ito ng cultura ng ating lahi...

Arnis arts.. Sticks.. Kali arts.. Hand to hand combat.. Eskrima arts.. swords and knife / blades... Sarong arts (most common in mindanao and few disciples and some of them have pencak silat arts originated from malaysia and indonesia).. Clothes, each of these arts are unique and these came from different culture and place within the Philippines all these these are arts being thought in Philippines martial arts.
