I also noticed the canopy developed a crack where you drilled the hole. Here's a tip I learned when drilling plexiglass or acrylic: Use a blow torch to pre-heat your drill bit (don't overdo it, doesn't need to be red hot), put the drill on high speed, but apply bare minimum of pressure. If the hole still develops a crack later on, - drill a tiny hole in the crack's path using the same method, file it smooth, then fill it with acrylic glue or epoxy. This will keep it from spreading.
Just don't use very expensive drill bits, because the heat may destroy the hardening. Of course, expensive drill bits aren't necessary on plexiglass anyway.

Great project! A couple thoughts why vacuum machine might not work properly: 1. Heated sheet must be moved and vacuumed very quickly, like in a second. As soon as sheet touches cold surface it freezes solid almost instantly. Possible solutions: preheat the mold, build a scissors mechanism to move sheet down uniformly and use softer thicker seals. Drop the sheet, valve, shhhh... done! 2. As you already mentioned, vacuum tanks should be several times bigger than the overall mold volume. Using a tank of the same volume as the mold basically means you will get -0.5 bar equalized pressure as soon as you open the valve. 3. Someone also mentioned plastic should be dried at 80 C to evaporate all the moisture out of it to prevent bubbling. Good luck!

I used to work at a hot tub manufacturer. The process for creating the shell was similar. You had to heat the acrylic sheet until it was sagging like your attempt. But the mold had a large vacuum hole at the bottom. Once they had the acrylic positioned they lowerd it over the mold and turned on the vacuum system to pull the acrylic into the mold form. It is a very fast process. In this case due to the shape of your final canopy shell it would make sense to push the canopy mold into the heated acrylic.

Huge need for a wiper once it becomes dark, every water droplet on that screen magnifies and scatters headlights, a 1000 droplets of water means 1000 lights scattered all over the screen. Hasn't anyone here ever ridden in the rain at night ?

A top tip, you need to dry the plastic in oven in 80 degrees celsius for 1 hour. All plastics contain little bit water, otherwise you will have bubbles. I have molded many times and had same problems in the beginning.😊
Yeah plastics will absorb moisture from the air and when forming them if not pre-heated to slowy drive off the moiisture from the plastic it forms steam which makes it so hazy from the tiny bubbles where it is trapped.

I dont know if this is every bikers dream, but it is 100% mine and u are my personal hero, here is why.....I dont know since when i have exactly this idea/dream, plus a lot more varitions of it, 15, maby 20 years, but i never realized it, because 1st of the lagging resorces and 2nd of the missing knowlidge. With an aerodynamic fairing (enclosed) A 2 Wheeler has an absurd amount of potencial, in terms of speed and economie, and i never, really never understood, how the big motorbike industry/manufacturer havent build jet, a aerodynamic designed, enclosed bike, so that u can drive, at an avarage speed of 250 kmh and comsume under 5l on german Autobahn, of course! And im not talking about those heavy ass 2 wheelers from Zwitzerland, which weights a ton and coasts about 100k Euro, plus they have a lean back position, which it makes by default unstable, i mean a simple, lightweight motorbike, build from the scratch, with a leaned forward position and a very low center of gravity, with an ideal aero shape (teardrop/rocket), so that it can glide thoruh the wind, like a bullet. I have an absolute passion for motorbikes and it was allways my dream to ride fast and at the same time economical. Please lets realize together such an project, which could also be electrical, thanks to the low drag. i have so many ideas!
You can't make an enclosed production motorcycle without it being ridiculously heavy for 1 simple reason, crash protection. When a manufacturer makes a vehicle it obviously has to meet certain safety standards, a fully enclosed motorcycle would have to be able to withstand big impacts so it doesn't crush the rider or trap them inside the vehicle, all these reinforcements add a lot of weight and a lot of cost which leaves you with a very expensive and very heavy vehicle. You can reduce the weight by using really lightweight materials but those are significantly more expensive which will drive up the cost even more. I know where I live the government once tried mandating crash bars which also covered the rider's legs, long story short after some crash testing they abandoned the idea because most of the results concluded that permanent leg injuries were significantly more likely since a big a hit would just crush your leg between the crash bar and the bike and probably make you an amputee, not to mention you're now being dragged across the ground by the bike and if it were to catch fire nobody will be able to get you away from the bike which means you'll get burnt alive. Now imagine the nightmare of developing a safe fully enclosed bike and you can see why they're really heavy and really expensive
If you can get this commercialized on a production line you win big time get with a chinese company and you be set ship to the world and get royalties. your skill and mindset are amazing keep up the good work!!
An excellent concept. As long as it is safe and non-obstructive. I would use it only in winter and rainy conditions - I like the wind in my face. Snow and sleet hit the face like pins and needles - this would solve that problem. The only thing, on long trips you would have to decide to take it or not - unless it was made collapsable.
If I were you, I would make a mold that doesn't need nails. Since you spent a significant amount of money on thermoforming, it was possible to make a mold in this final shape. Excellent work
Idea for you: Collapse a sports car horizontally into an enclosed motorcycle. BTW I love how you document your failures in this video. A man should be honest about his mistakes and opens himself up to criticism, comment, and critique, all of which are necessary for growth and improvement. Bravo and well done.
Great work. If you spray a water repellant like RainX and buff it into the plexiglass, this will help the water to just bead off and roll away, making for better visibility. When I use it on my vehicle windshield, the wipers are only needed for the heaviest rainfall.
Genius level manufacturing!!!! This concept is so beautiful that everyone who rides, especially in the rain, would want one. The fact that you kept at it until your idea came to full production, that is determination which gets the reward. Well done!!! Bravo!!!!
no, i ride in all weathers, rain, snow or sun! if i wanted a bike with a roof i would have brought the BMW C1! any "biker" that needs a roof to protect them from rain is no biker! they are fair weather riders only!
I also feel like the roof is gonna fuck you more in a crash than not lmao. You typically want to get off the ride as fast as possible not stuck with it.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllll, the ONE problem that came to my mind is EGRESS MODE. Like if ya have to lay down the bike to save your own life, now you are trapped on said bike with no way of emergency egress for a slide laydown. Beeen in my fair share of them, but, staying Dry or Alive ...........hmmmmmm. I pick ALIVE for sure. Trapped + more injuries, limb losses and LIFE extinguishing. Great Concept, but, the idea with IDEA'S is to come up with a viable option that enhances rider experiences. And one can always pull off in the rain and wait it out. My .02c worth.
@@rickyhaycraft2513 how about making the old tron light cycle bike? you can crash and still be in the bike. some canister can burst porous foam so you can breathe and still be totally cushioned from impact inside. few seconds after the impact the porous foam will become brittle and you can smash through and exit the bike.
@@rickyhaycraft2513 auto ejecting the cockpit might also be practical in such situation for example when the bike slipped and fell and is still slipping across the road while dragging you along, remove your hand from the handlebar which has some kind of sensor that commands the cockpit to automatically eject immediately when the hand is no longer in contact with the handlebar.. This may also allows the biker the freedom to choose and also in control to either abandon the cockpit or keep it as it is depending on the level of crash one is in As some crash may not be severe enough to eject it while losing a few more bucks just to replace it or fix it aside from other body damages like paintjob, scratch and dents. This ejection feature may also include airbag that wrapped around you and absorb most of the damage while pulling you away from the bike
I used to own a full main manufacturer production version of this concept, nearly 1/4 of a century ago. It had a crumple zone, windscreen wipers, seat belt and a full covered safety cell, which kept you almost fully dry. It was the BMW C1. This bike was able to get through traffic like a knife and at the same time keep you safe and dry. It was perfect for commuting through the heaviest of traffic and way ahead of it's time. The trouble was, it was too far ahead of it's time, it made you a laughing stock. The lads at work used to call it the Pope Mobile and you would get howls of laughter from the public you passed as you rode it. One young child even asked me if it could fly ? I couldn't take the ignominy any longer and had to sell it, so it went.
You forgot ABS and a trunk in the back! I had one, 125cc, black. Purchased 4th hand at a fraction of the original price because parents were buying for their 16yr old kids and no one wanted to drive it... it had less then 500 miles and it was 3 year old 😀
Motorcycle manufacturers have experimented with closed cockpit or roofed bikes for decades, the fact most people can't name a single one should say enough abour their success
Not only you can use it on the rain, you can use it in any weather because it also protects you from wind, dust, gravel, etc. When you park your bike, it'll protect your bike surfaces and seat from heat and sunlight exposure. And it looks good as well. I'll definitely order one from you if you make a sale from it. What a genius
when the rain stops and the sun comes out it will be hot as hell inside, also if you're not home before dark and it's still raining, without a windscreen wiper it will be a nightmare for glare due to the water on the front. It's a great little innovation but not finished yet, needs a ton more work to be versatile....
I used to imagine and draw up this exact thing when I was like 8... I look back and think about how I failed to meet my potential because of being poor af and not having the right motivators in life. I love to see these things created finally! Wish I still had the imagination and drive myself.
@@psyMeat Factories could probably find a solution to mitigate them with enough wind tunnel experiments or just computer simulations. The biggest issue is the conservative nature of the average bike buyer, they have a certain idea of what motorbikes and bikers should look like while on the road and more fairing is not on their list.
@psyMeat Crisswinds are an issue even for cars. Not much you can do about getting hit with 20mph+ winds from the side pushing you around other than being a competent and aware driver.
I used a giant industrial oven for my sign making process, heating from above until plastic can be pushed 3" down next to the frame with 3x fingers, and then into the hydraulic press with strong wooden die set type mould, so plastic didn't have to get hot enough to burn you, not too painfully anyway... but my frame was in two halves one on each side of the plastic, made of angle iron and clamped (believe it or not) by vice grips all the way around, about 36 of them.

Man, you have amazing hands 👍
Another amazing project. Turned out fantastic. Love your persistence in working through various problems.
Congratulation my friend, I passed some similar experiments and proyect with a motor's accesories for my duagther's motorcycle and some experiencing some little issues not as big than you have lived with this project. You are my best example for the life, never give up!

Bravo, amazing job!! The rain flies right off, so theres no need for a windshield wiper. I found your video by chance and watched the whole thing. You need your own show.

Its a nightmare, get a car ig you are afraid of get wet
@@ELIZONDJ You can't lean a car into the turns or wheelie etc. Genius.
I'm impressed with your ingenuity and skill. Great job. Looks good too.
ingenuity and quality It is obviously why HBM Machines sponsor you Sir. I wish you the very best for your next project.
People like this are making huge impact in the world
Impact? Where's the vipers on it?
An excellent concept. As long as it is safe and non-obstructive. I would use it only in winter and rainy conditions - I like the wind in my face. Snow and sleet hit the face like pins and needles - this would solve that problem. The only thing, on long trips you would have to decide to take it or not - unless it was made collapsable.
If I were you, I would make a mold that doesn't need nails. Since you spent a significant amount of money on thermoforming, it was possible to make a mold in this final shape. Excellent work
A mold would be perfect. For all the $ spent, some high quality ones, at that.
Salute
not a bikers dream if they wanted a roof over there heads they would buy a car.
@@adamcampbell5977 No. No biker would choose to ride in rain. Speaking from 50 plus years of riding 10’s of thousands miles. IMHO
@@user-roadwander I enjoy it sometimes, not all times, but that's more to do with tyre grip rather than me being wet 🤷♂️
I ride in the rain...I dont want one mr Hype
I also feel like the roof is gonna fuck you more in a crash than not lmao. You typically want to get off the ride as fast as possible not stuck with it.
Full Fairing. This should have happened long ago and much advanced by now due to people like this guy at the helm.
It did happen a long time ago. We call them cars.
This may also allows the biker the freedom to choose and also in control to either abandon the cockpit or keep it as it is depending on the level of crash one is in
As some crash may not be severe enough to eject it while losing a few more bucks just to replace it or fix it aside from other body damages like paintjob, scratch and dents.
This ejection feature may also include airbag that wrapped around you and absorb most of the damage while pulling you away from the bike
Dumbest idea ever, people already thought of this 100 years ago..YOU WANNA BE MANGLED WITH YOUR BIKE, OR THROWN FROM IT??...no brainer
I feel so happy to see people who can transform the world of motorcycles. I have 2 and would like to have those someday.

Nice work. Kinda reminds me of the ol Ecomobile aka Monotracer.
Cool...very good, and even better for cleaning glass from falling rainwater

@@psyMeat Factories could probably find a solution to mitigate them with enough wind tunnel experiments or just computer simulations.
