Imagine representing a party so racist that you can't say that the cause of the Civil War was slavery. Now can you imagine her saying this about any other historical event relating to another group of people? I would love for her to say that the Holocaust wasn't antisemitic but merely a misunderstanding of what it means to be White.

This is the same Nikki Haley that said as a "minority women" she was the right person to defend keeping the confederate flag up. Translation I will be your colored person heat shield against any efforts to remove the confederate flag. It took nine people being slaughtered and tourism industry pressure to get her to change. That says all you need to know about her character.
Can you imagine Nikki Haley going to India and saying the British Raj was not about the subjugation of Indians. She would not even let the thought cross her mind to say something like that.

I still sum up the best evidence into two factors: What did the official governing documents say AND what did the average person think. When you want to stop arguing and know who these people are and know brown just needs to stick together, go read each states declaration of succession, The Confederate Constitution and all this can be read online at the national archives along with THE JOURNALS OF THE AVERAGE AWFUL SOULLESS CLOWNS AND HOW THEY’VE ALWAYS WORKED FOR THE BANKS WITH GLEE. They will talk about how they were too poor to own slaves but the end of that sentence by those journals is that they hoped it was a a part of the American dream as owning a home. Words like “the subjugation” of the “inferior” “negro race”. Indeed the helpless 🦝 of the human race. These goofy mid level managers that keep things immoral and mediocre.

The bizarre part is that it wasn't even about freeing slaves, it was about whether to expand slavery to west to California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, & New Mexico. Initially, Lincoln was going to leave slavery in the South alone as long as it didn't expand to the west. Freeing the slaves in the south was the work of the Radical Republicans, who felt as though America might as well free the slaves since the south rebelled against the government they forfeited their right to the constitutional right to property, and thus the ownership of slaves.

The bottom line is Lucas is right, the civil war really wasn’t about ending slavery per se, but slavery was a part (or at least stated part of it). The fact she did not acknowledge this, or couldn’t even give the mainstream of answer of “it was about slavery” says she is either uneducated or (and more likely) is continuing on in America’s current new footsteps to not acknowledge the existence of slavery in this country in hopes that eventually they can say it was a myth.

*Why Conservatism And Racism Are The Same Thing*
*Conservatism* is a self-conscious ideology that is always dependent on a concrete set of circumstances in a particular period and country. Conservatism is always a reaction to a challenge to an existing order becoming *“conscious and reflective when other ways of life and thought appear on the scene, against which it is compelled to take up arms in an ideological struggle."*
Situationally, conservatism is defined as the ideology arising out of a distinct but recurring type of historical situation in which a fundamental challenge is directed at established institutions and in which the supporters of those institutions employ the conservative ideology in their defense.
Thus, conservatism is the system of ideas employed to justify any established social order, no matter where or when it exists, against any fundamental challenge to its nature or being, no matter from what quarter.
Conservatism is only possible in the United States today *if there's a basic challenge to existing American institutions that impels their defenders to articulate conservative values.*
*Conservatism as an ideology is thus a reaction to a system under challenge, a defense of the status quo in a period of intense ideological and social conflict.*
The mere articulation of a dissident ideology does not produce conservatism until that ideology is embraced by significant social groups.
During the 1950s-60's, the African American civil rights movement presented "a clear and present danger” to the existing order, a self-conscious conservative movement would emerge, with the emerging conservative movement being a racist movemen that is now the modern day Republican party.
