- The US Railroad Rock Island Line or the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. This story is from its peak years in the 1950´s, and it predicts eternal growth and success for the US railroads and in particular for “The Rock”. 10 years later Rock Island saw its last year of profit. From then on it was 15 years of failed plans, mergers and a shrinking empire. And in spite of all the hard work and dedication it was shut down and liquidated in 1980.

Really great. From the sound and look of it, one would think the Rock Island Line should be active today. Oh well, to the whims of history have many great ventures passed. I was amazed at the level of technology in the rail yards back then, impressive. Thanks.
Yes, and "The Rock" really tried to survive, and probably could have with a bit more luck.. and they managed to raise more than $500 million in the liquidation, paying off all the railroad's creditors, bondholders and all other debts, with interest.
Chased the Rock Island in st Paul MN,1950-1980...left a impression in my ❤️🧠
