  • Dearborn Station, Chicago - Images from 1959 - 1961. Dearborn Station in Chicago, Illinois was opened in 1885 and it became the place for arrival and departure of many well-known railroads and famous trains. Santa Fe with the Kansas City Chief and El Capitan, the Eire Lackawanna Railway and the Atlantic Express, the Grand Trunk Western Railroad with the Atlantic Express just to mention a few. It was at a time one of the largest railroad stations in the United States, almost as large as Grand Central Depot in New York.

Always my favorite Chicago station. In and out on the Texas Chief numerous times.

Very interesting footage. I've seen photographs, but not any videos. I'm amazed at how filthy all these buildings were in the late 50's. At 01:47, the building in the background is the back side of the Conrad Hilton Hotel on Michigan Ave. At this time, it was black from smoke, as was the tower at Dearborn Station as well. Thanks for putting this out, commenting to help you get some views.

2:09 facing north from Northwestern Station, not Dearborn.

Thank you for adding detail! The original footage was labeled Dearborn, but as you correctly point out there are scenes form other Chicago stations.
