    I watch "Conta-me como foi" on RTP website in Portuguese. It's hit and miss with subtitles with a more or less 50/50 chance per episode of having Pt subtitles.
    I recommend the show for advanced students where no subs and intermediate (or anyone willing to give it a bash) with subs.
    The current season (which you can start straight into) is set in the mid 80s, which is when I was a child and, as the British son of a Portuguese, going back and forth to Lisbon a lot so it brings back a lot memories. The neighbourhood, cafes and even interior decor of the flat are all quite nostalgic for me.

    I am a naturalized Portuguese but I have to be honest about Portuguese television and Portuguese films. I personally can't stand most of the programs on TV and the only Portuguese movie I have ever seen was A Gaiola Dourada, which was not even made in Portugal and had as many French actors as Portuguese. To begin with, a Portuguese film popular outside of the country is a rare event and a Portuguese TV series is even rarer. Manoel de Oliveira, who died in 2015, apparently directed more than 50 films. I have never seen one of them and probably won't in the future. But then, I am not alone as the vast majority of Portuguese have also never seen one of his films. I don't know why but a Portuguese TV series or film has never made it outside the country's borders. You just can't imagine a series like Casa de Papel or Vis a Vis being made here.

      1) que
      2) quê
      3) qué (que+é)
      You are good to go :):):):):)
      [Usually the "e" sound it's the one people say we eat, (including Brazilians) they think the sound belongs to the previous consonant and because we speak fast it doesn't help also, but it's actually a closed vowel - I'm not a teacher but I think you will understand sooner or later]

    • @Carmensgarcia
      @Carmensgarcia 4 роки тому

      Hi Paolo "e" is the equivalent to "and", so it is used when you want to add another object, person etc to the sentence, example "Eu e tu." = "Me and you."
      "É" comes from the verb "ser" = "to be" in the 3r person, therefore in English it's the equivalent to "is" example "Ela é tua amiga" = "she is your friend".
      Hope it helps.

      "e" and "é"
      Yes it's like what Carmen is saying
      The "E" sounding like a "I" only happens when the "E" is isolated. I think it's the equivalence of the Spanish "Y"

    I see you stole the trick the Portuguese use to learn English. 😂
    When I first came to Portugal, I was impressed by the great English many Portuguese speak. As I settled in and started to consume content, I realized that foreign TV shows and movies (mostly in English) were not dubbed, only subtitled. That's when it hit me that the Portuguese, who love themselves some soap operas, are constantly exposed to English through TV, and that they always have the subtitles on so they understand even words and phrases they don't actually understand. Basically, they are learning English all the time without intending to.
