    I saw this movie in a small town movie theater where the theater it was playing in was located right next to the bathrooms, so every time the hand dryer went on, it's all you could hear in the theater. Long story short: If you're going to see this movie, go to see it in a decent theater where sound contamination will not be a problem.

    I knew what this movie was going for with sound design and the building silence in the film. I saw it tonight, but my theater had people constantly on their phones and there was constant talking, ruining this movie. I just cannot stand the movie theater. People just suck and do not care about ruining such a great movie.

      agreed I from the moment the first tragedy struck I watched the movie literally wanting it to end as soon as possible without any further tragedy. Terrifying, Sad and Brutal The Quiet Place also has a lot of emotional depth and strong human connect. Very well made movie. Its very emphatic and it so true to its theme.

    For a movie called "A Quiet Place" where you couldn't make a sound, my theater cranked the volume up to a 1000. Whenever the monsters would appear and scream, our ears were practically bleeding.

    Saw this in the theater and so glad that I did.
    Spoiler-ish
    It’s basically the final episode of Alien when they finally make it to Earth. This was the most intense movie experience I’ve had since seeing Whiplash. This was better than Get Out. It’s really more sci fi, even though it’s being sold as horror. Sure there’s plot issues, like how could humanity not have figured a more effective defense to these creatures. But for the world that’s been built, this is as good of a story as you could put to film. 10/10. One of the best of the decade.

    Did a double feature tonight with this and Isle of Dogs. My audience sucked for a quiet place. Half a theater full of just teenagers on their phones. I hate seeing horror movies in theaters because of that. I'd like to see the movie again in the morning in a week or two. I had issues with suspending my disbelief at a few things, but otherwise an exceptionally directed and emotional horror movie.

    I completely loved the movie. I agree it's a great film. However, it does remind me a lot of the movie Signs. The girl with the hearing aid reminds me a lot of the scene where they have to swing in signs. Yes there are obvious differences but there are some parallels as well.

    i wonder if John Krasinski likes either Home Alone or Jurassic Park.
    this movie somehow sustains the stress/tension that i personally experienced during the Homerton scene from Annihilation for almost the entire length of its runtime.

    I wan't to preface this by saying I loved the movie, but I NEVER wanna hear another godamned critic say a single goddamned thing about fucking jump scares as if they're bad ever again. Half this movie is jump scares. EVERY, SINGLE, HIGHLY reviewed horror movie of the last 20 years has jump scares. The Conjuring and it's sequel had jump scares. It had jump scares. Jump scares never have been, and never will be the fucking problem. When it's a well made film no one gives a good god damn how many jump scares it has so why bother bringing it up when the film is awful? It's nonsense.

      sinosleep007 couldn't agree more

    • @TheMisfitPond
      @TheMisfitPond 6 років тому +1

      It’s not about the jumps scare.. it’s about whether or not film has over reliance of them for its scares or if they’re even executed properly

    • @sinosleep007
      @sinosleep007 6 років тому +1

      But they never actually state that though. I've seen it so many times I've lost count, they just mention jump scares as if they are the problem in and of themselves when that is not the case. Jump scares aren't the problem. Either the film is goo enough for them to matter or not. If that is the only distinguishing feature than they aren't the problem.

  • @SuperboyCK
    @SuperboyCK 6 років тому +8

    It's a solid B-Horror flick with a nice gimmick executed well. The direction on a scene-by-scene basis is strong, and the tension is great throughout. However, the characters are fairly thin and a bit cliché (possibly a byproduct of their inability to talk), and the logic of the movie doesn't hold up to much scrutiny. Also, a few unnecessary jump scares dampen the more legitimate thrills. 7.5/10

    • @mcwyman7928
      @mcwyman7928 6 років тому +1

      The Citizens
      Who's running the electricity?
      Why doesn't the Dad ever let the daughter go into the basement?
      Why doesn't the Dad let the daughter come fishing with him?
      Do the aliens have no sense of smell?
      Why the hell would they risk having a baby with a rampant alien invasion going on?
      How is all that corn being replanted?
      Those are just a few of the things that made no sense to me while watching it.

    • @pattypcollins
      @pattypcollins 6 років тому +1

      MC Wyman I thought why didn't they live closer to the waterfall or at least plan to have the baby near it.
      Why couldn't they use horns to lure the creatures away, way more practical than fireworks.
      The weakness in the end was so obvious and they could be killed with one shotgun blast and yet these things managed to wipe out most of the world?

    • @7PlayingWithFire7
      @7PlayingWithFire7 6 років тому +5

      MC Wyman literally none of those are plotholes lmao.. Learn what a plothole is. "Who runs electricity?" Isn't a fucking plot, you bonobo. Also they said they cut out scenes like that as they felt it wasn't adding enough.
      The floorboards creak and the daughter is deaf, the father doesn't trust her to not make noise in a workshop as she isn't aware if she makes a noise, same reason he doesn't take her fishing, he can't teach her the sound things and subconsciously still blames her daughter and that's why their relationship is strained. Possibly also tiny "sexist" attitude, like wanting the next man in the house be ready for it, so many reasons.
      The aliens can't see, why would they smell? You're just nitpicking.
      Risk having a child is such a pointless argument. Say that to teenage moms, say that to people in wartorn countries, tell that to the cavemen, to ancient baby sacrificing societies, tell that to people who are emotionally unstable and compensate it with a kid, tell that to alcoholics having kids, to addicts, and most importantly tell that to nature to stop working like that. Literally no protection has ever in human history been 100% safe (mutilations don't count), condoms are 97% and are considered the best, and you try to find a doctor who can perform a safe abortion in the apocalypse without risking death.
      How did humans plant corn before machines? Still not a plothole but questioning details in world building, not plot. Plot is story, events that happen. A plot hole is when something could not have happened story wise due to contradictory story elements (see Looper).
      Still all you did was nitpick, most likely acting smart or being a hipster, the most common way so many people are stupid nowadays for acting like they know better than everyone else (cough religious people about science cough flat earthers etc).

    Had some inconsistencies of logic of course but it was good where it really counted in my opinion. Performances were all great, family dynamic was simple but powerful, and of course it was a breath of fresh air to experience such a quiet film in a world or relentlessly loud blockbusters

      Stephen Judy two very different films, but I understand where you're coming from. Get Out was a social commentary and a dark satire or race relations. This is just a kick ass creature feature with great tension and storytelling. I'd say it's better that M. Night's Signs.

      SUN WARRIOR if I had to honestly compare it to any two movies it would be Signs and Alien. This movie was so damn tense and didn’t let up the whole movie. But Get Out was the last great horror movie of recent memory and I was surprised anything could top it so soon but this movie did it. But good catch with Signs because I didn’t think about that until after the movie

    • @EzeICE

    Lol Yes! Turn the phones off!! Also, no talking and no eating of loud, crunchy food during the actual movie. Why don't people understand this concept?!?
    I have to say, what worries me about this movie (without having seen it) is that the entire premise of the movie seems rather hopeless. Which is to say, I have a difficult time believing that anyone could survive very long - or that the human race could survive at all - if they needed to be completely quiet at all times. To me, and again I haven't seen the movie, it seems like knowing this going into the movie would make it difficult to believe that the characters could somehow make it very long or find a way to live peacefully. Still, horror movies aren't always meant to have happy endings, so I'm open to whatever is in store.

      The plot is ever progressing, and the intensity of the film never declines. They use the premise in clever ways, which keeps the film from becoming predictable. This part of my comment will get into SPOILERS,
      When she has the baby, it's really interesting to find out how you would live in a world with a baby, whom has no idea, and could burst out crying at any moment. Or the river and waterfall scenes, where if something around you is louder, then you can make noise. Also, the daughter character (I'm bad with names) how she is deaf in a world where she has to be quiet. It's hard to gage how much noise you are making if you can't hear. All these clever script moments are what builds such an interesting world and makes it better than the average horror/thiller flick. Also, the fact that they are not afraid to kill off characters. Rather than the usual, "We'll kill of the characters who get the least screen time, and leave the main character to survive at the end"
      I just found myself always being surprised with that the film can do. Whereas with Get Out, i felt the beats in that film were too predictable. The plot basically folding out how i thought it would. And it didn't really kick into gear for me until the last 20 minutes. (Love Jordan Peele though.)

    I saw this movie at the same showing with Christy and Matt, and I didn't think it was very good at all. I clearly copies scenes from Alien and Jurassic park without really improving upon them. It also uses a whiteboard and newspaper collage for exposition in way that feels like the filmmaker didn't respect the audience--this rendered the lack of dialog a gimmick since the movie didn't tell its story visually, it showed it on written in thick black ink on a whiteboard. Also the movie has multiple fake out jump scares where the volume is cranked to 11 to in a distorted and ear pain inducing way. 6/10 for me.

      The characters didn't develop. If you connected with them, that's cool, but I found them to be flat and boring. It seems to me that the point of the movie was to deliver a tense horror film about a family. I think it succeed a that for the most part, but the whiteboard/newspaper exposition and been there, done that scenes of being hunted prevented me for becoming immersed.

    • @noshow
      @noshow 6 років тому

      Did I say I wanted more exposition? If you read my comment, you'd see that I complained that the movie used cheap tactics for this, with a whiteboard and newspaper headlines. That is lazy film-making! This is a lazy film, and that is my biggest complaint, that it robs it own sense of mystery by writing "ITS SOUND" on a newspaper headline. I wanted more visual story telling and mystery, not flashbacks... And yes I did find the family boring, except the mother. So what if I am in the minority, its like my opinion, man. Don't be threatened by people who disagree with you.

      @Jump Crouch -- I think the characters are meant to be more archetypes than layered, complex individuals. For me, that worked in this type of film. It is easier to put yourself in their shoes and imagine yourself in that scenario. It wasn't about their individual characters, but about the universal instinct for survival and for protecting your children. It's legitimate if that's not your thing, but I felt it was a deliberate choice by the filmmakers, rather than laziness. -- Jessica from Drawing Conclusions, the marriage of movies and art

      1. They chose to conceive a child AFTER the sound-hunting alien apocalypse, knowing full well that the screaming newborn/infant would certainly be killed and/or get them and their children killed
      2. In the 9 months they had to prepare, the only “soundproofing” they came up with to raise their screaming baby was a fucking regular basement covered by a mattress.
      3. Knowing his wife was 9 months pregnant and ready to pop at literally any minute, the protagonist decides to go on an absolutely meaningless memory-building sight-seeing riverside daycation with his son.
      4. Knowing her dad and brother are gone and her 9 months pregnant, ready-to-pop mother was alone at home and totally defenseless, the daughter decides to make a completely unannounced daycation to a bridge to go cry over her dead brother for like 8 hours.
      5. Neither the parents nor the children carry ANY guns on their person at any time to defend themselves from the giant, ferocious, starving man-eating aliens.
      6. Even after clearly ripping open a bag on a GIANT NAIL sticking up out of the floorboard, and impaling her foot on it, the wife does nothing at all to clip or bend the nail over with pliers and prevent anyone else from also impaling their foot on said nail.

      acrophobe
      1. It was never said that they purposefully had a kid, it might have been an accident. 2. The basement wasn't the only thing to stop the baby, they also had an oxygen tank and put it in a box to suppress the noise.
      3. The dad didn't know she would have the kid that early, in the movie you can see that they scheduled for when the baby was going to be born, but it came before schedule. Also the trip was to show the son how to hunt fish, it wasn't pointless.
      4. The daughter was the most stupid out of all the characters, besides she's a moody teen, and she wasn't gone for 8 hours.
      5. Guns attract even more of them so it would be very stupid to shoot one as we saw at the end. The best thing would be a melee weapon, and btw they don't eat people as shown in the movie.
      6. You're right about the nail but at the same time a lot was going on so of course she forgot about it

    • @acrophobe

      1. Unless you live in Mississippi, you can't possibly not know that blasting your baby batter into your ovulating wife of child-bearing age won't get her pregnant. Any responsible adults in this scenario would take extreme care to abstain from sex to save their lives or to use two or three kinds of protection, and if they did get pregnant, they would exhaust every method to abort the fetus ASAP to save themselves from their certain lingering doom.
      2. The oxygen tank would only help after the baby started screaming, and it was already established multiple times that literally any loud sound whatsoever draws the monsters in and is a guaranteed death sentence. That house should have been covered with laughably thick layers of blankets or insulation glued to every inch of the walls, floors and ceiling, or multiple other kinds of makeshift soundproofing. Also, they straight up left the doors open like all the time.
      3. Again, unless you live in Mississippi, you know that you can't possibly guarantee a due date with any amount of certainty and premature births are very common. Also, the idiot dad could have easily taught his son all those lessons in sign language or in writing or diagrams.
      4. I disagree, I think the dead son was the stupidest, because, holy shit, that stupid fucking kid was just gleefully playing with that fucking rocket and didn't even look up once to see his dad running towards him or the ferocious murderous alien sprinting toward him, he just didn't give a FUCK. I was secretly kind of pleased he died. Don't tell my mom I said that.
      5. True, but they had apparently done enough recon to know that only 3 were in the area, and if my life or my family's lives were on the line, I would fucking blast the murderous alien in the face with a .44 magnum and take my chances with the ones that came later....and I would still have my big fuckin' gun and plenty of ammo to face-blast them with.
      6. It was even more annoying that after she stepped on the nail, the film went out of its way 2 or 3 more times to linger on the bloody nail, but it never came into play again after that. I was sure the alien at the end would step on it and give her a window to escape or kill it or something, but it never happened. Either lazy filmmaking or a deleted scene. Annoying either way.

    • @darthtyrex
      @darthtyrex 6 років тому +2

      acrophobe
      1. The apocalypse can get really boring so of course they'll have sex to have fun every once in a while, besides you wouldn't want to get blue balls. And they might have used a condom that broke or he could've tried pulling out but failed. With the abortion you are correct but maybe they didn't have a way to kill it or maybe they're pro life and couldn't bring themselves to do such a thing
      2. Once again the oxygen mask wasn't the only thing that made the baby more silent, it was in a box underground which is quiet enough. The door was left open because opening it and closing it constantly would cause to much noise
      3. You are right on the premature birth thing but just because she was pregnant doesn't mean they can't stop going out, they have to so the son can learn. It's much more effective to show a first hand experience then a diagram
      4. That kid was pretty retarded but you can't really blame him he was like three years old, and I don't mean to be nit picky or anything but "stupidest" isn't a word
      5. At the end you clearly see there was far more then three monsters so even if you had a .44 magnum they'd probably just gang up on you and rip you to shreds
      6. The nail stayed there on purpose to make the audience feel more tense and scared to see if anyone else would step on it, after the movie ended she probably fixed the nail if she survived. As for the "lazy filmmaking" it's not really lazy it just so happened to be no one else stepped on the nail

    The premise is fantastic and the movie is great..... but then you see the creatures and they are horrible (CGI IS NOT SCARY) and then I started picking out huge plot holes. I wasn’t invested in the baby stuff because all I could ask was WHY WOULD YOU NOT HAVE SAFE SEX during this type of apocalypse. Don’t have a kid, that was obvious. A less annoying one was if you have power for your farm that electricity is coming from a generator or plant from somewhere that makes noise. A huge disappointment but still fun time at a Cinema.

What is the purpose for the story to advance 400 days, why would she get pregnant in this world, why does the daughter think her dad hates her, there is no scene showing this, all he does is provide for her and the family and makes her hearing aids. The scene on the silo before they fall is idiotic. They start a fire, it dies, they stand there for a minute or two and the daughter is like, lets go he isnt coming for us lol wtf. Also why would the kid run threw the corn field it makes so much noise, you cant out run these things. When theyre in the truck and its rolling why isnt the monster attacking it, it already killed the father and the truck is making a shit ton of noise. How does the monster in the basement not hear the baby whimpering, how does it not hear the wife breathing, why are there so many shitty jump scares, why does the movie copy the exact score of sicario, why is the girl sleeping out in the open when monsters are just roaming around, why do they eat up stairs when they have a sound proof basement, why do you have your kids walk behind you, how can the monster tear through the silo but cant tear through the roof of the car, why isnt she allowed in the basement, how hasnt the government killed this things yet,
