thanks for the vids! I used to have the whole '96 competition, from compulsaries to individual, I don't know what I did with the tapes but I miss seeing this.
I am glad Romania stuck with it even though they came into the olympics two gymnasts down. They showed a lot of bravery and I respected them for that. They talk about Romania coming in second to the Soviet team. I always felt like getting the bronze was the push they needed to get the gold in 2000 and 2004.
romania & usa switched places in 95-96. remember 95 after us trials, people were talking about a team usa with miller, dawes, moceanu, strug & chow good enough to win a first world title and almost everyone they needed went down w/big injuries (dawes, chow, phelps, miller). then in 96 romania lost the ones they needed for depth (cacovean, bican, maranduca). no sympathy either way but woulda been interesting had both teams been healthy both years.
BRING BACK COMPULSORIES!!! I think it would change the game if we had them.
