It's great that Huawei is being called out. So many ignorent tech enthusiasts who only care about phone technology rather than the number one important factor of technology: security.
9:29 - Zambia admits it, Huawei denies it.
This reporter is an absolute idiot.
All telecomunication companies and their equipments can do it.
Don't forget it's the governments of each nation order spying by forcing or pressuring or paid them to do it.
"China has developed a sophisticated counter-espionage system enabling it to deal big blows to US spying efforts on the mainland, according to observers. The comments came after The New York Times reported on Sunday that Beijing dismantled CIA spying networks in China, with at least a dozen US sources in the country detained or killed from late 2010 to the end of 2012."
@@loktom4068 No. Most telecommunications companies do not setup spy cameras and spy software. Perhaps you live in a dystopia where that is the norm but here it is not.
Dozens of US spies killed after Iran and China uncovered CIA messaging service using Google
Between 2009 and 2013 the US Central Intelligence Agency suffered a “catastrophic” secret communications failure in a website used by officers and their field agents around the world to speak to each other, according to a report in Yahoo News, which heard from 11 former intelligence and government officials about the previously unreported disaster. By 2011, Iran had infiltrated the CIA spy network and in May it announced that they had broken up a 30-strong ring of American spies. Meanwhile in China 30 agents working for the US were executed by the government after compromising the spy network using a similar means. Beijing had managed to break into a second temporary communications system, splintered from the initial platform and were able to see every single agent the CIA had placed in the country, the sources told Yahoo.A CIA agent in Russia who was warned about the attacks were able to change communication channels before anyone was uncovered.
China may be spying, but it learned from the best -- the USThis reality needs to be taken into account when considering the U.S.-China relationship and the friction between the countries. As China comes under mounting pressure from the U.S. it may snap but claim that it is merely copying spying techniques developed by the U.S.China's alleged espionage would not be the first time the U.S. has been burned by its own technology.
“The United States has become the showcase of how democracy can be managed without appearing to be suppressed. The oppressed are allowed one day every four years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and oppress them." Karl Marx.
China, no matter how you slice it-constitutionally, electively, popularly, procedurally, operationally, performatively, financially-even theocratically-is democratic.
Lovely investigative reporting by WSJ. This is the only way Africa can achieve freedom. Too many bad politicians!
Bad Politicians are in America too
Lol. You don't wanna compare, trust me... There are people in Africa who go to bed hungry, have no access to basic education, die like animals because of incompetent leadership... No you don't wanna compare!
@@Marine_0317 Who cares? This video is about Uganda and possibly the rest of Africa. No one said anything about US politicians.
Ni hao! Well there has never been a noteworthy leader apart from the late Nelson Mandela, but a few good ones are Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana. I'm Nigerian by the way, but we also have leadership issues here in Nigeria, but people are more socially and economically elevated compared to Uganda and other poor African countries.
freedom and then what? war and poverty?
US/EU's fault for not investing more on telecom infrastructure in Africa, China simply had more to offer to Africans. Free market economy, for the better or worse.
Better HR treatment than Baltimore.
Actually London has highest density of Surveillance camera in the world, worst than USA.
It's all in how the cameras are used. If they're used to solve and deter crime, I'm all for 'em. If they're used to stifle opposition and dissent, I have different opinions.

not to the extent of china. You can argue that the US started by china has pretty much made it an art form
Where are your Uyghurs China?
The obvious difference is that the Chinese Communist Party uses it’s culture of surveillance to imprison dissidents.

Next you should so a similar hit piece on how US companies are stifling growth in Uganda,
A lot of hate in this *comment section* 😂
Fear, jealousy, ignorance => highway to hate.
Always blows my mind when they show hands. Finger prints and other markers can be gotten from just the image.
I still haven't seen direct evidence to accuse Huawei.
rewatch the video lol
So basically what Huawei did is not any different from what NSA been doing through Facebook, Google, etc?
I’m confused about 2 things! What app is being used that’s tricking them to download it and get monitored? Why not use a different company like Samsung , LG, HTC, BLU, ONE PLUS and etc?
Cause not everyone can afford companies like the ones you just mentioned. " LG, HTC, BLU, ONE PLUS and etc"
Who is in charge here? people or technology?
Tech

WAKE UP.......JESUS IS COMING BACK VERY VERY SOON 💯
The way i see it, i see China employing/testing NSA-like infrastructure on other countries, not only to allow those in power to spy on opposition but for the monitoring entities to have the capability to do so if/when the need rises. I also see these monitoring implementations as trials run on smaller scale to then observe possible, social and technological results at a bigger scale country.
Think about this:
Do you guys use proprietary programs at your jobs for logging in your hours, handle accounting, and other business functions? Most companies continue using those programs for years! Why?
Because it becomes very expensive to switch to other programs. You have to transfer a lot of data from 1 program to other, hire engineers, and validate there are no errors with those data.
The more/deeper an entity uses/relies on 1 technology, the more difficult/expensive it will be to switch or even get rid of.
every country keeps an eye on their people to a degree. China is doing it to keep opposition out of power were as USA does it to keep people safe.

If the dam village barely has electricity yet there's an advanced surveillance system in place, then you have far worse problem than Huawei
In a Caribbean country, I watched fiber optic cable being laid parallel to the open sewage ditch. Priorities, it seems....
CIA: Hey German government, we would like to supply you with the latest SpyPhone 11 for free.
My computer was hacked before. It feels very bad. But I can use electricity and internet. Those people who live in that village, they see that the electricity and other technologies are just beside them. But those technologies are not used by them, they are used against them. How sad it is. It's like living in a trauma every day.
This video should be categorised as comedy instead of news&education.
What does NSA do in the US? JUst asking
@CJ Giordano I feel sorry for you if you really believe your government cares about you. God bless your ignorant soul. Americans like you are brainwashed just like the average North Korean. At least the Chinese know they are being lied to, wheres American actually believe their own government lies.

You mean like America's oh please
So what is different with what the US does?
The difference is that the US isn’t a foreign country. This is espionage by the Chinaman.
Kevin Arzola So, different actors, same play?
Alex Sikar no, one is espionage by the chinaman. They attempted to infiltrate federal buildings and failed.
Time for the slants eyed to go back to the drawing board.
I live in the states and have a Huawei phone. I bought it on Amazon in March, right before everything went down. I'm still using it, what's the Chinese gov't going to do? I'm an American, not Chinese. Should I get a new one though?
I mean the Chinese government could access your passwords via builtin apps, I highly recommend switching unless you know what you're doing.
The devil is on his way to create unrest, in any nation.
Why you guys hate Huawei so much?
US is worry they can not spy on Huawei's new system with advance technology.

Wow this again! All our media companies do it too, our tv's phones cameras are all spying on us.
i'm using a huawei laptop. how do i get rid of spyware?
Tbh I don't care if they spy on me lol I love the phone
Not that different than what the NSA is doing not only in the US but in Europe as well. Don't forget what Edward Snowden had to do so he wouldn't be stuck in prison for life for reveling the scale of the wire tapping. But since its the US its okay right?
It's very important to follow up this video by saying that these are all allegations from the opposing side. There's no investigation, substantial evidence nor due process to confirm any of the allegations against Huawei.
And as my own personal opinion, I believe this to be propaganda that's just focusing on one side of the story, in Uganda and other places.
Even if Huawei did provide tools and support for surveillance, it's provided to the legitimate (until proven otherwise) government. On the other hand, no one is scrutinizing social media for providing the tools and ecosystem to help spread and grow messages from the opposition. How come that's legit and what the government is doing is not.
Furthermore, the UK (at the peak of democracy) has the largest surveillance system in the world. These are double standards where one thing done by a western country is ok, but when China or Russia or someone else does it, it's crime.

What about Google and Apple?

Good video, but where do you drawn the line? Obviously this is unacceptable, but how about the NSA providing back doors through random number generators or recording all landline and most cellular communications, Microsoft providing facial recognition software to shady actors (Look at who gave Huawei their expertise, Microsoft used to work very closely with them), or Amazon networking ring doorbell cameras to local police stations, or Facebook using your location and AI to predict where everyone who uses their services will go next? This is what "They" have in store for us.
This is why in Europe there are many countries taking a stand against China's dystopia Social Credit System that they're trying their hardest to become the norm. Then 1984 becomes reality like it already is right now in China.
Huewai was at least honest in their promise to catch the criminals before they commit the crimes.. You can see it two ways, but it's still called arresting innocent people..
It's not Huawei's fault, they just tried to take care of their customers , it's the orders of their customers, shouldn't blame Huawei
is that why they got caught doing it a few years ago.....
NO SURPRISE!
Listen it is simple: nobody is being forced to use or buy their product. .If you as a customer choose to use a product where you as a consumer do not understand the technology associated with it, you always run the risk of ending up as a victim.
