Just received the San Martin I bought it immediately after watching your vid. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos it I am very happy with the watch
I sure miss new content coming out from your channel. I pre-ordered the San Martin SN0111-G-A. This is the black dial, sword hands, 300 meters and the new on-the-fly adjustable clasp. I am anxiously awaiting it’s arrival. I have been looking since your review of the SN006. Hope all is going well for you! Thank you for the content👍🏻
I recently purchased the same watch. I own several San Martin watches, but this model is my favorite of the collection. It's simply gorgeous. The case size and sword hands really set this apart in my view. And, I agree - I really miss the content of this site. I would have loved to have seen a review of this watch. This gentleman was the top online evaluator of timepieces, in my opinion.
Lovely watches and quality workmanship on your videos as usual John! It’s always refreshing to hear from another collector like yourself that watches should be enjoyed at any level of collecting and there’s no room for snobbery! All the best!
Lovely video and even more lovely watches! One has to take a step back and think about it to appreciate the diversity this represents, a Rolex DJ41 besides a San Martin 006. Some people should take this to hard and realise, one can wear whatever one wants! Don’t let anyone judge you, in any way. Needles to say , they 006 Milsub is a great piece and the DJ41, well nothing to add. In regards to the PT5000, with apparently more brands moving away from the PT5000, I’d think the Miyota 9000 series represent a suitable replacement in the affordable market. Thanks for the update!
"In regards to the PT5000, with apparently more brands moving away from the PT5000, I’d think the Miyota 9000 series represent a suitable replacement in the affordable market." Agreed Kurt. Collectors are becoming more aware of reliability issues with the PT5000 and don't trust it. This has caused a decline in sales of PT5000 powered pieces. The NH35A dominates the low-tier, as its reliability, and modding possibilities appeal to collectors. When there was a Covid outbreak at the Seiko Malaysia plant; thus shortage of NH35A's in China; it drove brands like San Martin, and Pagani Design to use alternatives. San Martin opted for the YN55A, Pagani Design opted for the 8215. The YN55A then grew in popularity when collectors realised it was the same as the Orient F6922 used in the Kamasu etc. So now the YN55A is also preferred to the PT5000, due to the lower cost and reliability. I really like the 9015 and 9038 as you know, but the majority of the market prefers the NH35A to Miyota movements; despite the 9000 series being premium, and better quality than the 8000 series such as the 8215. The majority of the market prefer the NH35A to the 8215, and even 9015. Part of the reason is the plethora of Seiko modding parts for the NH35A available, versus fewer for the 8215 and 9015. I would like to see the NH38 used more in no-date pieces versus the NH35A; to delete the phantom date setting position. However most collectors don't mind the NH35A in no-date watches. Regards, #WR4K
I just ordered the San Martin based on your review. I love the Rolex but don’t have a champagne budget 😅 Thanks for the many very detailed watch reviews.
Recently John said six watches is the ultimate watch collection. Now he's down to two. It will just be a matter of a month or two before six or eight watches is now the ultimate watch collection again. LOL. I have never seen people change their mind as fast as watchcollectors. LOL
@@rosstisbury1626 I hate having a bunch of watches in my drawer and only wearing one or two or three at a time. I'm a Frugal person so I always feel like such a waste. LOL
I'm there too. But After watching other watch channels, I thought 52 would be good as a collection. Some are family classics that I'd never sell, but only certain ones get wrist time, and the classics never do, unfortunately. Most newer acquisitions see most, but even then I get bored with them eventually. I think about snoozing with my Rolex Submariner, I saw someone at work with a Yachtmaster and I'm thinking of selling/ trading plus $$ but is it really worth it? I'll just keep beating up my Tissot Le loche and Cartier Ballon Blue automatics. I just prefer dress watches. But I still love my San Martin "Tiffany blue" explorer look-a-like. And even my Pagani Design GMT.. but I feel the cheapness after having a Swiss watch on the wrist. Good to know even a watch reviewer can limit the amount of watches in the collection.
A very interesting and open review. I believe you are right too be proud of your input into this San Martin creation. Do you think Rolex listens or cares about input from UA-cam channel reviewers? My collection is a mix of established brands and Chinese homages. You gave a balanced view of these watches. You wanted both, you got both. I have owned expensive watches such as a Rolex Submariner when they were still value for money. I sold it at a large profit because I found it too heavy on wrist. I believe your point about the price you are willing to pay for a Rolex is valid for you. You wanted it so you bought it. I love watches of all stripes and know there will be good and bad in all brands. Quality control is so important these days. Well done.
"Do you think Rolex listens or cares about input from UA-cam channel reviewers?" Yes John, Rolex is the best watch brand in the world at marketing. Therefore they would watch UA-cam, as its the second largest digital marketing platform after Instagram. Rolex is the most searched for watch brand on UA-cam. Rolex content on UA-cam is useful feedback which can be used for deciding new releases, changes to existing models, and identifying what the market wants. Regards, #WR4K
You are absolutely right about the PT5000.... I own 3 watches with this movement, and all but one have been supreme disappointments. The YN55 and NH35 watches I own are almost bulletproof. I own a 36mm Rolex Datejust that I purchased new in 1994, it being the only watch I wore (daily) for over 28 years, through thick and thin, scuba diving, intense manual labor, you name it. Despite the fact it has only been serviced once (at about 5 years old), it still keeps time to within 4-5 seconds per day. It is virtually indestructible. I love my San Martin watches (again, with the NH35 or YN55 movements), and certainly don't expect them to hold up to Rolex standards. SM is, in my opinion,, the absolute best bang for your buck....but stay away from the PT5000!

Thanks for the great state of the collection vid I very much enjoy them... So if the sn006 had a gloss dial and a printed logo It would have been an instant trigger pull for me but the sn004 with gloss dial has just set the bar high now and I hope they will introduce a blue gloss dial into the sn006 case and then I will own one in black and one in blue... Gorgeous Rolex enjoy!
I wish they would do the SN006 in black with applied indices and a printed logo. That would be perfect for me, and I would buy it despite owning the SN004. The SN004 is almost perfect, but for me it feels just fractional too small. As I understand it the SN006 case is 40mm with a slightly longer lug to lug. I understand why you went for the blue one as it has almost all these characteristics, but blue isn't my personal taste...and the black has printed indices and in vintage colour scheme.
And they could also add a lumed bezel if they wanted to make it perfect. Food for thought for them, I am sure if they did all these things they would sell a tun.

Question: if you had to buy the same watch one made from San Martin and one made from Pagani which one would you go for? Is san Martin a better quality? Thank you for your videos I like your channel so much!!
I had multiple San Martin's and Paganis. Both have their place in the Market. But I almost never wear my Paganis and actually sometimes just gift them to friends once I get bored with them. Pagani is great for finding the style (like size, bracelet, color, and type) you like. Once you found it, you can move on to San Martin. San Martin overall is just way better in quality from manufacturing, to lume, to movement. But all of this doesn't make you happy if the watch style just doesn't fit. Once you find the right watch, it feels like getting the right wand in Harry Potter. You start to fall in love with the watch (even if sometimes others think it's ugly 😂, but that doesn't matter). Purely listen to your self and how you feel with the watch. Sometimes it takes weeks, months, or even years to find out if it is the right watch.
