The Great Mosque of Granada represents the restoration of a lost connection and signifies the continuity, after a 500-year hiatus, of a fruitful and enriching tradition in all spheres of human endeavor. It is the heart of the Muslim community and a symbol of the vitality of the prophetic message of Islam and its relevance in Europe and the West.

I visited this mosque and Granada in 2015. The mosque was open but quiet. I prayed and was overwhelmed with experiencing salah and talking to Allah in one of the greatest Islam civilization ever created in history. So pleased to see such an active Muslim community thriving in Granada. Masha Allah Tabarakallah... May Allah blesses us with health and prosperity, and we're always graced with imaan and Islam aamiin ya Rabbal Alaamiin

We have not seen those golden days but when we close our eyes, those beautiful sparkling images appear in our eyes. Then I feel a pain in my chest, I feel like I have lost something. We (family) were planning this summer to go to Granada and visit Alhamra and the Mosque and pray one Jumua after our trip to Morocco but we ran out of time during the month of August.
My wife and kids flew few days before the earthquake and my flight was planned one day after the earthquake but I was in Casablanca during the earthquake, 300km north of the epicentre.

I thank Allah, the Merciful, for giving me a life long enough to see a Muslem performing salah in Grenada. Subhanallah!
Gharnata - Grenada, called Gharnata in Dari & Pashto, and almost all languages spoken by Muslem in MENA, Central Asia, SEA, one of the first international names that I had heard and learnt when I was a child. At home - in Kabul - my maternal grandmother had a framed picture hanging on wall. The picture was showing the Islamic philosopher Allama Muhammad Eqbal, while performing salah in a mosque in Gharnata (Grenada).
In response to our un-ending questions about the importance of the picture, our grandma told us stories about Andalusia - with eyes gradually getting filled with tears and bringing tears to our eyes - a large group of her grandchildren.
While performing hajj my grandma had sought and found people from Palestine and Eastern Turkestan, and Myanmar to say salam to, and socializing with. But, to her great sorrow, nobody from Andalusia.
With a wish to visit and perform salah in al-Quds and in Andalusia he left this world.
She used to follow Friday prayers in al-Quds, and always wished to live long enough to hear just once an adhan reverberating in Andalusia.
Today her wish is being fulfilled. I am sure that her departed soul is being notified of this big event - a mu’azzen calling people to Friday prayers!
