now THIS is the version of the game I remember playing! IIRC it was made because the Dango did not perform well in overseas markets. This port also didn't perform well, especially since it wasn't as fantastic as the original, but I still have fond memories of it.
This game was actually planned to be a pack-in title for Dango Soft's new IBM-compatible DOS PC named Dingo. However, due to Dango Soft's financial woes, the Dingo was scrapped & the game was released in a limited fashion as stated in the video description.
@@jayhastie9838 I mean, the N64 had more ram than the Dango, but it sure as hell wasn't efficient with it. Whoever wrote the Dango compiler deserves a medal, cuz that thing could seriously optimize some code! Same thing with the asset compression, and the decompression algorithm was wicked fast.

I still think Dune (Stephane Picq) and Dune II (Frank Klepacki doing an impression of Stephane Picq) did the best job of playing to the YM3812's strengths. Jill of the Jungle was up there too.
Despite being the less technically advanced release, the DOS version of the Fantastic Adventures of SEXDICK has a far larger cult following than the Windows CD-ROM release. This is the version that most people played as children, because most families couldn't afford a high enough end PC to play the "better" version. Even aside from that, it's widely agreed that the MIDI soundtrack and VGA graphics of DOS SEXDICK aged a lot better than the early, rough attempts at CD Audio and early 3D Acceleration used experimentally in SEXDICK CD, as fans call it.
@Labergemusic It was a real shame the Dango only saw an official release in Japan and Bulgaria. It's really the best way to play SEXDICK. Most of us plebs were stuck with the various ports to other platforms.
@@AdarisTempest there was also the redesigned version of the console that dropped in Brazil in 2002, but the release was super limited since it was really just a desperate attempt to stave off the bankruptcy
I vaguely remember playing this on shareware after hearing it from a friend, so glad it's found now! I thought I'd never hear about Sahks Dihk ever again.
So nostalgic, this was one of the first games i ever played. I remember that they had this installed on the school computer, and people would always get in trouble for playing it.
I don't know what specifically, but something about the compression found in the non-DOS version just make the track sound better, really emphasizes the age, and as a result, you can almost hear the legacy, y'know?
I remember playing the DOS version when I was 12, I was amazed that the DOS could run something like Sexdick! Looking back at it now, I feel silly. Still, you can't lie that Sexdick DOS isn't a pioneer in isometric platformers
MAN i remember playing this on a pentium machine with 16 mb ram, this game was quite demanding when it came out and i had to play it on lowest settings, at around like 15-20 fps lol, cant imagine anyone trying on a 486DX-50 as they advertised,
I wonder how performant this would be on a more modern x86 processor... Heck, I wonder if we could use a GeForce card with it... With a little bit of texture and model swapping, we *might* be able to recreate the original experience (minus the physics simulation, lighting, audio engine, analog input, control scheme and shaders)
Ah, the DOS release, one of the few that didn't have a terrible soundfont. Too bad the game undersold due to production costs, as it came on 37 floppy disks.
This was the fan-made port made by the means of reverse engineering. Dango console instruction set documentation was leaked which made fan-made ports possible. Sadly the source code was never released and there was also no port for popular i386 Windows and Motorolla68k Mac machines
The setup program had options for the Sound Blaster Pro 2 and Sound Blaster 16, but as far as I can tell, the game didn't make use of those cards' more advanced music capabilities. There was also an option for a peripheral called the Dango Sound Dingus that I have never heard of before. Maybe when Clint from LGR gets his house situation sorted out, we might see a video on it some day.
Not much is known about the music format used in DOS Sexdick and oh wait where did this file come from I don't remember that being there drive.google.com/file/d/1yRD6J2KyMhOtFR1mkuUD6NdFIAZBj955/view?usp=sharing
Yeah! This was my jam, back in the day. This game never saw the same success as the other contemporary console mascots, such as Mario or Sonic, but it was still quite a fantastic and unique game. Porting SEXDICK from the Dango to the MS-DOS was no easy task. A lot of sacrifices had to be made as a result. The fully-voiced FMVs, from the original Dango version, were cut and replaced with stills with silent text. Even the final level was completely removed. The devs didn't believe anyone would actually play that far, and didn't want to waste money that an extra floppy would cost, (it was already on twelve), so they removed the level outright, and replaced it with a flashy congratulations screen. Obviously, these issues were fixed a year later, when they released it on CD-ROM. I also spent a year in South Korea, back in the 90s, helped get me through a lot of hard times. I really would love to play it again, but it's not something you can easily find, if at all, back here in the States. The Dango didn't really sell well here, and who knows how few DOS copies were sold.
I'm just fascinated seeing so many people thats still care for this game after all these years..
Holy fuck you were one of the developers on sexdick! That must have been a great experience!
Of course. The game has actual soul, unlike the dozens of AAA slop.
A developer of the game commented!!!
There's a universe where people make philosophical nightmare mods for Sexdick while Doom is lost media.
The Fantastic Adventures of SexDick is probably gonna evolve from a shitpost to a fan-made steam release
And I am all for it!!!
Well, if it were to get an official release, Jada Pada, the creator of the Sexdick ARG, would have to be the one to release it.
The fact that there’s already enough musical material for a soundtrack would make a fan-made game super possible
What do you mean? I played it a ton in the 90s, like, for real!😂😅
Imagine if we made an emulator for the Dango console
Reverse Mandela effect is now a possible reality.
Truly is the best timeline.
I think that's just called gaslighting.
Nothing will beat the original Dango release though. That one was just so ahead of its time
The MS DOS had so many limitations, I always had to go to my buddies place who had the Dango at the time to really enjoy the game

I heard rumours of a direct N64 port of the game but I think those seem a bit preposterous since the N64 is vastly underpowered compared to the dango

I used to do speed and play this back in the 90s. Simpler times
Don't ever mix heroin and Sexdick pal, I nearly had a panic attack thinking I saw him in the corner of my room once but it was just my wife 😂😂
Jokes aside, this is some of the best Adlib music I've ever heard. Compare this to Commander Keen or Wolfenstein, it blows them out of the water.
