i don't know how you kept evading my recommended page but alas here you are. loving the video and i'm happy to see someone using those lenses in a portrait setting because i have been pondering which one to get.
Thanks. Very helpful. I have them both but the 20-35 travels with me all the time. The 23 may be better but minimally as stated and the versatility and the weight play a role. Furthermore the 2-3 times I have used the 20-35 for Astro I got fantastic results ( including no coma) and no start streaking all the way up to 30 seconds. Very impressive
You’re welcome! Thanks for stopping by the channel and watching. That’s great to hear about the Astro. I have to try mine for that still! I had my doubts, but the 20-35 is a super lens for sure.
I had bought the GF 23mm and the new GF 20-35mm.Maybe the 23mm a better lens but not significant enough for me,so I sold the 23mm lens and not looking back again.I am very happy with my decision. The GF 20-35 is a lens I was looking for and it became my most used lens beside my GF 110mm.
When doing the comparisons and the lens corrections, were these done on the raw files or the JPEG? If I recall correctly, Fuji has a really good lens corrections built in but they only apply to the JPEGs. Wondering if this extra processing was needed for both. It seems like from the video it was done on raws, I wonder how well the built-in corrections in camera were
Great work - and you made me laugh, thank you! I really want to like the 20-35 as it seems so practical, my head says yes, but my heart... hmm? I'd love someone to make a wide lens for GFX with the Mitakon 65mm's character. That, I'd snap up in a heartbeat.
Thanks for watching! I’m there with ya! If you want to buy our 23mm we decided to sell it lol. Couldn’t justify keeping both. But ya I love the look of the Mitakon. I’m hoping for a fisheye or ultra wide GFX lens myself one day!
Good work! I have been waiting for someone to do a good comparison with photos. To my shock not many people have but understandably I guess. They are expensive but such a good UA-cam video opportunity. Thanks… makes me not want any to sell my 23mm now for the versatility. I think the auto focus motors are different too. Linear on the 23mm? Superior I guess?
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful. Yes 23mm has the linear motor (LM)…in real world use it was maybe slightly better AF but I mostly use these lenses for landscape so to me that’s not as big a selling point but definitely could be for some folks. And yes I had wanted to put these two lenses side by side since I got the 20-35. With the lens corrections in post it definitely performs very closely to the 23mm. But certainly something special about the 23mm still. Anyway happy shooting!
Personally, I liked the prime better but if I could only have one, the practical side of me would go for the zoooooooooom. I'm 90% done with my review of the Tamron 20-40 f/2.8 Sony mount... and now I have to go reshoot all my test photos to have a theme... THANKS A LOT! I might be headed your way before too much longer. I'm shooting a rodeo in south JAW-JUH and may just keep heading south. Leave a light on... a tube light... maybe a nice pavotube ii.
Haha ! That would be great to see you! Definitely a Pavotube II in party gel chase mode will be left on! I agree with you - prime is slightly better but hard to beat the versatility of the zoomy. Look forward to checking out your review soon!
Always love a FJ video! Sad to tell Christian that I have sold my house and moving back up north after 49 years in FL. Just 2 weekends left to use me in a video.
For the price of a used 20-35mm F4 ($2200) you can get both the used 23mm F4 ($1000) and the 45mm F2.8 ($1000). Once the 20-35mm hit the market, used 23's dropped significantly. It's a tough choice but I think I'd go 23 plus 45.
@@anthonym3051nice! Enjoy it. I don’t use the 23mm much anymore. The 20-35 is just so dang versatile and some of my favorite shots are on that little bit wider 20mm.
Diffraction is a word mothers used to scare their children away from using lenses. Ansel Adams and other great landscape photographers routinely shot at f/64. And they didn’t have the benefits of Diffraction Correction in software that we do now. You can also do a lot with texture and detail sliders to get back any subtle softness you might perceive is lost. Tho I myself shoot at f/32 often and the trade off in softness vs getting everything in focus is something I rarely think about. It’s pretty negligible on the 23mm lens and the GFX. F/32 is certainly not a tool I use for everything, but absolutely nice to have when I need it.
I agree. It’s tough to tell a significant difference once you add on the lens correction. I kept looking for reasons to keep the 23mm, and it is better but only slightly…and the trade off of having the zoom range with the 20-35mm is hard to beat. For me anyway.

Based on these two very similar lenses, do you think a brighter angle will come out?
What do you mean brighter? Like faster F stop?

That’s an interesting way to go…not a bad idea! Didn’t realize the 23mm hit that low on the used market. Ouch.
@FilmJams I wonder what used market that is?
@@Gman1044 The used market I’m referring to is Fred Miranda.
