Another choice reminder of what I LOVED about Kelly Garrett! Seeing her in Sammy Cahn's WORDS & MUSIC on Broadway in 1974 made me a real fan. What's great about the audio in this clip is that it captures some of richness of her voice in live performance. Kelly Garrett had a SERIOUS WOW factor on stage. The beauty of her voice; her musicality; her poise; & the warmth of her personality (not to mention her good looks!) gave her a charisma that few girls singers could rival then or now .
She had talent: which meant that she had no need to expose herself or throw her legs in the air. And I believe there is a notable absence of a synthesizer, etc.
When i was a kid i saw Kelly on Broadway and she was so beautiful and talented -- i remember talking a lot about her with my mom and dad - i had a crush on her - here it is 50 years later and this video pops up and to be honest i had not thought of her or the name Kelly Garrett in decades - so with this reminder i watched this video of her and Dean and i see why i was so taken with her back then - she passed away in 2013 at the age of 69 from cancer - RIP Kelly and Dean

Don't forget that every single movie produced by Hollywood featured people with cigarettes. Smoking was considered "cool", and made cowboys look like glamour stars. Not until I don't know when were cigarettes forbidden on TV and movies, and it took longer than that for people to understand the damage, physical and psychological, that smoking did. Dean was basically a shy person, he and Frank Sinatra and thousands more were deliberately targeted by the industry before we knew that cigarettes kill. He used a "drink" and a smoke as props for going out on stage on his own. Became a chain smoker, I'd say. It doesn't take more than a few cigs to become addicted, and the industry knew what it was doing.
I just stumbled across this video. I saw the name Kelly Garrett which is obviously this person singing with Dean. But what threw me off was, it's the same exact first name and last name of a fictional character. The actress' real name is: "Jaclyn Smith" her fictional first name and last name is Kelly Garrett who just happened to be one of Charlie's Angels.
The first time I ever heard of her, she was a musical guest on "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson." Of course, being in high school at the time, I tuned in thinking it was going to be Jaclyn Smith from "Charlie's Angels (TOS)!" One of the few times I was ever glad to be wrong about something. 😉
@@unclepaul299 Dean blowing smoke on Kelly Garrett must have got her hooked, she passed away in 2013, aged only 69, from throat and tongue cancer. Wonder if it destroyed her looks & singing early.
Imagine being so flat-out ugly and untalented that you're jealous of Dean Martin. I suspect that his handsome face, smooth singing, and sheer magnetism has you all in a tizzy. As Joe Namath said "Dean was a wonderful experience". Agreed to by legions of women, plus James Stewart, Orson Welles, 100% of Hollywood/Las Vegas/USA, and even Princess Anne who invited him to the UK for a birthday party and concert, making sure to have him seated next to her. Princess Anne was no slouch when it came to identifying handsome men. Dean Martin dressed impeccably and beautifully, tailor made clothing, frequently from the best in Italian design. He had beautiful thick hair, a great physique with broad shoulders, a very attractive hairline which is kind of unusual, to the envy of many of his male co-stars. He also had a very attractive personality, which you seem to lack altogether, being that boring. "Sweaty"? I don't think so. Juliet Prowse seemed to often want to remove his clothes. So did Petula Clark, and Goldie Hawn certainly didn't mind. Christened "King of Cool" by Elvis Presley, If the only thing you can call him is a "coupon", then you really are a sad case.
@@susantunbridge4612 "Princess Anne was no slouch when it came to identifying handsome men"...yes, her talent is a gift to us all. Strange that she's adopted a look similar to Christopher Walken in Balls Of Fury
All those guys smoked three or more packs a day! And they lived as long as they did with the drinking and poor diet on top of it. Amazing and disgusting.
"three or more" is exaggerating. He spent the day, every day, on the golf course where he might not have been smoking. Sundays he went in to do the show, and would not have been able to smoke for the whole time, so probably grabbed a cig when he could, depending on how his guest felt about it. Personally, I and a few million others would not have kicked him out of bed over cracker crumbs, and he could smoke as much as he liked.
La canción es preciosa y el dueto fantástico, empastan las voces estupendamente ❤
Wonderful! I'll watch it many times in the future.
Kelly was an amazing person. She was our neighbor for the last seven years of her life. I miss our conversations.
Amazing talent, very rich quality and real strength to her voice. She never got near the accolades she deserved.

It's unbelievable as to how strong was Dean Martin's addiction to cigarettes. Never saw him without one in his hand.

Dean was a 17 pack a day smoker.
The only time dean never had a cigarette in his Hands was when he was sleeping. He was fortunate heavy smoking didn't disrupt his singing.
It must have been lovely for his singing partner, breathing in his stale smoke breath!
