If Mcgregor had approached that fight in his traditional karate stance the outcome would have been the same,infact he'd have been even more open to calf kicks,he would have ZERO opportunity to block them.

@@gregg9788 the whole point on why the stance was bad was with boxing he’s static standing there eating them. With karate he can bounce out of the way as he’s light on his feet. The biggest thing in my opinion was the boxing stance was very very heavy on the front leg. Him being in karate wouldn’t be too much of an issue as most of the power in his punched comes from his rear (left) leg

It seems like a good matchup for Conor, the styles, but it would be rough seeing Tony in a third rough outing. Tony should do a gatekeeper fight to get his head back on straight. Conor should fight Gaethje and sink or swim, but without the right gameplanning he would sink.
I remember back in the day Conor said something along the lines of “you can’t be half in this game.” Well you can’t be half in the mma game and half in the boxing game. Conor needs to fully commit to mma and never box again if he wants to become champion again
Never said, nor implied that Dustin wasn’t the better man or that he didn’t beat him fair and square. Just saying that if you ain’t fully committed the losses are going to accumulate regardless of whether you’re a curtain jerker or a main eventer.

@@mrqas2000 He's changed his stance and style from his karate/taekwondo stance and light on his feet sliding in and out, outside fighting picking his shots and throwing kicks to boxing orientated, front leg heavy stance and strategy, keeping his hands up instead of in front of him like in his best fights and focusing more on fighting in the pocket and boxing over his flashy, movement orientated style in the old days of Conor. This is because he's more invested in a boxing-type style as he was half training boxing ready for the manny fight and his training camp is also more boxing orientated. So while he's in the best shape and had his "best camp", his strategy was completely different and I'd argue his previous style would of been more effective against someone like Poirier, as if he was fighting on the outside and picking shots like he used to his leg wouldnt be there as much and he wouldnt of been so heavy on it when he did get caught. If you disagree you should watch his fights in 2014-2016 and compare it to how he fights today. Completely different style....

The real problem is Conor . He won’t let his coach do the coaching. Watch the fight and between round 1&2 Conor didn’t listen to any coaching and just walked around. All John said was “great work , just be you “ . No advice at all just “yes men”
@Kota Lz He is a good coach and did help get Conor to where he is but anyone who watched that fight who isn’t bias can easily see there was no coaching happening between rounds and no coaching happening from the sidelines. Conor never sat down and never even made eye contact with John or any member of his team between rounds.

Not really . These guys done what no other gym could do with a fighter and more people don't come out of there because the talent in europe is limited and they concentrate more on Conor than anyone else so people don't really want to go there.

He even says "I thought i was checking them" in his post fight; in Dustin's interview with Brett, Dustin says Conor was *trying* to check them, but not doing it properly, it needed to be bone on bone to be a real check for that type of kick. He literally didn't know how to handle that kick.
Yeah I agree. Against Eddie he would lure him to attack, then use his movement to be out of the way before countering. Conor at his best is an elusive counter striker. Hopefully he can get back there

I'd love to see mcregor do a camp with ATT, RVCA or another well known high level gym, I think his lack of good sparring partners and him being his own head coach might be becoming an issue for him
Mcgregor has the money to bring in any sparring partners. There’s a reason he doesn’t spar with good people it’s so he doesn’t take damage and it’s so he can spar punching bags to work on his technique.

It's an absolutely amazing fight to make i think. Both PPV wise and stylistically. Everyone would have been exicted for that fight.... The only problem is that the fighter who lose will have their career ended pretty much, and i like them both alot :/ I think both Conor and Tony needs to gain back their confindence again wirh a win, and then possibly fight each other.

Conor’s style was elusive, speed, countering, precision, light on your feet & toes. Ido portal (the dork in the park) is Conor’s X-factor his most underrated part of his success. Sad that he wasn’t in this camp or the camp for him against Cowboy Cerrone. But, he did state he will be in Conor’s next camp so I hope he fixes Conor’s movement because he is heavy on his feet, flat footed. In summary: Get Conor moving again he needs that fluidity desperately.
He's old style is tiring so example he exploded in the first round and Dustin survived while mcgregor is tired end of the first round so it would end up like a Diaz vs mcgregor first fight but worst for conor

Conor gave him credit after the fight, but to be fair Conor was landing at will in the first round, I think it's very fair to say it was Conor's fault that he underestimated Dustin's kicks, rather than Dustin putting on a spectacular performance. Dustin did fight great, utilized what he needed to, but I honestly blame Conor's performance for the outcome more.

Conor needs to do a "Rocky 4", ditch his lavish lifestyle and luxuries, escape to a cold or working class gym with no contact and just his team and get his fire back. you cant do this for fun, there needs to be a chip, and now he has it.

He has been fighting that way since the Alvarez fight. Poirier is simply the more accomplished fighter in 2021. Conor peaked in 2015 and hasn't evolved since then. The game has moved beyond him.

Exactly what I thought before the fight. The fighter with the better and more established Jab/right Hook will win the exchanges. Conor overextended his punches and ate right Check Hooks. I thought Conor will have the right Hook for this Southpaw vs Southpaw matchup, especially since he trains a lot more pure boxing. He ended up being heavy on his legs and sitting on his punches, picked the wrong shots and overextended them. I hope he learns and adjust his whole standup game.

I've been watching conor a long time and its odd how one fight he can be so fluid and dynamic mixing up his strikes, then sometimes he stands there and focuses on pure trunk movement and hand fighting with his feet planted solid. That bouncing around, jumping in and out, shoving his toes into their stomach conor is the scary one.
Definitely. He seems to have gotten completely obsessed with boxing. The mayweather loss and the potential Manny fight made him obsess over it. It’s a great trait to have but just didn’t end up working out for him. He’s special, if he goes back to be diverse again he’ll be hard to beat
Conor needs to switch his team asap! I honestly don't remember a time when conors team/corner ever gave him good honest feedback after a round. It's just usually praise. After the first round not a single advice about the calf kicks. They're accustomed to being yes men given his fame and personality in my humble opinion.
Most corne men talk the fighters up in between rounds. You don't want to dicourage a fighter during a fight. They start to feel they will lose. They had to make him feel like he would win during the fight. But yes, I agree he needs some other ppl that will be brutally honest if Conor wants to seriously fight again.
I realized that during the fight with Floyd. Conor was gassin out, his shots making no damage, Floyd was fresh and starting hunting him down and during the rounds his team was like "Beatiful shot there! Beatiful Boxe here!" They really are a bunch of yesman
I would like to see him put in a year with one of the top global teams like att/aka/tristar and see if that makes a difference. Nothing against the irish lads and admire the loyalty but just cant help but feel he would benefit from world class training and daily sparing with world class martial artists. Feel hes missing a trick there big time.
His praise was rightfully deserved though. He clearly was beating Dustin up until his leg went dead, even in the clinch his shoulder strikes were much more effective.
Conor will need to go back to more in/out movement, teep kicks and other kicks - and ditch the plotting boxing style, in order to have a chance against Dustin. It'd be interesting to see Conor's response to calf kicks.

His lead foot was turned even more inwards in that stance. Sideways karate stance is not great for checking low kicks either.
@@gregg9788 the whole point on why the stance was bad was with boxing he’s static standing there eating them. With karate he can bounce out of the way as he’s light on his feet. The biggest thing in my opinion was the boxing stance was very very heavy on the front leg. Him being in karate wouldn’t be too much of an issue as most of the power in his punched comes from his rear (left) leg
His wide stance is I a natural issue he has. Watch his walk, he walks with a wide gate that a natural stance for him.

@@mrqas2000 He's changed his stance and style from his karate/taekwondo stance and light on his feet sliding in and out, outside fighting picking his shots and throwing kicks to boxing orientated, front leg heavy stance and strategy, keeping his hands up instead of in front of him like in his best fights and focusing more on fighting in the pocket and boxing over his flashy, movement orientated style in the old days of Conor. This is because he's more invested in a boxing-type style as he was half training boxing ready for the manny fight and his training camp is also more boxing orientated. So while he's in the best shape and had his "best camp", his strategy was completely different and I'd argue his previous style would of been more effective against someone like Poirier, as if he was fighting on the outside and picking shots like he used to his leg wouldnt be there as much and he wouldnt of been so heavy on it when he did get caught. If you disagree you should watch his fights in 2014-2016 and compare it to how he fights today. Completely different style....

Exactly what I thought before the fight. The fighter with the better and more established Jab/right Hook will win the exchanges. Conor overextended his punches and ate right Check Hooks. I thought Conor will have the right Hook for this Southpaw vs Southpaw matchup, especially since he trains a lot more pure boxing. He ended up being heavy on his legs and sitting on his punches, picked the wrong shots and overextended them. I hope he learns and adjust his whole standup game.

Even Dustin wants the rematch so it’s really not a bad thought process....Dustin said he was hurt and if they leg doesn’t go out he was in trouble.

I honestly don't remember a time when conors team/corner ever gave him good honest feedback after a round. It's just usually praise. After the first round not a single advice about the calf kicks. They're accustomed to being yes men given his fame and personality in my humble opinion.
yup no advice whatsoever nor did Conor complain about them it was weird... maybe these guys arent as good as they made us think
Most corne men talk the fighters up in between rounds. You don't want to dicourage a fighter during a fight. They start to feel they will lose. They had to make him feel like he would win during the fight.
But yes, I agree he needs some other ppl that will be brutally honest if Conor wants to seriously fight again.
I realized that during the fight with Floyd. Conor was gassin out, his shots making no damage, Floyd was fresh and starting hunting him down and during the rounds his team was like "Beatiful shot there! Beatiful Boxe here!" They really are a bunch of yesman
I would like to see him put in a year with one of the top global teams like att/aka/tristar and see if that makes a difference. Nothing against the irish lads and admire the loyalty but just cant help but feel he would benefit from world class training and daily sparing with world class martial artists. Feel hes missing a trick there big time.
His praise was rightfully deserved though. He clearly was beating Dustin up until his leg went dead, even in the clinch his shoulder strikes were much more effective.
I wanna see tony vs mcgregor, there both coming off losses and there in the same division, that makes sense , right??

Conor will need to go back to more in/out movement, teep kicks and other kicks - and ditch the plotting boxing style, in order to have a chance against Dustin. It'd be interesting to see Conor's response to calf kicks.

Agreed. He did not look like the Conor that won fights in the past. He was flat footed and shuffling one foot forward, one back, instead of the twinkle toes and dynamic movement that won him the belts in the past. He was frozen and stiff as a board.
Yeah his boxing has improved, but overall stand up went down hill when he doesn't kick much anymore.
