  • Dustin Poirier returns to Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show to look back at his time on Fight Island that was capped off by knocking out Conor McGregor at UFC 257. “The Diamond” says he hasn’t heard from the UFC (16:00) about what’s next, but expresses that he should be fight for the lightweight title next. He also discusses a potential trilogy against McGregor and the other potential opponents in the lightweight division.

      @@DATAYT Conor can't go back to his old style because it's still reliant on wide stance with exposed leg and everyone is onto that now. He doesn't have many options for altering his style. He gasses too quickly to hang for full bouts, and now without stance he cannot generate the power to finish bouts quickly. He's pretty much done as a top level contender.

    I feel for Dustin, he seems like an anxious/thoughtful guy and this media stuff is visibly bugging him a bit. Hope he's fully enjoying his win and he doesn't get too tilted from fans and media. People get incredibly obnoxious trying to talk about fighting when they don't have the experience to back it up.

      @Unpredictable_One_ UFC I think its the media being borderline disrespectful. He says something meaningful and the interviewers are like "yeah okay" onto the next question that's unrelated to what he said. I can see it in his facial expressions at times
      When I used to watch football (soccer) the athletes don't get this many interviews. They aren't repeating themselves to different interviewers for days on end leading up to their match. So I can only imagine what it's like for fighters

      They aren’t slimy questions, it’s more a matter of how you handle them. None of these questions would have been wrong to ask Conor. Dustin is different. Ariel should adjust based on who he’s talking to, but at the same time, Dustin doesn’t want to answer any of these questions.

      I don't really think this is a weasel question tbh. The UFC pays it's athletes so little compared to other sports organizations it's criminal. Despite it continually becoming more, and more mainstream and profitable. Certainly an uncomfortable one, but I don't think there was ill intent. Ariel followed up with concern on how he thinks athletes should probably get portions of PPV. Which they should. I think media putting more focus on fighter pay is actually super important for the sport long-term.

      thats because conor making 1000 mistakes is more conversation to talk about than dustin winning what else is there to say about dustin than that? everyone knows he did a good job reading conor getting a few nice counter right hooks and the counter calf kicks which set up the tko conor was def different theres no arguing that he was flat footed the whole fight high boxer guard was 90% boxing which made him predictable he was a completely different fighter and not in a good way everything he usually does he didnt do

    Would be pretty upsetting if they did connor vs Dp for the title. Connor hasn't won in the lw division for 4 years. Olivera is far more deserving.

      Is all about what you bring in,ufc only cares who makes them the most money,you need to wake up,its all business,conor v dustin trilogy for the title makes more money than dustin v anyone else and thats all it boils down to,wy do you think they let McGregor get these opportunities? If he didnt make them the most money then he wouldnt be in the position hes in nor would he be as rich as he is himself

    Genuine guy that cut zero corners. Says it like it is. Has worked hard and Imho the next fight should be for the title. Very solid career thus far. Him and Justin Wren as well as some others are helping others that are less fortunate, which he fully understands as he's been there before. Lots of respect! All the best going forward brother!
