For anyone also watching this, a good alternative to regular spray paint is tractor paint. Stuff is super durable and relatively inexpensive. I've had frame repairs on my car sprayed by the welder, and they still look good after 2 or 3 New England winters

Anything other than stripping and re-chroming is only going to be a temporary fix at best, if it works!
I decided that when i discovered my forks on my project bike were beginning to flake and pitting was just beginning to appear that , instead of going with rubbing down the high spots and removing even more of the protective layer of chrome which was coming off anyway, I would have them re-chromed right from the start. I Shopped around and found prices from £150- £270 for the pair ($290-$520AU) so its worth looking around and saving yourself the grief of having to do it again in six months!

learned a neat idea recently, you can grow crystals of metal with electrolysis so my idea is to use a similar power range that is slightly weaker with modeling clay to hold the solution over a damaged area and then drop in a strip of nichrome to just fill the pits with that and then polish it down

i wouldve thought that epoxy would be too thick to penetrate all the small pitting and gain proper adhesion. i might try this, but with superglue for the smaller pitting and epoxy for the bigger pits.

T Phas that’s very interesting, are the seals in the right way. Try looking for a bent fork with a steel ruler on the side of the tube, or maybe the seals just need replacement if you haven’t done them. Other than that I’m unsure brother

Best tip is to bring the parts and say there is no hurry, just put it into next batch of same color and use common colors like black. This way they can coat it while doing parts for big companies and such hence cutting the work time to heat oven etc so its much cheaper. Same thing with parts you need to machined, find local smaller shop and tell them to do it when they have spare time, so time pressure, just say you will be coming back in say week or month to check them up and say time estimate you would like to get them done so those wont just sit there for eternity, or next cleaning day. Best sign is if they put them into box or just ticket on them that ID the owner or job number.

I'm very interested to see how this goes. Hoping it works. The only saving grace is your attitude and inegrity with this channel. I just don't see your viewers as the type to offer you a giant pile of 'fail' just for a laugh.

It is a horrible idea if you dont have Dan's set of skills, tools and machinery. He always says this is a budget build and I love to watch him but the fact is not everyone have his passion, the stuff in his garage or enough money to buy it. I have a build on my channel which I made within a really reeeally low budget, even my camera is shitty. I just had the will and passion to do it .. but I sure would prefer to build the bikes with the budget of Dan's channel, so its more a matter of perspective after all, if he had a bigger budget I'm sure he would change tubes but the glue works.
