I moved to Tampa in 1985! Loved it. Affordable. 275 wasn’t too crowded. I could pay my apt rent with one week’s pay. An amazing time. Now landlord greed has taken over.

When my family was still poor, we moved to Tampa and the city did good for us, we had it rough but it was still decent city to be in, i always came back and visted and watched it advance into something beautiful but now its gone from a sort of low-key place to a giant attraction across the country. It just has too many good things going for it and people see that now, unfortunately i wont be able to move there like i thought i would, in the span of a few 5ish years everything exploded in cost and became unaffordable for alot of locals. Damn shame for such a cool city,

I wonder if we can set up RV parking systems by having motor home WiFi hotspot vehicles and base out of like not on the coast but a secret unwritten app system of paying homeowners to park on their driveways which is win-win as they are rich in real estate appreciation but not rich in liquid cash and they may not want to take out equity loans or sell, or rent , so instead …. They can let motor home owners park on their property for a night fee and then one can live anywhere they want… and it’s paying willing homeowners for the right to park on their lawn.
Another idea is living on boats that are anchored by rope to docks and then that’s where you live and it’s cheaper than a high rise …. Why do we need housing ? We just need food toilet an air mattress a gym membership and a secret place to crash you know? Maybe it’s just me but knowing if I could live like this for a year instead of paying rent I could have $40,000 more to do whatever I want with, why do I want to kill that on rent?

The problem with Florida, no matter what increases hit your wallets like utilities, rent, mortgages interest, etc. the incomes will never increase. Florida has among lowest wages and the business climate knows people looking employment are more than the low paying jobs. Employers eventually get rid of the highest wage earners and bring in new blood for lower pay. Florida workers are finding themselves looking for second jobs to keep up and not rattle their bosses for a raise.

I live outside of Cleveland my electric bill for October was $48, didn't run heat or A/C. During the winter with my baseboard heating it does go up ranges $125 - $200 for about 5 months. I don't run air conditioning through the summer. But all my friends are like family and all live in the Tampa area so I'm still waiting for an educated guess good time to sell my house and move to the Tampa area. Face it eventually I bet Tampa will be only affordable for rich people. I hope I'm wrong I'm not rich and I can't afford a $450K house. If there is a fixer-upper for something like $200K then I'm in.
I live in a paid off 1987 single family house, 1500 sq.ft., and total costs to live here, only basic, not doing anything entertainment or activities, no restaurants, etc. is around $9K-$10K for the year. Where else can you live for so little? And it's a fairly nice area too.
