  • We camped at Six Mile Lake Provincial Park from July 23rd to the 27th, 2023. This is the first park of a five park tour. The tour consists of 3 or 4 nights each at Six Mile Lake PP, Driftwood PP, Samuel de Champlain PP, Mikisew PP and Oastler Lake PP.
    We really enjoyed our time at Six Mile Lake. It has short, rugged trails that are very scenic. There is a nice bay that is buoyed off from the rest of the lake so that you can swim and do your paddle sports without motorboats being close by. There are some very nice non-electric waterfront sites. Jax loved the leash-free dog park. This park was a great way to start off our 16 night trip.

    I was just here this weekend and did the "Learn to Fish" program fishing lesson Saturday morning. They seemed pretty organized. The first half is a one hour presentation lesson on things like the fishing regulations in Ontario, the types of fish in the lake you are at, how to tie a hook to your fishing line, how to cast, etc. Then you fish off the one dock for one hour in the second half of the lesson. The water is shallow there so the fish are not too big. I caught two fish and took a picture with my first "monster" catch. I think it is a worthwhile thing to do at this park or any other park that has the Learn to Fish program, whether you are looking to get into fishing or just something to do while at the park.

      That's awesome! I'm glad you took advantage of that program. We've seen people doing it at other parks and it seems like a very worthwhile program. Thanks for letting us know how it went.

    Went to Six Mile about 2 years ago. Stayed only one night. The tent caterpillars were so overwhelming we left after lunch on Saturday. We spent most of Saturday morning sweeping the caterpillars off our equipment. Could hardly eat our as they were dropping out of the trees. Wish the park had mentioned this in the alert section. Can happen in any park but not one of us will ever return to that park. Lol

      Yikes! That one year we heard about the caterpillar invasions at a bunch of parks. We were lucky and missed it everywhere we went. It sounds horrible and we're so glad we missed it.

    Thanks for another comprehensive review. I’ve been hesitant due to the proximity to the 400, but after this review, I think it’s definitely doable for 2-3 nights. The dog beach is the best I’ve seen.

    Thank you for checking out six mile lake for us. We are definitely going to hit this campground up next summer. Only 2 hours from us so the kids won't go to crazy on the drive. And it gives me mini grundy lake vibes, which is one of my favorite campgrounds. I can't wait to see what driftwood brings!❤

    We love watching all of your video's. I'm wondering if you could talk about camping with your dog. We take our guy everywhere but find it does limit the things we can do, like the winery visit you mentioned in this video. What do you do with Jax where there is something you and Cheryl want to do together? Do you plan your activities around being dog friendly? Where is he when you go out for a bike ride? Thanks!

    I last camped at Six Mile Lake in 2018. We had one of the sites in the Pine area. When we came back from our "fudgie run" (ice cream treat) there was a lot of commotion at the site next to us. a bear had walked on their site!

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  11 місяців тому

      That would be exciting. We rarely see bears or moose. Pine campground was really loud for highway noise and seemed to not have a lot of privacy. We really liked where we were in Birch.

    Did you make a video when choosing / buying your RV?
    I would love to know why you picked that brand, what stood out with it over other RV brands, how long you’ve had it and what you had before.. We just spent months looking at the different types of RV’s..

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  11 місяців тому

      We bought the RV in 2017 and didn't start our UA-cam channel until 2019. We fell in love with it at the Toronto RV show in 2013 and it became our dream trailer. In 2017 we found out that the model was being discontinued and we got the last new one in Canada. Big must haves for us was dual axle, tip out bed for when our adult kids wanted to come along, slide out and a fully functional trailer when the slide out is in. Some slideouts, when in, block access to the bathroom or bedroom. Before this one we had a 2004 Starcraft Travelstar 19CK. It was our first trailer and we bought it used in 2010. It was a nice little trailer that we really enjoyed.

    Have a stupid question….lol what do you mean by barrier free????? Also after your time at these sites,,do you empty your water tank for travelling , and than fill up at next park

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  10 місяців тому

      Barrier Free is the term the parks use which essentially means wheelchair accessible. We always empty our tanks for travel because if we didn't we would be over our weight limit. A full tank of water for us equals 400 pounds. When we fill up at a park we only drive with that weight for a short distance to our site then unhook allowing the tongue jack and stabilizer jacks to support some of the weight.

  • @thercguy
    @thercguy 11 місяців тому

    Great looking park.. like your driving clips as well..
    We live in Burlington and I know the area you guys are from..
    Do you avoid that 400.. We love near north camping but always look for an alternative to the 400

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  11 місяців тому +1

      We try to avoid the 400 and 401 as much as possible. When going up north we take sideroads for as far as possible before getting on the 400 from Horseshoe Valley Rd just north of Barrie. It adds some time to the drive but makes it so much more enjoyable and relaxing.

    I noticed several empty sites as you were going through. Does that mean sites are easier to get this year or it isnt a popular park. Wehave never been there. We are bookedfor fall camping as we are camping down east right now.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  11 місяців тому

      When we record the campsite we usually do it in the afternoon during the turnover of sites. People pack up and leave and the new people haven't arrived yet. We prefer to show the empty sites so you can see them and to not bother or freak out the people when they see us filming their sites. Parks seem to be as busy as always.
