Hey Bret! It’s been a while since you last appeared on my homepage, but just to let you know, you and Butter were my mom’s favourite thing to watch before she passed last 2021. She constantly talked about you guys and made her very happy even in her last few months of battling cancer. Seeing this video just reminded me of good memories with her. Hope you’re doing well!

The dried fish is called Danggit. So long as its properly dried and stored , it can last longer. Also, when frying this kind of fish make sure fire is Low to medium and only for a minute . This kind burns so fast and would taste bitter. I like this crispy and dipped in suka with sili . Best served with garlic rice, sliced tomatoes with other OG pinoy breakfast combo like silog paired with coffee or tablea.

That looks delicious, Bret. Part of my father family was in the Cocoa business and used to import cocoa from Easter Cuba, Bcaracoa. However, the best cocoa in the world is produced in Ecuador. People in Mackinac Island, Michigan, near the US/Canadian (I-75 bridge), also know that they process lots of good chocolate 🍫, too. On my first trip to the Philippines, I had chocolate in the Bukidnon area, too.
On another topic, Bret and Butter, I was going to look you up on my upcoming Canadian trip, and I know now you are in Kulas, so that will have to do it another time.
If you want to come to Florida, get in touch with me so you won't have problems at our CBP.
    Enjoy, man.

Our Philippine cacao came from mesoamerica (Mexico) introduced by the Spanish. Batirol is an adaptation of the Mexican Molinillo. Mexico and the Philippines were historically linked via the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade. We were under the Viceroyalty of New Spain, which is now Mexico.

Danggit is one of the best dried fish in the Philippines. Eventhough it's been in your suitcase 6 months still alright. Don't forget it's dry n fermented, no need to worry still you can eat. Different smell but after you cook its crunchy like pork crackling.

UA-cam loves you. You're the 1st thing that appeared when I opened UA-cam 😊 I've had similar wild honey. Almost like yogurt sour. It may come from the type of flower where the bees get the nectar. If they pasteurize the honey, it loses the sour profile. Leaving a mild tangy flavor.
After almost 400 years, the cocoa from the Philippines has finally come back home to its motherland, Mexico. But a lot of chocolate connoisseurs say that the chocolate from the Philippines has transformed and is no longer similar from the originals from South and Central America.

Hey Bret! Jus came a cross your YT channel, and it makes me happy to see foreigners like you, who appreciates our culture, our food, etc.. 😊
As a Filipino and Bisaya in particular, we love our Sikwate so much. But we don't use Honey as a sweetener since it has the tendency to alter the taste of the Sikwate. Instead we use brown or white sugar. Now a days, I don't even add milk nor sugar on my Sikwate (health reasons hehe).😅
Also, there are various kinds of honeys here in Philippines. And they have distinct flavors, colors, scents, etc.😊
Hope you can visit our country again soon, and explore the other regions and cities here. Philippines is a (small) country of great diversity. 🥰

Hi Brett. Im a budding beekeeper, and I think the honey you bought was not extracted thru centrifuge that's why there was still a lot of moisture left in the comb. Nothing wrong with it, just that the moisture wasn't allowed to escape that's why it ended up fermenting. :)

I enjoyed watching this video and it was a coincidence because I prepared one last night for my family. Not all tablea are made the same, I noticed. Looks like yours is the good kind since it dissolves evenly and not very bitter. Personally, I use milk instead of water to cook my tsokolate/sikwate drink to make it creamier and thicker. I also adjust the amount of milk to make it either "thick" or "watery" but I prefer mine thick so I tend to lessen the amount of milk. Afterwards I add sugar or condensed milk to taste. It is served on a small cup (espresso style) still very hot. I can't wait that 30 minutes like you do though. On the other hand, Danggit is totally not allowed in my house. It just stinks up the whole place.

I think you need to put the Danggit in the refrigerator or freezer to make it last for a year. The Danggit really has a bad smell, but it tastes really nice. Make it crispy, not burn it. But your place has cold weather, and the fish still look okay, so it's still okay to eat. Put fresh chilli and chopped garlic and onion in the vinegar. I'm hoping for another vlog. stay happy. This is what I know. You don't drink tableya. Tableya is what you make out of those cocoa seeds. You drink sikwate. Sikwate is what you make out of your tableya. Sikwate doesn't have to have milk for it to become sikwate. You can make pure sikwate. When you go to a sari-sari store and ask for a tableya, the tindera won't give you a drink. Instead, she will give you a pack of those molded tableya bricks.

Exactly! I asked the boys after I uploaded.. it’s funny because it’s only what I was told years ago, so that’s just what I thought it was called! Live and learn, that’s life :)

Hey Bret! In our house, we cook daing/bulad differently. Try cooking it without the oil first for like 30 seconds, then add the oil.
