Sounds just like F1. You can't steal "proprietary info" when NASCAR mandates the cars have to be basically identical. They busted Hamlin for a piece of tape under his nose wrap, FFS. Mark Martin used to do setups for other teams for cash in ARCA, and would share his setups with other drivers in NASCAR if they asked. Rusty got Mark's spring weights straight-up, then said he didn't believe Mark because it wouldn't work. Mark beat him.
How did the information about the engineer get out in the first place??
What technology can one team have over another with all the NASCAR controls. A special golden bolt? In Ricks day someone getting caught cheating would be fined and two or three weeks later everybody would be doing it.
I believe that engineer shot himself in the foot now.🤔

So a disgruntled JGR employee gets bribed by RCR (allegedly) to give them sensitive racing data
Maybe NASCAR is aware because this guy got fired and JGR told NASCAR to pull his hard card.
But things like Ackerman, static toe, rear suspension components, tire pressures, L & R caster (and caster offset [not allowed but who's watching it?]), power steering valve, T-bar, & pump flow rate,
all the KPI's that a driver needs to do well. (steering effort, road feel, throttle response, non-linear steering ratio, ...
A lot of things that work together as well as independently.

Rick Mast is exactly correct… these engineers do work for these teams under the obligation of a written contract. If the contract includes a non disclosure requirement then members of these teams cannot legally share information with other teams. To do so is wrong and their employer should have the right to be compensated well.
Exactly what I said if you don’t make every employee sign an NDA and a non compete then it’s on them for being stupid
It happened because someone at Gibbs racing didn't like how they screwed Kyle Busch with his contract, so they sold info to Childress racing

The feds raided RLL Indy Car to for similar issue
Back in the 90’s, I used to visit the shops as a supplier and everything was pretty open, with the exception of like Hendrick, Penske South, etc. Even those shops, once you signed in, security was pretty lax.
As a matter of fact, I used to go to RCR and would do the courtesy of announcing myself with the receptionist, then go straight back to Lakey Cornelius’ office. Talk to Mike Skinner, Robby Gordon and many of the staff. Dale Sr was more over at DEI back in those days…and my contact at DEI was Dale’s brother, Randy.
