Boot Scoot Takedown

  • In my opinion this is one of the most underutilized takedowns in wresting. As particularly proven by LIncoln McIlravy, this takedown works at the very highest levels, and yet you don't see many wrestlers using it. The beauty of this takedown is that it happens extremely fast and uses very little energy to execute.

    The whole time I was saying to myself... "where is McIlravy?!" ...and then you finished the video with a boot scoot master class from the man himself!

    I discovered this on my own senior year of high school when a practice opponent sprawled out to the side when I went for a fireman's carry. I found myself outside facing away, and just had to throw the arm, turn the corner, then pick up my 2. I actually started practicing it a little after that, but I don't think I ever hit it in a match because I never got good.

    This is actually really useful to use if you`re in relatively deep on a shot and can`t power through. Just boot scoot out to finish.. works like a charm.

      also works really well for shorter/compact wrestlers with a more "condensed" center of gravity, if you will

    This was my signature move called "duck under" it does have a defense however. Only been correctly defended once out of 100+ matches. One has to be 100% committed and set it up prior just like most of the moves. Looking back should have worked on this move a lot more and perfected it more. Just need to work on a few moves to be perfect. Like Cael Sanderson's single leg take down, which no one can defend against.

      This is different from a duck-under. This has you stepping across the opponents body, facing away from them, then having to turn the corner to get behind. The Duck-under is a step using the foot on the shot-side. If you’re always a left-foot shooter for example, the duck under would be to your left, going under your opponents right arm, and the boot scoot would go to your right, under your opponents left arm.

    • @ahgflyguy
      @ahgflyguy 2 роки тому

      @@app369 a sit-out is done from the down position, the boot-scoot shares some aspects even though it is done from facing the opponent, however. The type of wrist control is drastically different between the two of them, and the whole bit about your lower limbs being in front of you vs underneath or behind you is a very big difference.

    This is a duck under, not a boot scoot. Boot scoot is exactly that, where you scoot to the leg. There were no leg captures here.
    Edit: the one at 1:06 was a boot scoot.

    • @sparksfly369

      Terminology varies across time and location. I learned this move from Lincoln McIlravy, who referred to it as the Boot Scoot. Whether or not you grab the leg depends on the reaction of your opponent, but the initiation of the move is identical either way. If they fall straight to the mat, you just go behind, but if they stay on their feet, you grab the leg. The defining characteristic of the Boot Scoot is the drop straight to your butt (i.e. the "scoot")

    Duck under

    Duck under from elbow control with a hip heist or a knee slide. Not a "boot scoot".

    • @ahgflyguy
      @ahgflyguy 2 роки тому

      A duck-under going to the shooters right uses a right-foot shot. A boot-scoot going to the shooter’s right uses the left foot. It’s impersonating a high-crotch or a fireman’s carry, only the shot carries further to the outside, beyond the (presumably) sprawling opponent’s left leg. It has far less in common with a duck under than a single leg has in common with a duck under.

    • @smashleyscott8272
      @smashleyscott8272 2 роки тому

      @@ahgflyguy ... I was correcting the terminology, because the term "boot-scoot" doesn't describe the body mechanics involved in the hip heist, and it is red neck as fuck. Also, regardless of the specific technique used to perform a duck under (except a super duck- which isn't actually a duck under mechanically speaking), the duck under isn't a "shot".
