- A cow escaped her farm in Poland in November and is living her new life. She has been found months later roaming a forest with a herd of European bison. Forest officials say the herd has fully accepted the cow as one of their own.

The GREMM research team was filming a group of belugas when they realized a narwhal was amongst them! After photographing our vagrant as well as his companions from both sides, we were able to confirm that it was indeed the same narwhal!
The cetacean family Monodontidae comprises two living whale species, the narwhal and the beluga whale and at least four extinct species, known from the fossil record. Beluga and Narwhal are native to coastal regions and pack ice around the Arctic Ocean. Both species are medium-sized whales, between three and five metres in length, with a forehead melon, and a short or absent snout.
The bison and the domestic cow belong to the same family (Bovidae) and are genetically similar. This is basically the same case with the cow and the bisons. Different species but same family and very similar.

Cows do get butchered. They're milked and kept pregnant until a certain point and then they're eaten.

Today I learned there are bison in Europe.

Wild populations hunted to extinction in the Twenties, reintroduced from captive populations after WW2.
Of course there are on ranches... And not really wild. Only America Bison are truly wild.
The biggest population lives in bialowieza forest, so it's pretty wild.

Beautiful sure, but smart? Not usually. And it's just as cruel as it is beautiful. For example:
Cuckoos will push out a different bird's egg from their nest to lay their own egg their for that other bird to raise, and most of the time she won't even realise... She'll end up raising that Cuckoo chick, giving most of its resources to it (since Cuckoo chicks tend to be much bigger than the chicks of the species whose nests they parasitise), leaving her own offspring weak and half-starved (and that's assuming the Cuckoo chick doesn't push them out of the nest!)

With how skittish herd animals are, the fact they let the cow come that close to them during feeding means they accept it. Not as a fellow bison, but as a member of the herd, most likely.

It could be the sight of humans makes the bison more nervous and group together more tightly for protection, as if they are seeing a predator in the distance. The cow being somewhat use to humans just keeps grazing oblivious to the bison huddling. I could be wrong.
