- Well hey there folks and welcome back, I guess... to another Halo 2 campaign mod showcase! In this video, we continue our look at A mod for Quarantine Zone that styles it after a cut Halo 2 level where the Heretics would originally be fought, featuring new heretic vehicles, new allies + enemies, and a couple of new weapons. This is Halo 2 Alpha Moon Quarantine Zone, created by Sgt Stacker AKA Nullen!

A very loose restoration of a cut Halo 2 campaign level, Quarantine Zone's map geometry is the remaining 20% of a mission that eventually became The Arbiter/Oracle, where the Heretics were to be located on Basis. So, Nullen re-lit QZ's BSPs and changed its environment shaders to match Burial Mounds, to get an idea of what the level might've looked like before being recycled. The destruction of Installation 04 left Basis littered with debris and the level script seems to suggest that the Heretics had some sort of mining operation taking place there. They also had their own ghosts and wraiths, along with a cut "excavator" variant of the shadow that Nullen made his own interpretation of. They also used guerrilla warfare extensively against the Arbiter and the Spec-Ops task force, staging hit and run ambushes and setting traps that the player could avoid or disarm. Currently, Nullen's plan is to develop this mod further and eventually create a remake of Alpha Moon that is more true to the leftover level script that comes with the H2EK.
So, here's AlphaZone. The Heretic Leader has fled the gas mine to his compound on Basis so it's up to the Arbiter and Rtas' crack team of Covenant commandos to suppress the truth like any real followers of the Great Journey should. The Heretics are heavily dug-in here and heavy resistance is expected. Thankfully, their anti-air accidentally shot down a nearby Sentinel Factory when the Covenant were making landfall, so now the Sentinels want everyone dead instead of just you and your own. Alright, there's yer story fluff.
I think this was a very well made overhaul of Quarantine Zone that made it feel like an extension of the Heretic levels. The new Heretic vehicles fit well, the encounters were fun, additional scripts and allies really added a lot, and overall this was a fun (and somewhat challenging) campaign level! I hope to see a fully custom Alpha Moon by Nullen at some point in the future!

I wish there were human enemies (using covenant weapons) in the first two Arbiter missions, but I don't think enough people survived Halo CE to fight side by side with the Heretics

Finally a Mod for my favourite level in the entire franchise!
English-speaking Bungie Jackals are the coolest thing, it's nice to see them have their own personality distinct from the grunts and elites
I love now that the juggernaut has a more official death

I love that halo 2 is finally getting alot more campaign mods. I actually want to do a bit of it myself. Especially the uncut content
And sound effects that seem to be from the Halo 3 flood tank form.

Your fight with the heretic shadow cracked me up after you sniped the gunner, I should probably make it boardable lmao
edit: That's strange, a phantom is supposed to drop off a platoon of allies in that first exterior section but it didn't
I think it's alright that it's not boardable, that would make the other sections super easy if you could drive it and take it with you. But I was slightly confused the first time getting up close to it lol. Great job on the mod as a whole though!
What do the Heretic hunters look like because everytime they where incountered in the video they were always in dark shady areas
@@skinheadhomboi4794 They're still a WIP but currently they're purple and bronze colored, and I replaced their sensory spikes with those fin thingies on the heretic elite's back

@@catzillafirefox Yep, looks like there's a bug I need to fix. For some reason that happens if the player is in a ghost when they hit that trigger volume

Bruh I love it so much. Even the Brutes fighting alongside you, fits it perfectly.
I always wished that you had Brutes on your side given the dead bodies in the beginning of the mission before this one, the Jackals and Grunts are nice but it woulda been so cool to have a couple of Brute Minors accompanying you

I think the creator is planning on extending this level, or making an entirely custom Alpha Moon level in the future!

I'm not so sure I will continue this Alpha Moon mod now that the community's about to get ahold of the real thing after all these years, but I'll definitely add the stuff seen here into it.. I might even be able to integrate Alphamoon into my H2 With Sprinkles campaign mod if possible
I wanna see more mods on the original halo 2 graphics... Halo 2 anniversary is very beautiful too

Does this take place on the Moon Basis ? And are the destroyed sections parts of the Halo Ring which crash landed ?
Yep, that's the idea behind it. According to the digsite team, claims that Quarantine Zone re-uses alphamoon's geometry are exaggerated, with it mostly being scenery as opposed to the layout. I made this mod waaaay before this info came out, eventually I'm gonna make a whole campaign mod about a UNSC-Heretic alliance against the Covenant

Nice, proto Halo mods! Isn’t it weird how rare they are, specially when HCE has loads of material to work with? The The Heretic vehicles need attention from an artist, they don’t look good. The Excavator would probably work better with the Hunter cannon.
Yeah, I'm not too experienced with texture editing but I gave the Heretic vehicles my best attempt, I'd be more than open for help with those. I gave the excavator shadows hunter cannons at first but they were boring as hell compared to the terror that is the death ray
