The History of The Muppets (Part 8) | Animation Lookback
#Muppets #MuppetsHauntedMansion #MuppetsMayhem - Фільми й анімація
If I had a nickel for every time Kermit the Frog’s puppeteer had their final performances in Walt Disney World, I’d have two nickels...which isn’t a lot, but it sure is weird that it’s happened twice.
Glad you mentioned Kermit's appearance on The Masked Singer. One of the best reveals on the show yet!
That was very shocking.
I feel sad he got eliminated, oh well that show isn't doing too well on Fox
Never thought Kermit the frog would show up on the show but he gave us the greatest reveal ever. The Muppets were coming back strong.
We've reached the Disney+ era of the Muppets.
Also known as Streaming Mayhem
Too bad that this era started off rough, especially when the pandemic screwed over with the muppet performers staying at home and many assistants were sadly laid off due to the economic crisis between 2020 to 2021
Steve never should have been fired. Matts just isn't the same. He's OK at times though.
Steve being replaced as Kermit with Matt taking over was big news when it was fresh not too long ago Matt does a good job but for many fans Steve's performance was the version of the frog after Jim's passing and won't be forgotten about anytime soon. Muppets haunted mansion has become a Halloween tradition like the ride itself and unlike the reboot everyone forgot about happened it's the best adaptation of the ride and seeing Ed Asner as a ghost hits diffently then originally intended. The Muppets are back and The Muppet verse is getting started.
I hate that Disney canceled The Mayhem! I wanted to see more of Lips and learn his backstory!
Yeah, Lips's backstory would've been very interesting! Because first of all, he didn't join the Electric Mayhem until the fifth season of The Muppet Show. And secondly, until The Muppets Mayhem, he was such an obscure character that only die hard Muppet fans knew about, which makes it ironic that Lips now has connections with various celebrities.
Fun 🤩 Fact: Matt Vogel preformed Robin the Frog from 2008 to 2016 but then Peter Linz took over as Robin in 2017 when Matt Vogel took over as the performer of Kermit the Frog
I think it’s worth mentioning that Kermit and Fozzie both appear in the Schoolhouse Rock 50th Anniversary Special
Oh yeah, that happened last year
And the “Unpack Your Adjectives” cover by Kermit was the only good song in that special. That says something.
Mayhem was the best thing Muppets have done since 2011. Hope even though it isn’t getting a season 2 it’ll inspire a few more shows like it. Maybe a Muppet Labs show or something else.
In addition to the show itself being pretty good, the best thing they accomplished was making Lips a full character with a personality.
It’s great to see the muppets making some good comebacks during the Disney plus era even if unfortunately muppet mayhem was short lived. I can’t wait to see you talk about muppet vision 3D for the Honorable mention
I don't know what the heck Disney was thinking canceling Muppet Mayhew.
It made a reference to Meet the febbles. That's awesome.
And basically confirmed Meet the Feebles is set in the same universe as The Muppets.
@hunterolaughlin
I hope one day Peter Jackson gets to remaster Meet the febbles.
Yep. Disney are evil
I actually feel sorry for what Steve Whitmire had to go through
My respect goes to Steve Whitmire.
@@chrisbarone515yeah I’ve always stuck with Steve. What Disney and Henson did to him was just shameful and disgraceful. I wish he was still with The Muppets
@@brockpifer9929 JUSTICE FOR STEVIE WHITMIRE!
Eventually, Steve managed to picked himself again now that he's back living in Atlanta, Georgia. He created the UA-cam channel Cave In and started making appearances at galaxy con to MOMO Con in the east coast
We're almost at the end. This was a fun journey
The Disney+ era for the Muppets.
No Surprise the Muppets Haunted Mansion was dedicated to Ed Asner!
It's sad he never got to see the specail before his passing. Rest In peace Ed your spirit lives on literally in the specail.
We've now made it to the most recent era of Muppets history, where the Muppets try to take their shenanigans into new territory with Disney+, where they try their take on a popular Disneyland attraction with the Haunted Mansion, and rock on with some mayhem. That said, though, the Muppets have come across a tough new challenge, with Kermit getting a new performer after the ABC series got cancelled (personally, while I mean no disrespect to Matt Vogel at all, I feel his Kermit portrayal just doesn't work in most departments, and also, I consider it a MASSIVE dishonor to Jim Henson that they fired Steve Whitmire, since he knew Jim on a personal level, and therefore knew how to do Kermit well). In any case, his could be a tough era for the beloved performers, and who knows what shenanigans they get into in the future.
However, regardless of how these new Muppet shows do, and what the future of these characters may be, there's no denying that Kermit, Fozzie, Ms. Piggy, Gonzo, Rowlf, Animal, and the rest of the beloved Muppets have left behind a tremendous legacy, where they've entertained millions around the world with their many shows, movies, short films, etc., and became all-star entertainers in their own right, all thanks to Jim Henson and the rest of his crew who've worked hard to make that vision a reality. So with that, thank you, Jim Henson, and everyone else, for this incredible Muppet journey. In fact, one might say that "they've done just what they set out to do, thanks to the lovers, the dreamers...and you!"
Edit: It seems this wasn't the final part of our story like I first thought. We've got one more part to go before it's finally done. See you all then.
Despite some of the Ups and Downs The Muppets had in recent Years, they are still groovy
Does anyone else wish The Owl House had an episode where Gonzo voices an unexplainable demon who has a heart to heart with King about not knowing where he came from, or something? BTW, Matt, are you planning on doing Disney TV Animation someday? It'll be cool to hear you talk about certain shows.
I find Stevie Whitmire to be the best voice of Kermit.
Same here
I think it's Jim
Muppets Haunted Mansion is still the best Haunted Mansion adaptation!
Really goes to show that the 2021 Haunted Mansion is much better than the 2003 film or 2023 reboot
I'm still getting used to Matt Vogel as Kermit tbh
to me personally, he still kind of sounds like Constantine
You think so?
Possibly doing a little better at hiding his Russian accent while pretending to be Kermit?
@@tedgruver7618 Maybe
I don't hear it
And now the end is near
Great job, Mat Brunet. I'll be waiting for the honourable mentions. In which is about the theme park stuff, including the ride, Muppet-Vision 3D. ❤❤❤❤
I knew it. The honourable mention for Animation Lookback: The Muppets is Muppet Vision 3D.
It was pretty obvious
Still exciting though
Steve Whitmire🐸) The feeling of Muppets Most Wanted coming to life with Matt Vogel / Constantine playing Kermit is absolutely surreal! (Even now, I'm still trying to get used to it...🤯) And no matter how much Disney tried to destroy his reputation, it will never take away Steve Whitmire's place as one of the greatest puppeteers of all time, for his dedication and the heart he brings to his characters like Kermit, Rizzo, Ernie and Wembley! Thank you, Steve Whitmire, for all you have done!
Muppets Haunted Mansion👻) I'll admit I didn't have high expectations, but I was shocked by how much I would love this! The story is the right balance of scary and funny, it has amazing art direction, costumes and special effects, great celebrity cameos, and this is my favorite Muppet soundtrack since Most Wanted! Definitely the best Haunted Mansion adaptation!
The Muppets Mayhem🎶) My opinion is very similar to yours, The Electric Mayhem is great as always, some of the episodes were very funny (My favorites were Episodes 5 and 7), and the songs were really good, but the human characters almost ruined the whole series for me! (Especially Lilly Singh as Nora...😾) It'll be interesting to see what comes next in this Muppet-Verse?🤔
Can't wait to watch Part 9, since it's going to be on MuppetVision 3D, and it'll be cool to finally see what you filmed during your Disney World vacation!🏰
❤️💖 Finally! The History of The Muppets Part 8 has finally reached and finally released! 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️
We just had to wait but the show Animat put on was worth it. 😊 📹 🐸
Now I know why Steve Whitmire was fired after preforming and voicing Kermit the Frog for 27 years
Muppets Live Another Day was to supposed to be something for Disney plus that would be a continuation of The Muppets Take Manhattan but it got scrapped
Just thinking out loud about the two Muppet-related projects during the early 2020s, how interesting would it have been if these two were made in alternate timelines?
With ‘Muppets Haunted Mansion’, sounded like a much better film the puppeteering team could’ve done for Jim Henson Pictures instead of ‘Muppets from Space’ back in 1999 after the cancellation of Kirk Thatcher’s ‘Muppets Tonight’. Furthermore, that potential Halloween Muppet movie would’ve also swapped release dates with ‘The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland’ during that time. It would lead to that potential ‘Bear in the Big Blue House’ feature film before Lynne Thigphen’s 2003 passing.
As for ‘The Muppets Mayhem’, if it was ever planned as a movie instead of a series, that project would’ve felt like the perfect substitute for 2018 rather than ‘The Happytime Murders’ after the financial disappointment of 2014’s ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ and ABC’s 2015 short-lived series with the prominent characters. If that had happened, we would hear the production of a ‘Fraggle Rock’ movie moving forward.
Again, these are just thoughts. Speaking of the latter series above, from what information I’ve heard about its approach, I can actually see the same thing happening with that ‘Fraggle Rock' reboot, as a series with a linear storyline. Taking which, who’s feeling optimistic about the second season streaming two days before Easter?
I would say the late 2010s to the 2020s has so far been the most mixed time in the muppets franchise while yeah there was the release of the muppet babies reboot which is arguably one of the most successful muppet projects to come out of Disney’s acquisition of the franchise second only to the 2011 film, but then again it did have its rocky moments like Steve Whitmire being fired by Disney now I do see Steve’s side of the argument plus I do think his Kermit voice was very nostalgic for many muppet fans tho tbh I have actually gotten used to Matt Vogels performance as Kermit and would even say he is a worthy successor for the character. I do also like how we have gotten better muppet projects like with muppets haunted mansion which in my opinion is now in the same footsteps as the muppets Christmas carol where many fans of the original consider it the best adaptation of the ride and muppets mayhem while yeah it does have a couple of problems like its incredibly bland and unlikeable human characters but the things muppets mayhem does right it does incredibly right! Like giving the electric mayhem character arcs and personalities and several callbacks to previous muppet shows and movies, so yeah I would personally say that after seeing the last two muppet projects are definitely the steps in the right direction and I can’t believe this muppet looksback is nearly over it’s been an incredible journey looking back at several key moments in the history of muppets! I’m glad to have seen this journey from beginning to end!
I just think it's funny that The Muppets are the only ones at Disney who understood the assignment of bringing The Haunted Mansion on the big screen. (Or Disney Plus exclusive halloween special, but you know what I mean.)
Oh, the irony. Also, if this was made for Jim Henson Pictures instead of 'Muppets from Space' and swapped release dates with 'The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland' in 1999, we would have had that 'Bear in the Big Blue House' made before Luna the Moon's voice actor Lynne Thigphen passed away in 2003.
10 years from now The Muppets Haunted Mansion will still be talked about and celebrated as the definitive adaptation of the attraction while the 2003 and recent one from last year will be like the one relative you don’t want to acknowledge or invite to family gatherings.
@@hunterolaughlinand Crimson Peak.
Still think they should either get Steve Whitmire back or get someone else since Matt Vogel can’t pull off a good Kermit voice for long…
What makes you think Disney will take back what they said?
26:38 - Pretty much, the human characters felt out of place and almost one dimensional, but the actors are not to blame either. I blame more onto the executives
I can’t wait for the grand finale of this awesome lookback
We already know what the honorable mention is, it’s obviously muppet vision 3D
yall are scared over fozzie having teeth when walter is literally right there 😭
I know I’ve said this before on the original version of the video on your Patreon account before you deleted it, but I still feel like this is something worth giving my own personal thoughts to regarding this subject. But I still am having a hard time getting fully accustomed to Matt Vogel’s performance as Kermit and Steve no longer being the primary puppeteer. While I have no beef with Matt as I know he is a talented Muppeteer and has done a good performance with other characters like the late Jerry Nelson’s Count Von Count, I really do feel like Steve really was the best Kermit after Jim Henson’s passing. Not just in puppeteering and taking up the character, but also in keeping the spirit of Kermit alive in both his mannerisms and especially his voice. When you listen to Steve’s voice in comparison to Jim’s, it’s amazing how he manages to have Kermit still sound the same almost as if there’s no difference and still gives the illusion we’re hearing and seeing Kermit and not just a replacement. No doubt, over nearly 3 centuries of puppeteering and voicing the character, Steve really was Kermit, not just to us kids who grew up with his version, but in spirit as well and it’s just going to be hard to top that, which why it’s harder to get accustomed to Matt Vogel’s current performance or be convinced it’s still the same character especially when Vogel’s voice is jarringly different from Steve’s and really makes the replacement all the more OBVIOUS. So overall, while I do appreciate Matt taking up the character and doing his best to keep the character alive, he’s just not as good as Steve Whitmire.
Steve was Kermit the frog for so many after Jim henson's passing and kept his spirit and voice going strong staying true to Jim's performce. Matt is getting the hang of playing the world famous frog but Steve's run as the character isn't going to forgotten anytime soon.
9:14, Its Ironically funny these are the only times we get to see The Muppets somewhat crossover in Big City Greens and Amphibia
This series has been more than a year in the making! What better way to celebrate my B day!
Love the video, I love this video series and the Muppets. The Haunted Mansion is always better with Gonzo and the Muppets
I wish for the Honorable Mention you would include Fraggle Rock cause it’s like what you did in HB Lookback
Now I’ll been waiting for 9th and final part of Animation Lookback: The Muppets
animal being a fan of kojima is the best muppets thing of the decade imo
I think it sucks that Steve Whitmire got fired at the same time Fozzie and Kermit voicing acting was great and honestly I'd like to see more of them do that in the future regretably I haven't see the haunted mansion yet but its on my list
Good content as always dude.
Love Muppets Haunted Mansion, seen it more than once.
Would be cool if they made a Muppet's Nutcracker.
Millie Bobby Brown plays Clara and Gonzo plays Herr Droyselmeyer. The guy who played Eli (Hawk) should play the Nutcracker Prince/Droyselmeyer's apprentice. Pepe plays Fritz. Miss Piggy as the Sugerplum Fairy. Kermit as Captain of the Toy Soldiers. Adam Driver as the Mouse King. Winoa Ryder plays the Mouse Queen.
THE HYPE IS ON!!!
Rizzo should have gone to Peter Linz as well
Welcome back, AniMat.
Been dying for this!!! So excited to watch! This series has been my comfort during uni and life ❤❤
2:19 really disney wow how rude disney I could be wrong
Wait a minute... The Muppets _actually_ acknowledged The Feebles by implying they live in the same universe?
*WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME?!*
Well we are near the end. The only question remains, what will be the next Lookback after Animat does the honorable mentions?
Maybe Nickelodeon?
Seems likely.
I would love to see animat do an animation lookback on Blue Sky Studios
Maybe. But I don’t think Animat is in the mood to talking about the making of the Ice Age sequels.
@@Starwarsfanboy0928Well, he talked about Cars 2 in his Animation Lookback on Pixar, he talked about Monkeybone in his Animation Lookback on stop-motion, he talked about Tales from Earth Sea in his Animation Lookback on Studio Ghibli, he talked about Shrek the Third and Shark Tale in his Animation Lookback on Dreamworks, and of course, he talked about The Black Cauldron, Home on the Range and Chicken Little (Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen II if you’re on the side that thinks those films destroy the world building and main character’s relationships and arcs from the previous films) twice in his old and updated Animation Lookback on Walt Disney Animation Studios. So if he can get through discussing the production histories of those films, he can easily get through the Ice Age sequels in an Animation Lookback on Blue Sky Studios.
This is what I call a great penultimate episode of this series.
It ture what they say, everyone loves The Muppets
History on muppet vision 3D might be next
Rip clifford😎
It's been said that even the greatest fans & defenders of post-Henson Muppet material (myself included) won't deny that Jim Henson's passing was definitely a huge loss to the franchise and that it still has never truly recovered from it. That said, there's still quite a few Muppet projects after Henson's death that have become beloved (arguably even more than one realizes).
Aside from "Muppets From Space", all the post-Henson theatrical Muppet movies have been well-received by critics & beloved by fans. In terms of TV specials, both "The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson" and "The Muppets Haunted Mansion" have been both highly-regarded by fans. There's also the Muppet Viral Videos (which have played a major role in revitalizing The Muppets, with videos like Beaker's Ode to Joy & the Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody). And both "The Muppets Mayhem" and the new "Muppet Babies" series have been well-liked, too!
Not all post-Henson Muppet projects have been hits, but I think Jim would've been very proud of all those post-Henson Muppet projects I just mentioned! 😊
Even Jim would be proud of the 2011 feature where they got their biggest box office hit and get the crown of the highest-grossing puppet film of all time and also winning an Oscar for Man or Muppet and their newest member Walter in getting a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
You know, now that we're reaching the end, I sometimes wonder what the next Animation Lookback will be.
I am torn between whether Nickelodeon or Sony Animation is up next.
Maybe Marvel Studios Animation
I have my doubts on either options.
My guess that it will be DreamWorks Animation+
You did made it to present day
Ironically, Kermit's latinoamerican voice was also involved in a couple of problems over the direction of Disney Character Voices International.
After his departure, major changes were made, such as the return of the original Woody actor to the company as well as part of the original cast of The Simpsons.
A similar situation to Steve whitmire
I’m Mexican and I can say that, similar to Steve Whitmire, Raul Aldana was the best dubbing actor for Kermit in Latin American Spanish. His performance was like a mix of Steve and Jim Henson. It’s sad that they both had problems with the studios they were working for and wouldn’t do what they wanted. And Like Matt Vogel, Luis Leonardo Suarez, Kermit’s new dubbing actor, is gonna take me a while to get used to. They’re not bad actors and I wish them good luck, it’s just that Steve and Raul’s voices are so nostalgic.
Good job Mat, I can't wait for the next (and probably last) part of this Animation Lookback.
I wonder what will be next for Animation Lookback?
Will you cover the history of Nickelodeon?
D.I.C. Entertainment?
Maybe an update on Animation Lookback: The History of Dreamworks Animation considering that this year marks the 30th Anniversary of Dreamworks Animation itself?
Who knows, but like you always say in your reviews..."Let's find out".
Also keep up the good work!
I was honestly wanting Aninat to do an animation look back on online animation. Maybe doing similar to the animation look back on stop motion.
One part can be on glitch productions
Another part can be on Vivziepop
Another another part can be on Lackadaisy
Etc.
I’m not sure 🤔 what video series is gonna be next after Animation Lookback: The Muppets, maybe 🤔 an update version DreamWotks Animation+, Disney Television Animation, Nicktoons, or what?
I’d imagine Animation Lookback: Pixar Animation Studios +, but most of all those snappy closing lines that reference the movies he’s talking about.
I'm gonna be shock if he did either Blue Sky, Illumination, or Sony Pictures Animation for his next Lookback.
@@anthonypena5046I would like a look back to Power Rangers
I thought the exact same thing with Kermit’s new voice I thought it’s basically just Constantine doing his best Kermit voice again

I hope at some point they can bring all the Muppet content to Disney+ Mexico.
Here we are missing the original show, 4 movies and the original Muppet Babies series
0:02 the muppets into the muppet-verse
Now to the most recent era
After muppets history, can do the history of Nickelodeon animation in animation look back?
Honestly, I am not really a fan of Vogel's take on Kermit. It could be nostalgia, but I think letting Whitmire go was not the best decision.
I for one stand with Steve Whitmire.
Yeah it truly was not at all a good decision. This is truly the faults of the executives of not listening to the performers about the characters and their personalities. And I’m sad it went far back when Henson still owned The Muppets and that Brian originally had the idea of firing him. Now like Steve said, the problems could have been easily resolved if it wasn’t for the execs being so damn ignorant and wanting to do things their way
I wonder what your next Animation Lookback will be on? I think a lookback on the animated TV series' from Disney would be truly awesome! I'd love to see how well you apply your knowledge to 101 Dalmatians: The Series and 101 Dalmatian Street!
10:15 I could see Muppet fans booing that decision
And then Gonzo appeared at the 2023 game awards.
16:26- They built a new Muppet for Gauzey, right? Otherwise, that’s just Fozzie Bear with what I assume are foam teeth.
hey man when you're done with the muppets could you do "the lion king 2 simba's pride" i realy want to hear your opinion on that one
Now that it's fixing to be curtains for The History of The Muppets, what's the next Animation Lookback episode?

Awesome birthday gift!
You deserve to be a cast member of the muppets (with that muppet version of you).
9:14 Holy shit!
Why is they not dub any anime characters yet? ;)
This was a pretty good look at the history of the Muppets. There were even some facts about the Muppets even I never knew about until I watched this series. Very well done!
If you ever plan to do another history series, maybe next year you could talk about the history of _Thomas & Friends_ since it'll be the 80th anniversary of the Railway Series.
Or power rangers
Peter Jackson didn’t even spoil the Feebles ending, which was nice.
Awesome part for the Muppets history and we’re almost to the end.
Say, Animat, did you hear that the Muppets have appeared on the mobile game, Disney Magic Kingdoms? And if you have, will you include that on the last part of your Muppets documentary?
Next episode of animation lookback: the updated history of stop motion
My greatest dream is to someday be a celebrity cameo in a Muppet property
I'm guessing that Dinosaurs will be the honorable mention!
No, it’s MuppetVision 3D.
I hope he does Muppets Inside for the finale

God, they mistreated Steve Whitmire the same way they mistreated Robin Williams with his Genie character from the Aladdin series. No wonder why they received backlash after replacing him with Homer Simpson.
I hate to ask, but why are all the Muppets in the Game Awards. They haven’t had a game in years, so like why include them. Wouldn’t it makes sense if the Henson Company created puppets of Video Game Characters, like they did with Star Fox?
What are they there just to tease a new Muppets game.
