These boat people are now developers and landlords of the massive Kowloon West district !

I truly believe the purpose of the whole thing was to help the Tanka. The background is there were two serious typhoons at 1960s and many boats were destroyed as well.
However, this generous offer also cut off the legit claim of hundred years stateless Tanka lose their claims to UK citizenship as they born and lived in British Boats (yes, until 1991 all boats in Hongkong are UK vessels). If their born right was well explained I wonder if they would hesitate to move to land.
Btw, Most Tanka did move to land and communists later did send some “later arrived Tanka” to represent indigenous Tanka and make riot eventually forced the government to enact the most shitty law in Hong Kong so that till today they can still claim that law was enacted by British government.

insurance criminal still very active today, u never understand life and serious illness insurance need to increase price in hongkong every year. Ten yrs ago i saw a whisterblower shows a whole month claim all claimants are from one place outside hongkong, claims size over millions and still approve as long as claimant not local.
