Here's an ironic thing. There was a developer many years ago named Lloyd Hines. AFAIK, the land that these subdivisions are situated on was acquired by Hines (possibly in partnership with other developers) many years ago for future development. He died in 1991 when it was still raw land, so he wasn't actually involved in its development. He built a mansion in a corner of one of the subdivisions he did develop off of East Northern Lights. That mansion was demolished in 2006 because people with that kind of money were only interested in new construction on the Hillside, such as in subdivisions like these.

Holy crap, I live in Fairview and it makes you realize how there can be a ghetto that has a higher crime rate than Chicago then 20 miles down a perfect neighborhood with mansions every 20 ft.

This is up where the winds are probably gusting to 75 mph today. I wonder how that is going. Also if your house catches fire in the winter just watch it burn because by the time the fire trucks get there it will be gone anyway. It is getting so that their a nice houses like this in the Mat Su and you actually can get a few acres with it. Also nice views there. If you work near downtown the commute time isn’t much different.

Hi Jeanne, thank you. These two neighborhoods are on the "hillside" of South Anchorage. Still within the city limits. Just that they're on the mountain s!

Yeah, buildings in Anchorage are generally non-descript. There is an architect named William Merriman who has some nice designs. Unfortunately, construction costs in AK are high and there aren't enough ultra-high net worth people to get big projects done. I'm from Illinois too. Wealthy suburban Anchorage is probably most similar to something like South Barrington, but SB still is more opulent and more detailed architecture, even though still low quality.

If you could see the views of Cook Inlet Volcanoes (Mt Redoubt) to the Alaskan Range past Mt Susitna (Sleeping Lady) on to Denali (Mt Mckinley) , you would probably change your mind. I lived in the the lower Burb Goldenview, some of the most phenomenal sunsets, and views anywhere . I guarantee no where in Illinois comes close. Yeah it's winter, try watching a sunset at 11:30pm in June from your hot-tub then give me your opinion. I commented before I finished the video. @8:59 they entered my Hood of Goldenview. No the housing was nothing "spectacular", but the VIEW was a million dollars

@@ditryn The OP was referring to the houses rather than any scenic views. However, the Chicagoland area is home to very scenic vistas along Lake Michigan, Fox River Valley, Chicago Hunt Country/Barrington area, and many other locations.

@@thesoundofthesuburbs I agree there is no "Beverly Hills" of Alaska, but I have to defend the views of Cook Inlet, Alaska Range and Denali. When I can look out my window and see Mt McKinley that is priceless. The houses are in the 1/2 mill price range and up. Are the houses really worth it, probably not. But the quality of life....

Not in Anchorage Alaska! I live here and have for 26 yrs. This area he's filming is the top of line in Anchorage. Those are a million +$$ homes over looking the bluff. Anchorage is very lacking in architecture! We have no big beautiful old churches, there are only a handful of homes from the 20's to the 40's I'm talking 5! most homes were made from the 60's to today. This is the best Anchorage has to offer.

@@ellenmarie36ak1 I see. You know it is kind of nice to me to not live near heavily urban areas. I like the peace and quiet and nature. I live in Colorado and our house is near a lot of amenities but the flip side of that it is too congested with people and smog. I would have rather preferred to live in our house when we lived in North Texas. It may have been not as big but I loved the peace and quiet and not having the back of your backyard neighbored by apartments 🤮

Buddy, just take note that this is Anchorage. It’s not as a big place like Los Angeles or New York. In Anchorage, everyone calls these hills “Beverly Hills” because of the houses are 10x expensive then just a normal house down by the city. As an Anchorage resident, it’s really beautiful due to the scenery that you can get when you’re on top of the hills.
