What a special day out with your older boys. I used to love the mall and could wander around for hours. Now a days I can’t remember the last time I went to the mall.

Where I live the kids have school uniforms and track suits. And we have small shopping centres. Loved watching this , we would normally go to the city and a lots of those shops are on the street.

Growing up in Glennallen in the 80's the highlight of our monthly grocery trips to Anchorage was Diamond Center... I have so much nostalgia around that ice skating rink area. I wish you'd filmed more there. If you're going to go all the way to Anchorage. You've got to stop by the mall! What's funny is it looks healthier than a lot of the malls down here in the lower 48. Glad to see that!
Grew up in anchorage. Ice skating for hours and then hitting the hallways of diamond center! There was Northway mall, University mall, Dimond mall, 5th avenue mall, Sears mall at Benson and northern lights, little shimeks' mall. Fun times! Most all gone.

I haven’t been to the mall in probably 2-3 years. I hate shopping, I order as much as I can online. I also have a little girl with sensory processing disorder and she can’t handle crowds, noise etc so we just don’t go a lot of places.

I lived off Cardova and 13th. Working on aviation. I miss Alaska, pretty much lived there since 2008 worked in Proudoe bay and other places.
Hello and thank you for showing actually what the mall looks like. I was on a trip to adventure Alaska in Sept. I almost going to this mall by taking the bus southbound from Arctic Blvd. near 36th Avenue. I ended up going to the iconic Jens Restaurant before going to Chugach hiking trail in the afternoon. I loved the area so much its Midtown and the Freshest air coming from the Arctic Ocean and its always sales tax free. I must say that this Anchorage-Barrow trip was the best adventure experience of my whole life.
I was raised in Alaska, and left about 8 years ago. I live in California now, but really appreciate this video. It's totally nostalgic to me, and with many malls closing, it's nice to see that this one still seems to be bustling with business.

Thanks! We end up at a mall a couple of times a month. I know I mentioned my special needs son Nate, well he loves the mall to people watch and eat at the food court. My kids (twins) are 16 and my daughter Rylie’s favorite store is Zumiez with Hot Topic second. And don’t the kids feet seem to grow first? One summer Rylie’s feet went up three sizes and thankfully she really liked flip flops at the time. At 16 their feet seem to have stopped growing but Rylie wears the same sized shoe as me so she takes mine a lot.

I live in Tampa, FL and we go to the mall occasionally but we also have outlet malls that we'll go to too. But most of our shopping is done at Walmart and once in a while we shop at Target 🎯. Anchorage looks like a real cool city and I hope one day to be fortunate enough to visit!!!!
It sure had changed since I used to go there all the time in the late 80s. I was stationed at Elmendorf and went there all the time. Back then most of the floors were carpeted too. Glad they still have the ice rink too!

I hardly go to the mall myself! I have 4 kiddos too and hate taking all of them shopping!! They range in age from 3-16 so it gets crazy!! I like to try and do one on one shopping if I can!!

I love the mall especially during Christmas season. I go to the mail every other month. You have some of my favorite places to shop and eat. Do you have a Marshall’s, Burlington and a TJ Max there. I love those store as well much cheaper then other department stores. I’m am so scared to try sushi.🤢.
I can't say I go to the mall that often these days...maybe a few times per year. It was more of a hang out spot when I was a teenager. I do like the mall during the holidays when it is decorated.
Since my girls are grown now, I don't go to the mall as much as we used to. I go maybe 3 or 4 times a year and it's usually with them around birthday time or a holiday. I do most of my shopping at TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Amazon or boutique shopping. I shop for most of my clothing at online boutiques. I also shop Target and WalMart.

We only have 2 malls in my city of Kansas City. They are 45 minutes in each direction from me so I rarely go unless there’s something specific I need. We have tons of small shopping areas. Developers in the Lower 48 decided Americans don’t like malls and stopped building them and tore them down for park and shop strip malls.
The store with all the puzzles was fantastic! Yesterday, I was talking with a coworker who is from Wasilla and she told me they just got a Costco there, so that's cool. I might go to the mall every 4 years or so, lol. 😀 I have been wanting to go for a while because the one about 45 minutes away has a large Asian grocery store at the end and my favorite Japanese grocery store is not far from there, either. I might make it by the end of the year. 🤣
That is a problem when it comes to the mall, spend the money. LOL Before Olive Garden came to Alaska I felt like I always had to go there when I visited the lower 48, now that we have it we don't ever go. Once every couple of years. HAHA

We were actually going to compete the past couple of years at the Vermont fair but the contest was cancelled because of the virus and now we're both too old. @@jameswilliams3806 So much fun! We participated several times and had a great experience. Unfortunately, our son won and then didn't get to go to the finals because of Covid. Our other son DID get to go to the finals and it was a blast. They have lots of fun activities to do all around NYC and it was just a fantastic experience. We love their mission of encouraging kids to be active and get their shoes dirty!
My kids love to shop we go to large and small malls a few times a month depends on the month and season. Both my kids have sensory processing disorder and sensitivity so we tend to pick a weekday early in the morning when it's empty. Just something to do. I’m one of those people that don’t like sushi but I go with my work group and have chicken, rice shrimp ribs and steak. I’m an imposter!!! Lol but love all the other foods offered.
Your mall is definitely way better than our local mall which is about 20 mins away. There really isn't much left at ours. We can drive about an hour either north or south and have a much better selection of malls. I haven't been to the mall in about a year. I just tend to shop online there is a better selection. If I do go to the mall I go to Bath and Body Works. I love their Wallflowers.
@@ThisAlaskaLife they are the plug ins that they have that are like Glade. Just a little fancier. They have really cute plugs and some really good scents especially around the fall and winter. Yes I like to shop at Target also every once in a while also.
All malls are struggling because of on line business's. They just took the first covered mall in USA down in N. Seattle called Northgate mostly for a practice Hockey place. And years ago took down our smaller childhood mall for Costco and Home Depot, very sad. But because I can barely walk I never go to them although I do miss Cinnamon.😄
Hi Friends, I thought ld be in the minority hating the Mall, reading the comments clearly not!! We go only when absolutely necessary and when we do it's in and out just going to the store we need something from, l hate shopping (unless it's Costco can roam for hrs there). It's funny to hear people say they are "saving for a baby" that baby becomes quite expensive as they get older!!! The day out looked so much fun, you made it such a special treat and the Japanese Restaurant a perfect ending to the day🍜🍱
It does seem like the majority are not mall goers. I could roam Costco too! I really have hit a spot in my life where I don’t do many shopping trips just to wander, I have a specific mission! The sushi is so good, makes me hungry watching all the footage.

I do not like going to the mall! My Mom's opthalmologist is attached to the mall so I've had to go recently. I stepped inside the mall only to hit Starbucks & Chick Fil A. Alot of the stores are also closed here too! I'm a sushi fanatic! I could eat it everyday if I could! 🍣🍜🥢 Glad your boys had a good time.
I rarely go to a mall or closest mall has slowly been dying it’s pretty much dead now the one over in Meadville they tore down the middle medical centers gonna put something in there
I think most malls are dying a slow death. This one was actually in better shape than I thought it was going to be, I think they have been trying hard to revitalize it. Much nicer bathrooms and a few bigger stores have helped it stay alive. I think more people go there in the winter as somewhere to walk around out of the snow! Thanks for watching!
@@ThisAlaskaLife we have european Brands (clothes) also the Body Shop, Game Stop etc. In the big City near my place (30mins drive) I live in a small Farmer village with around 219 ppl. So we only have a small grocery store around 1,5 miles from my apartment.
I wish there was a BookOff here. There is such a HIGH demand for manga these days and there isn't really a good place to find any aside from Barnes & Noble and Bosco's. But even then it's all in English. There's NOWHERE in the state to buy books in Japanese.
it has been quite a while since I have been to a mall of that size -- probably 5 - 10 years -- we do have a few smaller sized malls that I maybe go to about once a year. I do most of my shopping at what we call locally 'strip malls' ...which are a group of about 5 - 10 stores lined up next to each other but you enter from the outdoors. The Calendar store just opened up at one of them -- it is a seasonal store and usually opens up around now and will close again in January...it is definitely a fun place to look -- but I usually buy my calendars at the dollar store (I realize that you don't have those there). And I love Sushi!! In fact, just watched a video from another youtuber (Auburn Huhmann) She spent her summer with Adam and Sherry Legg (LeggLife) and did a video on her top 5 sushi places in Anchorage and Ronnie 1 was on the list -- it may have even been her favorite!

I do not think I have been to a mall in the UK since before Covide19. There is not one in the town where I live so I would have to travel about 15 miles to either of the two nearest towns, and it just does not appeal at the moment.
we dont have a mall in my early 20s i works for bullocks ( bought out by macys) but as a kid went maybe 3 4 yimes a year but nvr shopped n i havent been in one since um 2012 went to dicks fir softball stuff lok

I really was so relaxed just having the older two. It was a strange feeling to only have them after a year of complete chaos homeschooling all 4.

only costcos that are in Alaska is 2 in anchorage, 1 each in fairbanks and Juneau. no matsu Valley costco.

That is a problem when it comes to the mall, spend the money. LOL Before Olive Garden came to Alaska I felt like I always had to go there when I visited the lower 48, now that we have it we don't ever go. Once every couple of years. HAHA

We were actually going to compete the past couple of years at the Vermont fair but the contest was cancelled because of the virus and now we're both too old. I was just wondering what the contest experience was like? 😄
@@jameswilliams3806 So much fun! We participated several times and had a great experience. Unfortunately, our son won and then didn't get to go to the finals because of Covid. Our other son DID get to go to the finals and it was a blast. They have lots of fun activities to do all around NYC and it was just a fantastic experience. We love their mission of encouraging kids to be active and get their shoes dirty!
My kids love to shop we go to large and small malls a few times a month depends on the month and season. Both my kids have sensory processing disorder and sensitivity so we tend to pick a weekday early in the morning when it's empty. Just something to do. Thanks for showing us the mall I was curious what it looked like.

I’m one of those people that don’t like sushi but I go with my work group and have chicken, rice shrimp ribs and steak. I’m an imposter!!! Lol but love all the other foods offered.

Your mall is definitely way better than our local mall which is about 20 mins away. There really isn't much left at ours. We can drive about an hour either north or south and have a much better selection of malls. I haven't been to the mall in about a year. I just tend to shop online there is a better selection. If I do go to the mall I go to Bath and Body Works. I love their Wallflowers.

@@ThisAlaskaLife they are the plug ins that they have that are like Glade. Just a little fancier. They have really cute plugs and some really good scents especially around the fall and winter. Yes I like to shop at Target also every once in a while also.

All malls are struggling because of on line business's. They just took the first covered mall in USA down in N. Seattle called Northgate mostly for a practice Hockey place. And years ago took down our smaller childhood mall for Costco and Home Depot, very sad. But because I can barely walk I never go to them although I do miss Cinnamon.😄

We go only when absolutely necessary and when we do it's in and out just going to the store we need something from, l hate shopping (unless it's Costco can roam for hrs there). It's funny to hear people say they are "saving for a baby" that baby becomes quite expensive as they get older!!! The day out looked so much fun, you made it such a special treat and the Japanese Restaurant a perfect ending to the day🍜🍱
It does seem like the majority are not mall goers. I could roam Costco too! I really have hit a spot in my life where I don’t do many shopping trips just to wander, I have a specific mission! The sushi is so good, makes me hungry watching all the footage.

I do not like going to the mall!
My Mom's opthalmologist is attached to the mall so I've had to go recently. I stepped inside the mall only to hit Starbucks & Chick Fil A. Alot of the stores are also closed here too!

I rarely go to a mall or closest mall has slowly been dying it’s pretty much dead now the one over in Meadville they tore down the middle medical centers gonna put something in there
I think most malls are dying a slow death. This one was actually in better shape than I thought it was going to be, I think they have been trying hard to revitalize it. Much nicer bathrooms and a few bigger stores have helped it stay alive. I think more people go there in the winter as somewhere to walk around out of the snow! Thanks for watching!

@@ThisAlaskaLife we have european Brands (clothes) also the Body Shop, Game Stop etc. In the big City near my place (30mins drive) I live in a small Farmer village with around 219 ppl. So we only have a small grocery store around 1,5 miles from my apartment.
The next shopping mall is about 1,5 hours away

There is such a HIGH demand for manga these days and there isn't really a good place to find any aside from Barnes & Noble and Bosco's.
But even then it's all in English. There's NOWHERE in the state to buy books in Japanese.
it has been quite a while since I have been to a mall of that size -- probably 5 - 10 years -- we do have a few smaller sized malls that I maybe go to about once a year. I do most of my shopping at what we call locally 'strip malls' ...which are a group of about 5 - 10 stores lined up next to each other but you enter from the outdoors. The Calendar store just opened up at one of them -- it is a seasonal store and usually opens up around now and will close again in January...it is definitely a fun place to look -- but I usually buy my calendars at the dollar store (I realize that you don't have those there). And I love Sushi!! In fact, just watched a video from another youtuber (Auburn Huhmann) She spent her summer with Adam and Sherry Legg (LeggLife) and did a video on her top 5 sushi places in Anchorage and Ronnie 1 was on the list -- it may have even been her favorite!

I do not think I have been to a mall in the UK since before Covide19. There is not one in the town where I live so I would have to travel about 15 miles to either of the two nearest towns, and it just does not appeal at the moment.
