Incredible woman. 54yrs old is very young. Rip.
I'm so glad you did a video on her. She went through so much in her life. Unfortunately many forget all about her and her contributions to acting and singing. I enjoyed watching her on "Gimme a break" when I was a kid.
Me too.
i love how she sang the theme to "Gimme A Break"...especially when she says "CAUSE I SHOW NEED ONE"!!!
Absolutely!! I loved that show as a kid.
Same here I will miss nail on T v Give me a Break Sit Com
I still see that show on air TV.
She was a gorgeous woman. Full of life. She was so young.
I’ll never forget the day she died. My mother had just passed the day before and gimme a break was one of her favorite shows. It felt like I lost my mom and a auntie.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Your for your loss,Nell was real koo....They are both sorely missed 💔🙏🏿
So sorry dear!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾💙
I am sorry for ur loss
I’m sorry love. Hope you’re coping ok. I know how it feels.
Nell was extremely talented. Skilled singer, actress and had perfect comic timing. She was so versatile and funny!R.I.P
Hangin' with Mr. Cooper is still hilarious to this day!! Thank goodness it's on HBO Max!!
One of my favorite shows from childhood. The theme song is a classic too.
Gimme a Break is still a classic show to this day!!
Never heard of it
One of the few shows my mom let us watch as kids. I was 11 when it came out and 17 when it ended.
I agree Beanie Gee. It's one of my all-time favorite shows.
One of my favorites shows which I still watch today(Antenna tv) on cable & I love her RIP NELL!😥😊
@@mewesquirrel6720 SOooo and WHYYYY YOU just HAD 2 comment THAT?? LOL SMMH
Became a big fan of NELL CARTER as a kid. Late night tv playing re-runs of GIMME A BREAK was a delight. I hate that she never enjoyed her life.
She plays BJ Moore of "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper" 1993-1995
Her story is a cautionary tale. May Nell Carter rest in heavenly peace. ♥️🙏🏾😔🕊️
@@danavixen6274 yes, it is! Know the feeling.
@@Freespiritedqueen I'm glad she's being remembered.
She died five days before Dino from H-Town died RIP Nell Carter and Dino
She was the first black woman I saw on TV doing comedy. I was so happy to see someone with my skin tone that I could watch every week! 💜
What's your skin tone ?
And she was good at it. Perfect comic timing.
Hi. Are you single?
I went to the same high school as Nell Carter in Arthur Harold Parker Birmingham, Alabama. In my senior year of 1982 she came to visit the school in a fur coat in June. It didn’t matter to me or anyone else we were just excited to see an alumni like her that had done so well.
I know that was an exciting day for you all.
NELL CARTER 👸🏾❤️🌹🌷ONE OF MY LADIES OF THE 80’S!!! REMEMBERED IN PERFECTION (RIP)
I don't know why, but I often have dreams of Nell singing....to me or others. All I can say is she is always happy and is a wise mentor through her songs.🥰
Never forget that episode of Gimme a Break where Nell Carter sang with Telma Hopkins and the late Lynne Thigpen
🥰🥰🥰
Yaaassss👏🏽👏🏿👏🏾
Hold up. The mean lady from Lean On Me can sing?
@@kenyettaready 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is such a iconic moment! 😭
Sadly enough the entertainment business ruins so many lives with over indulgent be it drugs, alcohol, food or whatever. Amazing lady.
I saw Nell Carter in the Musical, Ain't Misbehaving on Broadway in New York city in the late 70s! Nell was absolutely incredible! What an an amazing vocalist she was! She was talented beyond words!! Her comedic timing was so on point! She left us too soon! RIP Nell. 💘 🙏
I loved Nell Carter, she was extremely talented and underrated. Gimme a Break was one of my favorite shows and I enjoyed the jazzy version of the theme show in the mid 80's. She was naturally funny and a great singer. I miss her outgoing personality on TV. God Bless her 😘❤
Still to this day watching " Gimme a Break " on Metv. Love the 80's
I love and miss the 80s.
I used to have a crush on her. So much talent. So much turmoil. Another awesome spotlight, Queen Narrator. 💖🙏💖
Me too!!!
OMG, what happened to her as a young woman is an absolute nightmare. And to make matters worse, she was blamed for it by her so-called "loving" church and mom! So many things I can say about this, but I'm going to refrain out of not trying to be political on this channel. But it is sad to see such an amazing and talented woman go through so much hell that she never asked for, nor did anything to deserve.
It's not political to say what we all know which is often the most deeply religious can be the most unforgiving.
@@patrick7228 The key words are "deeply religious." They weren't following the bible at all, just trying to be "self righteous" and devoid of the LOVE God says to have towards one another. God is LOVE! He also says that man looks on the outside, where as God looks at the heart of a person. Claiming "religious" means nothing if you don't show forth the attributes of God. Man says with his lips that they love God, but their hearts are far from it! That's in the Bible!
It's sexism pure and simple. Men got away with so much.
@@freddytw206 they still are
Imagine how the child she gave away felt.🥴
I remember her from Cindy, it’s a Black version of Cinderella. It’s here on UA-cam. She was one of the step sisters. It was really funny and I loved her voice. I didn’t know she went through so much in her life. May she Rest In Peace.
She was a wonderful actress and her singing voice was heavenly. Love and watch Gimma A Break to this day. Continue to rest peacefully, beautiful one. 🕊️🙏
She could SING...I watch"give me a break" just to hear HER voice...the girl had CORDS.
Thanks for telling Nel's story I remember and loved her so much. She had wonderful energy and such a beautiful voice. I loved how vibrant she was and how she never let her weight get in her way or affect her self esteem. She was a hero to all plus sized performers and she wouldn't let them put her in a box. God bless her and may she continue to rest in peace😍😍😍😍
Loved watching her show “Gimme a Break!” Back in the 80’s. Way too many demons in her life. 🌹
Sad story. Very talented woman. Her comedy talent was awesome as well as her singin’🙏🏾🙏🏾
I was shocked, when I wondered what happened to Nell and just sad when I heard
She passed, R.I.H.P Nell Carter.
Nell Carter was an entertainment icon and had such a tremendous voice. I remember watching Gimme A Break being mesmerized that this petite plus size queen showed such boldness and was an early example that big women are desirable too ( a dark skin women at that!). I loved that her character always had a man or a love interest loving up on her or pursuing her. Representation before we knew what that truly meant. I wish she’d gotten all her flowers before her untimely death.
✨🌺✨💜✨🌺✨💜✨🌺✨
im getting ready for work so in the morning i always hit "Lets get to the Root" and watch while im getting ready, but now imma go to work with tears in my eyes😠😢🙂. This is my favorite channel. Wish i had the means to constantly donate to you for this hard work you do.
Thank you so much! 🥰
I remember her character on Reba!! Love that show!!
RIP Nell Carter
Countess Vaughn could play her in a movie
RIP Nell Carter 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Always loved her especially since she reminded me of a dear friend, Mary Ann who help me with my four children and sang in church. She also had a beautiful voice. She died too but of breast cancer. We knew so little back then. May they both rest in peace 🙏🏼
Thank you for covering this today
Nell Carter was a true angel plus she was great on Give Me A Break a true artist all around.
RIP Nell
She was so talented. Sadly rather than step away or stay away from drug & alcohol she indulged and then too much to as many do dull the hurt.
She went through a lot.
I remember when she enjoyed a brief comeback when she starred on Reba as her therapist. She was hilarious.
I hope you guys do a video on ISYSS next. Such a promising group.
I'd be interested in that story too. Single For The Rest Of My Life was a very nice song from them in the early 2000s.
@@TheRetroWoman80 That song was it back in the day.
I think she played on Mr Cooper as well
Wow I was really shocked to find out what happened in Ms.Carter's life, she was one of my favorite performers and though it's been over 20yrs since she passed, when ever I watch reruns of Gimme a break, I truly marvel at her talent, We truly miss her and there never be another one like her ❤️
My goodness! How the heck and why did these so called “Christians” blame the victim of rape for being raped! What about the “so called friend”who raped her! This victim blaming is disgusting!!!
Love these stories so much
Nell Carter you were so beautiful ❤️ you are missed .
I love her voice she was a one of a kind 🔥
I really love Nell Carter was so beautiful smart & funny RIP 🙏💜🙏💜🙏💜🌹🌹🌹😇🌹😇🌹😇
Great video! I would love to see more videos on Unsung actors of the 80's & 90's. TV shows too.
That would be interesting 😁
Stay tuned! 😉
Me too.
Wow I never knew of or heard of this gorgeously talented woman. So sad that she endured so much darkness and heartbreak behind the scenes and nearly lost it all due to her drug use...💔 She was an absolute beauty, I never watched Gimme a Break because I wasn’t born when the series debuted and ran, moving sadly video overall thank you for sharing...💛 I feel for her children and son who found her collapsed on the bathroom floor.
She was so beautiful!
I missed you too rest in peace my baby Nell canter I always love you too
*I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS WOMAN!!! I've seen a lot of documentaries/& interviews about & with Nell C. however this one was by far the best one yet!!! So much talent!!! I pray her sons are doing as best as expected after all this time...Not to mention her daughter (her 1st born) I hope & pray her Aunt & family instilled positivity in her and NEVER bad mouthed Nell to her daughter...because despite her choice to LOVE her daughter enough to give her to family that she believed would love her & care 4 her the way she COULDN'T at the time...
People only see the outward looks & life that is tailored & made up to fool the EYE..We never see or hear about the TRUE Sad untold INSIDE LIFE...Until it's too late...or most people dont care or want to know but Nell, & millions of others are HURT LONELY DEPRESSED HUMANS WHO NEED LOVE UNDERSTANDING & PATIENCE... Without these WONDERFUL attributes DRUGS are the next best thing & their downfall😢😢🙏🙏
CONTINUE to rest up Nell Carter you never got your just worth and I am so sorry you had to endure all you did through out your life..God has you now..
Love Love you🤎🤎🤎🙏🙏🙏

Nell Carter also appeared on an episode of 227 back in 1989

I really loved her and I was genuinely heartbroken when she passed. Thank you for this video.
