I bought an electric golf cart and no boots touch our hunting ground for 1 month before opening day. It's truly amazing how many more mature bucks we've taken and seen since doing this! Opening week is by far the best hunting we have. Early season soybeans and no pressure is the ticket!
This is a timely video. Chestnuts are being shipped to my area based on growing zone timing. I think I will have to hold off planting near bedding areas until after killing my buck or until the spring. Great point. Great timing. Thanks guys.
Congratulations on the wedding!!!, my neighbors only use the front portion of there property, never the back, I set up food plots and stands knowing all that land is Sanctuary
I have been following your advice, currently in the 3 week waiting time now with food plots growing while I wait. I see the deer activity on cell trail cameras.
Great video Jeff! This is something I’ve always wondered or thought about… good to have a basis of time to go off of now. I have felt it’s always been at least 2 weeks, based off of camera activity when big bucks show up after you check a non cell cam (which is why I want to keep buying more cell cams). 3 weeks definitely makes sense to me and lines up with my theories as well. Thank you!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I definitely agree, because one of my buddies always questions why I am picky on hunting during bowseason. I never hunt mornings in September and if I hunt evenings, it’s always on the outskirts and don’t go to the good spots until at least mid October. Or like you said, cold fronts… it’s amazing the mature buck pics I have on the very first big cold front of the Fall. 2 years ago we had a 30 degree drop and I told my wife, I guarantee I’m going to get good buck pictures from the cell cam tonight… it was beginning of October! Sure enough… all evening and night had bucks checking a prominent licking branch/scrape… 2 of them I would’ve shot had I been hunting… but that night, was this night we had our baby boy, wouldn’t change that for the world 😊. Last year, happened again beginning of October and I wasn’t able to hunt because I also coach JH football and we had a game… a buck that I would’ve shot showed up hour before dark. Guess where I’ll be this year if that same type of pattern arises?!! 😂. I really respect your opinions and info on hunting.. I agree with most of what you do and enjoy learning from your experiences as well. Keep on with the great work!
Needed this one, Thanks Jeff love the channel. I’ve Been setting up for my daughter’s hunt this fall. Closest set I’ve ever set up to perfect. Fingers crossed.
I have 700 acres and a couple of stands I'm pushing the boundaries. I put up stands a month ago in the river bottom that a lot of bucks come from but we're not hunting those stands until the rut. We usually sit and wait for bucks to come sneaking into our other stands but this year we decided to hunt right by the doe and bucks bedrooms to catch one moving during the day ans so far on cel cams the big bucks do move in daytime in the bottom we put stands and they don't show up in our other areas until the middle of the night so hopefully this is a exciting year!!
Thanks for sharing this with us. Congrats on your Wedding. Since the original owner of our hunting place died, I've always stayed off of the property for 2-3 weeks prior to season even though we have a lot of people trespassing on it.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 no thank you. I’ve been listening to your videos for the past two years on the way to the property to work or hunt. One day I will get y’all to come down to lay it out better.
Love the informational vids. Gets my blood boiling and my well know disease (booneritis) is kicking in strong. Only short term remedy is to choot a booner. No known cure, returns yearly.
Great video. Good to no because i still have alot to do. Season starts next saturday the 27th. I plan on going to my property this wkend to try to salvage some foodplots hang a stand. And so some trimming. I dont plan to hunt there for a few wks anyhow. And congratulations on getting married
I’ve noticed anytime I’m in my land closer to bow season it takes the bucks a good week to get comfy again, doe about 2-3 days. Here in Arkansas on 300 acres of private land I just try to stay out start of September, only enter on good hunting days. Thanks for the video
Love the videos! Has helped us tremendously with mock scrapes, switch, and fall food only. How far do you think you can draw bucks with that consistent diverse fall food plots? With no one in the area of 3 or 4 sq miles doing plots. Thanks and Congratulations!
Man that's all a great recipe Kevin! As long as you have decent daylight holding cover...within 2 miles for sure when it comes to a mature buck. He moves a lot! Thank you, we really appreciate it 😊
Hoping to finish up some extra projects on the IL new farm this next week. In an area with trophy deer and they haven't started showing up frequently which seems like it will be a very good thing.
After doing some research I wanted something similar to moccasins to limit my foot print versus clunky boots. But found they get slick when wet. Actually found rubber soles socks….so far so good. YES I know it sounds crazy we will see. I can feel so much more when stepping down and I’m very silent walking. I have tried to stay out of my areas only going in once a month this summer. Something very very very different for me. Still not convinced it was a good idea to not go into during summer months. But I have always stayed out during the month prior to season opening. That has worked well for me. I screwed up and didn’t change batteries when I should have no my cell is dead I’ll have to change when I hunt the area or chance sneaking in next weekend when season opens
One of the most educational videos I’ve seen yet on whitetails. Thanks. Do you apply the 3 week rule to public land as well? Curious for checking SD cameras and doing mock scrapes.
Thanks a lot Mason! Public land is a different animal. So much competition and deer get bumped around with lots of activities, let alone hunting. I would have 3 or 4 main areas you hunt over a large area. Skipp from spot to spot and see how the fresh sign is. I would always hunt the fresh sign if I can 👍😊
Central WV here. Drought is horrible. My brassica I planted August 1st got to about 5 inches high but is now ate to the dirt and no rain in site. Looks like winter rye is coming to the rescue.
I guess I thought everyone did this. We've been 2 months (August 1st) since the mid 90's on my property in mid Michigan. We have a 120" minimum (unfortunately that's a nice buck in bay county) and we all (4) usually put one on the wall . And we don't really even hit it hard until late October/ pre rut
Depends on the location...as far as bucks go you are ok if you have at least 3 weeks of forgiveness. Labor Day was always my cutoff date in MI, for an Oct 1st opener.
I've discovered that if I use my land all the time, the deer adapt and move around me. I also live in a state with a TON of hunting pressure. The deer aren't as spooky because people and deer are always running into one another.
What about the few of us that hunt marsh lands and have water everywhere around us? I've done the vines for mock scrapes but have a ton of pressure all around
This is one of those rules that is very wishy washy! What about the working farms? Do they not hold deer for weeks? Public land with all the activity? What about all the corn feeders that get refilled every week? Do they take weeks to feel comfortable to come in? Nope on most of those.
