Released in 1981 as a companion to the TB-303 Bass Line, the TR-606 was a programmable drum machine whose size, price, and ease of use made-at-home music production more accessible to everyone. The punchy midrange kicks, popping toms, and sizzling hi-hats were a hit with DIY musicians, appearing across genres from '80s new wave and punk to all types of electronic styles.
Designed with acclaimed Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) modelling, the TR-06 reimagines the original TR-606 with new sound-crafting potential and plush onboard effects. Add to this an advanced sequencer boasting probability, step loop, and sub step, plus five trigger outs, and you have a portable drum sequencer ready to connect to and enhance your control voltage gear. I got the TR-8 and the TR-06 they work great together, lobbing my DFAM through the 06 you can get up to all sorts of dirty mischief.
Turns out I really like drum machines.
How ,,' i do the old skool noncomputer,, so how doyou get both machines without a mixer . Sound ing from speakers also , r u using trigger or trigger cables and midi .. really want min😂 going , but they dont sound from one speaker monitor what am i doing wrong
My jaw dropped at the tuning, decay and sends. I had a 606 briefly in the 90s so these additions are excellent to me!
The TR-06 is the dark horse big time! loads you can do with it!

Great demo, sold! I never quite got on with my TR-09, but this looks very fast, very intuitive
I threw away my TR-606 thirty years ago because it was broken and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Not long afterwards I figured out what the fault was. I've been kicking myself for thirty years at this stupidity. Buying a TR-06 will finally allow me to forgive myself and be at peace once more - I loved that machine.
Wow, really nice machine it is! I have already TR-8 with 7x7 expansion, but will get TR-06 it adds more flexibility and is so cool machine to be paired with my 03. The inbuilt effects are cool feature. Thank you Roland! 👍👍👍

Finally a 606 that is worth buying. Behringer totally dropped the ball on theirs, this is actually significantly better than I was even hoping for. All I wanted was tuning, decay, panning, and compression. This is far better than that.
Totally agree with you, the Behringer RD-6 is crap, the only good thing really is that they added a clap and the individual outs, and the distortion circuit is OK I guess. The TR-06 is way better, and hugely underrated

Hopefully it does happen, although there's no need for two separate machines, they could put 707 and 727 sounds in the same box for the boutique

Looks great and neat sequencer features but I've got a TR-8s and an original 606 (with a HC-2!) so that niche is filled but glad you've given the 606 some attention.
Just can't help imagining how good a 707/727 boutique would be with all the volume sliders (and 505 and 626 bonus sounds!).
What is HC-2?
@@wickeddubz the Boss HC-2, it's a hand-clap synth pedal. The story goes that Roland/Boss released it so that 606 owners could pair it with their 606 to have a clap sound, since there's no clap on the original 606
looks good bought an original 606 years back with box +original packaging manuals when no was interested in this old stuff £30 english pounds crazy price
Same here. I found one with the case and instruction manual for $8 at a yard sale in the early 90s. Ever since I parted with it I have regretted it.
Some pretty nifty upgrades, especially to changing the tuning / decay / snappy etc. That was always one of the drawbacks of the original.
Most of all, beyond functionality, it sounds cool.
If they only added a special clap like the Korg DDM-110

great synth. just bought one for the 808,03& sh101A boutique.
Why is there no solo with this unit? The TR-09 had a solo functionality, where you hit the enter button, while in the mute screen, to turn the mutes into solo and vise versa. The TR-06 doesn't do this. I fully expected to enter into the mute screen and then press the write/next button (like the enter button on the TR-09) to enter into a solo mode, but it didn't work. I think this is an oversight. If the TR-09 can have a solo mode, why not the TR-06? The functionality is identical and currently, the Write/Next button is doing nothing, while in the mute screen. Why not make it so this can change to a solo?
Why do I hear a CLAP in the intro track? How to select that sound because it's not selectable with the instrument-knob.

i’m not sure about the tweaking options, they look WAY too complicated to reach and it seems you have to turn the pots for quite a while before anything happens. plus: menus, menus, menus. looking forward to try it myself though.
Can say the menus are actually easy to navigate and the probability feature is super cool. Like AI for beat programming...

This will probably cost twice as much as the analog counterpart of the Behringer Clone RD-6. Not sure if they will able to sell this..

+ the RD-6 has notably failed to capture the pitching and accenting of the original hi-hats (albeit there's a lot of variability between each TR606)
You have to believe that ACB is as good as the real thing. It will be until ACB v2 comes out in a few years, at which point that will be even better.

@@PorchBass yes, a clone that will have long since broken. I love the sound of my TD-3 but these Behringer clones are hardly built to last. You get what you pay for.

I'm drooling like a patient in hospital. Is that a total of eight drums maximum forever? I would have preferred at least 16 so I don't get bored of them in a few years, despite the diverse range of modification that can be made.
I just don’t see the point. Roland could easily re-release the originals in their pure analogue form and make a killing. no doubt if they put a new TR-808 out at £2K - it would be sold out in minutes
Check out the Beringer range they released.. the Behringer RD-6 sounds more like the TR-606 then Rolands TR-06 to be honest

cymbals need definetly an update (the ability to vary the metallic deeper noise from the higher finer sounding noise) also in terms of a more shorter envelope ... same concerning the env goes for the hihats for more flexibility (imagine the ohh plays shorter than the chh, even a short cymbal) Bd well done, but it even could go deeper in pitch. btw i have the tr-606 and know what its capable of. I would have expected more out of this ACB stuff instead of adding extra delay n overdrive fx, at least me i dont need that kinda gadgets. Its all about the sound guys. Sell extra fx modules for the boutique, i do not care, but squeeze the most out of ACB at least !

I’ve got an original TR-606 but am a fan of the boutiques (apart from the awful position of the volume pot). I’ll probably get one for a bit of fun. TR-08 still very good as well.
Please make Boutiques for these synths Roland! Alpha Juno (Alpha-JU), Jupiter-4/Promars (JP-04), Jupiter-6 (JP-06) maybe combo it with the Jupiter 8 like the JU-06a did with the two Junos, JX-8P (JX-08), JD-800 (JD-08), JP-8000 (Can't figure out a good name for it). Please make it happen!

This demo is misleading. There are clearly handclaps on the intro of this, yet the 606 did not have a clap sound....
You are correct, but this is a demo for the TR-06 which does have additional sounds.

But Behringer RD6 are ugly imo, fuck the colours, Tr06 is just pure class, great design and look. Roland nailed it again. But I won't buy that, cause I have for my TB03 already good companions the TR08 AND 09.

An unnecessarily limited digital drum machine for ants, all to make more money off cheap digital when they have the factories to make the real deal analog on the cheap. They trade off their name with bare minimum effort and overpriced devices.

@@blk1048 Both the 303 and 606 failed and never sold in large numbers. Both were discontinued roughly two years later.
Black Agent doesn’t mean it died though, just meant it failed at launch, much like the 808 did. Within a few years people started using them differently to how they were intended and they became extremely popular, and for the most part still are

roland channel boutique demos are so boring, generalized and uninformative, doesnt give me the itch to buy the product. Dr Mix and Bo Beats make quality videos which roland already knows since they sponsored them to sell the tr-06 and they did an incredible job doing so. hire a more lively person to do your videos roland!
