I’ve got a ‘79 Power Wagon W-150 I re-did years ago. Went from a 318 2 bbl to a 440. I also changed the 3:21 half ton axles to 3/4 ton 4:10 axles. You’ll notice the Dodge front axles have NO spindle nuts...the wheel bearings are huge (maybe 4 inch diameter) and are pressed into the rotors. When they fail, there’s no getting a buddy to pull you home with a chain ! I found out after buying a matched set of axles from a 78 three quarter ton truck that they were exactly the same set-up. After way too many wheel bearing failures, I put in a 3/4 ton 4:10 front axle from a Suburban, problem solved. Leaf spring perches are in the same location, but you’ll need to fab different shock mounts. Mine has a 4 inch suspension lift and a 4 inch Rancho body lift. The 440 is running a 35 i. BFG’s, a Performer intake with a Holley 750, and Mopar Direct Connection headers; A lot more fun to drive than the 318 it started life with. Early Power Wagons ROCK ! Good luck with your project.
Lifetime MOPAR guy here...always loved those old DODGE trucks. Owned half a dozen of them and also a Ramcharger, but man were they rust buckets especially being in the salt belt. Living in Chevy country and marrying into a diehard Chevy family I took a LOT of crap for buying said rustbuckets but i defended the Dodge honor any way I could. I bought a '77 1 ton Power Wagon that was absolutley gorgeous...Bronze Fire metallic paint, lots of chrome trim, deluxe interior, huge DANA 45 axles front and rear, 4:10 axle ratio, super HD suspension, and the 360-3 HD truck engine that had monsterous tractor like torque. The truck was lifted quite high right from the factory and had that really badass body rake that RAM still has today. Bought the truck new in 1977 and in 1990 after only 12 years of driving I ended up taking it to the junk yard...well what was left of it. Pretty much rotted the cab right off from it 2 years after the box was taken off beyond fixing. And that was even having a total body restoration at probably 6-7 years. It was pathetic really. But all those old Dodges I owned had major rust issues. After that '77 I just didn't keep them very long any more. The last of the old style I owned was a 1988 which I had to have painted before I got rid of that one because it had started showing "the signs" of cancer. So I ventured into the new body style and bought a new 1999 Dodge Ram. Great reliable truck traded it in in 2007 with 130,000 miles and rust coming through the rear wheel wells. And I see that just about every freaking RAM and Dakota on the road built from 1994 when the new re-designed body came out right up until 2009 when Dodge officially stopped building trucks and RAM started, probably 90% of those trucks I see have bad rust around the rear wheel wells. Hard to defend that. Guys at work would say "why did you buy one of those rust buckets"??? IDK??? The only Dodge/RAM truck I previously owned that didn't get rusty was a 2007 HD Cummins but I only owned that for 2 years because I couldn't afford it. Anyway I now own a 2017 RAM 1500 that I bought a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty with and had it rust proofed and some type of permanent body/paint sealer protection with 10 year rust through protection because this is going to be the last vehicle I buy in my life. If it doesn't rust to the ground like all my previous MOPAR trucks did. We'll see. And if it does...I will either walk or use my Hover round scooter I will need by then...
I have a 1984 W100 with the 318 engine which is bulletproof. It's straight piped. I deleted the catalytic converter, muffler and resonator. It sounds awesome.
That is a very cool truck my uncle had a 76 Dodge Stepside it was lifted with big tires he used to carry me mud doggin in it all the time love that truck great project
My 80 Power Wagon has original paint although it’s rusted and faded dark green. 318 and a 4 speed it runs great and we just got 12 inches of snow on the first day of 2019 so going wheeling today in the Colorado mountains! Looking forward to your projects.
I would keep this truck all original just keep it the way it is. Clean it up and put a clear coat on it and get it running good because that truck is worth a lot of money to me. I wish it would be setting in my drive way because I would drive it every where. I myself is not a big Dodge fan but all the older trucks are better than the new ones by a long shot.
I just picked one of those trucks up for $500 up here in Northeast Washington State. Similar graphic colors on it more of a desert island paradise oranges and Browns. Buddy of mine just had his first son four months ago and has decided that this winter we're going to use it for a snow plow cuz he just bought the place on the mountain and by next year we'll have another truck for the plow and the 76 w100 Power Wagons going to go through a complete stripped down and rebuild got the original 400 in it automatic
Good to see someone saving one of these rather than turning it into a mud toy. I had a 1978 W-200 in the 1980s-1990s. You cracked me up with the dual wipers. I had them on my truck in 1986 until they came apart in a downpour outside Shreveport, LA. After that, I went back to stock. Lol
Awwww The duster is all like you promise not to forget about me !!! Looking forward to getting back to it. The power wagon looks likes it's ready to hit the road. Oh yeah forgive my manners merry Christmas .
He wanted to get rid of those mirrors lol damn those are hard to find mirrors for the 72-80 dodge pickups aka the tin grilles. I searched for a good set for a year before finally buying a set for $100 on eBay and that was the cheapest ones to pop up.
I have been looking for one of those trucks, how do you find them? What do you look for and what on (Facebook, Twitter) what? And about how much did you get it for
Very cool truck glad to see someone as saving it and paint Scheme is typical Dodge looks great I don't think I would change anything but the fact to make it go down the highway again can't wait to see how it turns out and Merry Christmas
I started watching your channel just because it reminded me of my old truck. It went through a couple tweekers hands last I heard of it. It is missing the rollbar and front push bumper, also has wrong front grill and different seats. It was a show truck at one point.
Please craig read this comment, My family is the pros at loopholing smog. You can do a couple things 1. Register your address for the truck in a county like Mendicino where smog is exempt 2. If someone lives out of state, register it as an out of state vehicle 3. If you find a diesel engine and from 97 or older your're good. 4. Find a ramchager/trailduster frame or vin from 75 or older and swap that part on to your truck and register it as that vehicle. Thats what we did with our 79 chevy k3500 (Hell you can register it at my uncles home, they are in a smog exempt county
I've seen engines that havent run in a long time have a bunch of water in the pan. Drain out the water till it turns to oil. Then it's fine. I couldn't believe it the first time either
Great project, You should try and find some history on the truck. That looks like a high end paint job from back in the day. It may have been a show truck with that headliner. Someone will recognize it hopefully. Keep the videos coming.
I have a 1979 dodge power wagon with the macho package. I bought it off of a guy it was his wife’s. She sadly passed away. I was able to drive it home a week later after buying it they’re cool trucks. it hasn’t been registered since 1994 but I found a cool thing out about vehicles that haven’t been registered in over four years do not exist on the computer so I don’t have to pay any fees because it hasn’t been on the road since 1994, so that’s basically 30 years, if you check out some of my shorts, you’ll see the truck
How much you want for it?? And does anyone know where Craig lives?? Over here in South Carolina we have no Classic cars here whatsoever unless I’m not looking in the right places.
ya i have one in the same year and color but all orange strip with rancho lift in ca. put in non op instead of trying to make a dead line. All drive tran is easy to find. but good luck finding all the rest of it original if its not all there. Wish i had the cash i would do a hall cat motor swap. In it. You have good taste i also have a 67 sport fury name cristine. And a brindle female bit bull. Love the video. Great mind think a like.

Please never EVER paint it. It looks so good with those graphics
In my opinion to me they don’t look good but I think he should leave it since it will look original
Badass
Лох
random car vids I agree so much that I wanna copy those graphics and place them on my 2017 Power Wagon.
Or paint it and paint the logos/graphics

I had a 1978 Macho Power Wagon. Black and yellow, 318 short bed. Loved it. The only truck I ever had that would go in the snow in 2 wheel drive.
I have a 1984 W100 with the 318 engine which is bulletproof. It's straight piped. I deleted the catalytic converter, muffler and resonator. It sounds awesome.
That truck has parts that has been know to cause Cancer in the state of California. Love your work keep it up.
Prop 65 is on EVERYTHING now lol
California is a cancer anyways, fining people for loud exhaust but don't fine any illegal aliens that come to the commiefornia
@@JalenRose02 you got your eyes open i like you
Stephen Willis that’s right
That paint is all of the 70's/80's goodness. I dig it. Grandma's couch cushions fits that headliner too.
i had a black 77 just like that one.. one hell of a great old truck. you gotta love that 4wheel drive all the time
I had a 78 Power Wagon I loved that truck that was back in the mid 80s .I believe it had a 340 in it . It got about 10 mpg on a good day LOL .
Love this truck. Just picked up a 76 Tin Grille Club Cab Power Wagon. 4spd. Getting a 76 440 soon.
That is a very cool truck my uncle had a 76 Dodge Stepside it was lifted with big tires he used to carry me mud doggin in it all the time love that truck great project
Love those dodge grills. Something about the 77-78s I guess they are that's very cool. Old truck parts and pieces are like art work.
My 80 Power Wagon has original paint although it’s rusted and faded dark green. 318 and a 4 speed it runs great and we just got 12 inches of snow on the first day of 2019 so going wheeling today in the Colorado mountains! Looking forward to your projects.
I thought 79 was the last year of the power wagon?
Way cool ! Never seen those graphics before ! I have a 80 Power Wagon sitting for 10 years.
I got a w200 long bed i need a new carb and she'll be running great. Only problem drivers side floorboard a bit rusty
I love that paint, that's when trucks were trucks & men were men!!!
I just picked one of those trucks up for $500 up here in Northeast Washington State. Similar graphic colors on it more of a desert island paradise oranges and Browns. Gives me motivation to get working on my 77w200 club cab with a 440 4x4!
That truck is sick. The paint shall never be touched!
I put a 440 in my ram, 9” lift and 42” tires on it,79 ramcharger, lots of fun with her
Good to see someone saving one of these rather than turning it into a mud toy. I had a 1978 W-200 in the 1980s-1990s. You cracked me up with the dual wipers. I had them on my truck in 1986 until they came apart in a downpour outside Shreveport, LA. After that, I went back to stock. Lol
That truck is wayyyyy to cool! Wanna see alot more as it gets built!
Power wagons are the best I can’t wait to see the build. I like the paint.
How big of a lift does it have I recently picked up a 76 Power Wagon that I would like to put a left in and how big of tires does it have
If I'm not mistaken , those tires look like the old mug hawgs, I had a set on my yota back in late 80s , gah miss that truck 😎
Nice, I love the Power Wagons. Keep the Dodge/Mopar projects coming. Don't paint it, run as is, I would.
Very nice truck. I'm currently swapping a 77 body on to first gen Cummins W250 intercooled 5 speed.
That is so bad ... I’m jealous bro wow ...... I love the factory power wagon stripes too ... can not wait to see done 👍🏻👍🏻
You guys have to get it smog tested within 90 days of purchase even if it’s unfit? We don’t have to do it until we want to license it in Canada
Can't wait to see it coming along yep the patina looks so cool on that especially with those colors!
Has a working parking brake? That’s one thing I can say most of my old mopars don’t have 😂
Paint those stripes yellow. Like an inverted Bumblebee. Put a 440 & TKO-600 in it.
Where can I find an original top for my 77 Trailduster ?
Awwww The duster is all like you promise not to forget about me !!! Looking forward to getting back to it. The power wagon looks likes it's ready to hit the road. Oh yeah forgive my manners merry Christmas .
He wanted to get rid of those mirrors lol damn those are hard to find mirrors for the 72-80 dodge pickups aka the tin grilles. I searched for a good set for a year before finally buying a set for $100 on eBay and that was the cheapest ones to pop up.

Nice color
Craig I have a 1980 d150 sport truck I've been looking for those mirrors forever!
So whats the difference between a 74 power wagon and a 74 W200?
Am waiting for the final touch✌️
That Jeep behind the Dodge looks like a good project.
Taking off those windshield wipers reminded me of when a shop threw mine out and replaced them with the plastic ones aghhh
Very cool truck glad to see someone as saving it and paint Scheme is typical Dodge looks great I don't think I would change anything but the fact to make it go down the highway again can't wait to see how it turns out and Merry Christmas
Hey Craig, does he want to sell the mirrors since he is going with the bigger mirrors? I need those for my 73!
Just found this channel and is California where all the good looking power wagons are? All the ones over here in idaho have rusted out
No Way!!!!!!!!! Thats my old truck!!! Was my dads truck. I'm so pissed my mom gave this thing away while I was out of town working. Cant believe it!
I started watching your channel just because it reminded me of my old truck. It went through a couple tweekers hands last I heard of it. It is missing the rollbar and front push bumper, also has wrong front grill and different seats. It was a show truck at one point.

thats illegal, lol
My 75 Dodge has been sitting 20 years. First thing i should have done is replace the feul pump. The seals were dry and dumped gas into the oil pan.
That truck has a nice stance i wonder what size tires are on it.
I've seen engines that havent run in a long time have a bunch of water in the pan. Drain out the water till it turns to oil. Then it's fine. I couldn't believe it the first time either

That year is my dream year i own 2 that ive been working in putting a 3.8 ford mustang from a 98 into mine it also has a 5speed man
Please tell me your going to put the 76 grill on I absolutely hate the 77 tin grill I have a 74 power wagon and a 70
Buddy Lee. 74 power wagon 3/4 we call her Ronda she ain't much to look at but she's sturdy .
How much will you like for those 15" wheels???
I'm jealous. I always wanted a Mid 70s power wagons 4x4.
Any way you’d sell those mirrors?
Just redo the paint! Looks great!
That thing is going to be a beast keep up the good work can't wait to see it running
What size tires are on it
Use a gm 3/4 or 1 ton front axle. The bearings are extremely difficult to change in the front end
Erick Markon , there not that bad I had a 77 and rebuilt front end
How much you want for it?? And does anyone know where Craig lives?? Over here in South Carolina we have no Classic cars here whatsoever unless I’m not looking in the right places.
It’s so awesome to see stuff last like that outside we’re I live that would be rotten into the ground after a couple years
California - enough said.
I know. Pretty cool huh.
Quite the opposite. Garbage state.
California fuckin sucks. Liberal shithole
