The PD is not usually given out. I got mine by asking at a store where I had just purchased two pairs of glasses. Also, you can get a PD ruler and have a friend measure for you. BYW, I have used Zenni for about ten years. I have probably bought eight pairs and have had zero problems. I have also used my local Walmart where the glasses are MUCH cheaper. My no line bifocal progressive glasses are less than my eye doctor's office prices by about half at Walmart. Zenni is about a third of the doctor's price. .
My goodness Mr Howard, I admire you so much but never knew you had a UA-cam podcast! I just saw this today and subscribed right away. So happy to see you on UA-cam.
I want to thank you so much for your advice years ago regarding a credit freeze. Recently I was a victim of identity theft and they were not able to open a credit card in my name. I then followed up with appropriate alerts on banking information. YAY Clark and thank you for all your help!!!
Many years ago I went to Costco in Westlake Village to buy new tri-focal glasses. When I tried them on at the counter, I could tell they were "off" - but I took them. Around a year later, the stem fell off of the frame - and I went to an optometrist for tri-focals and he told me they weren't made properly. That was in 2001. I'm still wearing these same glasses - no prescription change. Since then, I don't trust Costco for glasses.
I've purchased four pairs of glasses from Zenni. I wear bifocals, but I just got far vision glasses from Zenni. They nailed the prescription, and my prescription is relatively strong.
Zenni lists all the measurements of their frames so you can make sure they fit well and compare them to your current frames. most of the glasses I've gotten from them have been great!
Zenni is GREAT! I took a chance + ordered online + am super happy with both frames + lens. U need to choose the proper size frame--S., M, L. I'm a S cuz my eyes are close together. I got the works on lenses. Got the best lenses, progressives, automatic darkening. Saved $175 from typical eyeglass store. Highly recommended!
Bad experience at Costco when I tried them years ago. They couldn't get my prescription right. So got my glasses from the ophthalmologist office, (expensive, but I could see better with that pair) I'll try the ones you mentioned next time! THANK YOU!!
Regarding the segment on eyeglasses, always do your eye exam with an optometrist because they are legally required to provide you the prescription details (as Clark mentioned). Also know that 90% of the name brands are all made by Luxottica (Oakley, Ray-Ban, Georgia Armani, Chanel, Coach, Prada, Versace, etc.). Having owned many pairs of eye glasses, I can confidently say that all of these brands under Luxottica are within the same level of quality and craftsmanship…which is average. If you want higher quality frames, then look toward boutique brands that specialize in a design or material that you like. For me, it’s Blackfin because they make lightweight titanium frames that are incredibly durable. Also, establish an FSA because it’s a pre-tax account for healthcare and covers the cost of prescription eyeglasses and contacts.
ADT is horrible. Came with our new home pre wired. I had them Install the cameras and door bell and monitoring. Prices keep going up and up after the contract expired. Price doubled and then trippled. Last straw was a issue with the system. I troubleshoot over the phone twice for a couple of hours. Help desk couldn't figure out the issue. We ask a tech come out. They wanted $150 for a service call. I told that they were no longer needed. I went on Amazon and bought Blink. Easy set up. Easy to use. And I save a crap load of money.

Every time I have to buy my glasses they have to be fitted to me properly. If online, where would you have this done? Luckily my ophthalmologist has an optometrist in-house who can do this for me at a good price.
Re: costco glasses. I need progressive and they have their own progressive brand and I’m uncertain of the quality. Can you let me know if there is much distortion? My optometrist recommends Varilux as there is less distortion. Your thoughts?
I disagree about glasses, I returned a pair to Costco, they could not get them to fit properly, they didn’t even try to help me with another pair. I’d rather pay more at my eye doctor’s office where I get better service and custom fitting.
I’ve had very expensive glasses from doctors that were never right and they would never redo them. They would just keep on trying to adjust the frame when it was a lens problem, not a frame issue. I wasted so much money! Then I tried Costco and have bought over 8 pairs over the last 5 years and they have the best customer service ever. The main reason I went there is because you can return the glasses if there is a problem! I did have an issue with one pair (I bought two pairs at the same time so I could tell right away). They said the prescription might not work with the size/angle of the frame so they took them back and I picked out a new pair and they remade them. All the glasses I have bought there with the highest quality frames/lenses/options were under $275 without insurance compared to the $500-$900 I paid from 2 different doctor offices with insurance.
I will never go back to Costco for eyeglasses. EVER. I wouldn’t recommend them at all. 0%!!! I told the employee this is my first time getting glasses and I needed specific things according to my prescription. They must have been running a sales contest and the employee didn’t care about true customer service on such an important purchase… instead just relentlessly pressured me into buying three pairs because they were “$30 off on the second and third pairs.” The employee totally lied to me saying they never go on sale like that. The employee also lied and said that their yellow lense tint for diabetics was “the same as” what I was advised to get for a specific condition. It is NOT the same. The quality is horrible. The lenses got bubbles in them. I’ve now heard from others that the quality of their lenses is sub par. The whole experience was awful, especially since I have always liked Costco otherwise and they have a good reputation… those are the reasons I chose to buy glasses from them. NEVER again. You’re really not saving any money, you’re just getting a lesser quality product.
Unfortunately my husband signed up with a “friend “ back in 1989 for a Universal Life. The insurance company has been trying to get him to cash out since there wasn’t really much cash value left on it anyway. So we are cashing it out and putting the money towards paying off debt. We have 4 rental properties and his 2017 pick up I could sell if anything happens to him. I am also expecting my share of inheritance from the sale of my recently deceased daddy’s 2 rental properties,so don’t need to keep padding the insurance company’s pockets!!! 8:56
Long term alarm companies are very bad, I had a three year contract and it was very easy to sign up but very very difficult to get out of, the company starts with the letter A which stands for awful.
I threw an alarm salesman off my property years ago, and the next morning, I noticed that the ornamental bench next to my front door had been stolen. Coincidence? I think not.
Years ago, our consumer troubleshooter in Denver had a call about an A.. contract. Their unoccupied vacation home had burned down. A.. failed to call the fire dept. So they had no house, but were required to continue paying the monthly fee for a service that no longer existed.
You say “glasses” but it is the frames that are cheap, affordable but it is the lenses that are outrageous. Can you trust these retailers e we it’s your lenses?
THANK YOU CLARK! I didn't know about this until AFTER I bought my glasses. Taken to cleaners that time, NOT NEXT TIME I was shocked at the price they charge $500-600/ pair I'll get my next pair from one of those places you mentioned!!!
Estate planning documents really need to be handled by an attorney. Especially amending existing ones like a trust. Doing this cheap can end up being the most expensive money you ever save. I've had multiple clients come to me over the years with these online things and I almost always see some significant issue with them. Don't DIY this. Do it right the first time and get the protections of the attorney-client relationship.
@Clark. Ha! If you get an attorney involved, every situation is complicated! The biggest mistake my deceased mother made was getting an attorney involved! When she died, the same attorney charged us $10,000 the first month to straighten out what he had done to her estate. A simple will was all she needed.
If you order online, make sure the script has your pupillary distance.
Best advice here! 🙌 Be sure to ask for your PD number. Thanks for the reminder, Clarkie!

Listening to the oldies but goodies. Great refresh from Clark!
ADT is my alarm system and they are very good for my home and I have never had a problem with them
Love Zenni. Been using for years because of Clark. Progressive lenses cost more but so much less than others.
Will have to look into Zenni
I've purchased four pairs of glasses from Zenni. I wear bifocals, but I just got far vision glasses from Zenni. They nailed the prescription, and my prescription is relatively strong.
Terrible Costco experience at Costco getting glasses! !!!
Zenni lists all the measurements of their frames so you can make sure they fit well and compare them to your current frames. most of the glasses I've gotten from them have been great!
Should we buy our own alarm systems then sign up for monitoring or buy from those same companies?

Sorry you had a bad experience with Costco. Try some of the other low-cost providers to see if you can save some money next time. 💚

Glad you're happier and saving money! 💚
ADT quoted me $900 just to install a security system for my condo. I declined.
Glasses with progressive lenses are $600 at Warby Parker.
😲 $600?! We will check that out.
As far as alarms go, with Blink you can self install & has no monthly charge.
I need the link for eyeglass article Clark mentioned.

Only Clark would correct someone that his "$5" t-shirts were actually only $2.80. After all, Clark would never spend a whole $5 on a t-shirt!
Does Warby Parker guarantee the progressive lenses? In other words, do they guarantee i won’t have issues and if i do, can i return them?

I had the same problem at Costco.
Gave Costco 2 chances to get it right; Maybe buy frames but I'll never do prescriptions wirh them
Agreed. Not the best experience at Costco or Sams

@@gailsammons6050 not for me.
Both Sam's Club and Costco are cheaper than anywhere. Costco more so than Sam's Club, unless there is a special going on.
You don't need the alarm if you just signed a long-term monitoring contract...since you've already been robbed by the aiarm company...
💯 Good one!

Always max the IRA and 401k every year. No, you never want that "insurance" crap.

Costco has been the best for prescription eyeglasses

Careful Clark, it's not called the Cockpit anymore. Its a Flight Deck....
Forget it. It will always be a cockpit.
