Crazy how classical took the spotlight over the main event and it was just introduced a few years back
Even more crazy that first place in bikini gets 50k, first place in classic is 30k...
thats mainly because the main event lineup was really weak, besides the lack of stars, most of the guys were off
zior92 No clue why that is cause who tf actually watches bikini
But having 70+ competitors is kind of ridiculous. If that’s a indicator of how popular the division is ... awesome. But they need to trim that lineup a bit
It's a much more desirable physique compared to open class imo, 🙏♥️🏅
People fail to realize that classic is focusing more on lines and symmetry rather than muscle size. If you're looking for size then 212 or open would be your go to.
Jová Zamo I honestly think that Breon is more aesthetic than Chris. I would rather look like Breon than Chris.
Anil Quitter yea breon more complete. But chris look more classic to me
@@anilquitter9304 I disagree I would much rather look like Chris, I would pick a slimmer midsection any day of the week.
They could easily increase prize money if top 5 threatened to boycott the event. Just sayin.
Not really money is not in classic period
Will Y - nah, only people who will watch classic is friends and family, same with all the other divisions... people pay to watch the freaks
Keone Pearson has said in his last post, that he is moving to 212 next year
I feel bad for Breon, but man I was so happy for Cbum. He deserved it. he lost by 1 point last year, and brought it this year. But, I will say, Keone has a bright future here man, that guy has an insane structure, just too bad that hes a bit short.
Keone announced he's moving to 212
Jake Kelly sad part is he lost last year by 1 point being in the hospital and not fully on imagine then
Keone's proportions are insane, but just like lee priest, he is limited by his height and small frame/stature
@@oskarklingest5682 I agree. While at this Olympia we had the best overall end results in the Classic division I feel that Sandoe and Patrick Moore in the open are the guys with the brightest future.
@@reekhadol I'm so mad about this. Hes soooooo classic. In a couple years he could win the title. He'll make for a mediocre 212 at best. What the hell is he thinking?
Plus Chris had the Lee labroda mustache and posing routine LOL👍💪💪
LightsOUT!
Are you out of your mind comparing Chris and Labrada in posing, Lee is the best poser in bodybuilding history and Chris is ok but still needs way more polish and skill to even deserve to be compared with the greats like Lee Labrada.
Lee Labroda had biceps. Where Bumstead biceps?
@@macII2 Hiding under Breon's gyno.
@@markokrstic3164 Makkawy is #1
Bumstead was the worthy winner this time, more classic looking to me.
It's hard to pick since Keone and Chris look phenomenal
You mean breon?
Controversial comment
Not really. Breon was robbed
James Vincent Chris beat Breon in almost every pose expect the back double bicep
Chris Bumstead is the greatest
keone pearson has one of the best front double in the history change my mind
Where did keone place? Agreed btw
Totally agree, I just don't like his chest it looks like it is shallow and needs more pop and depth.
Potentially. Not at the moment he needs way more condition ( thickness) muscle maturity and hardness like the TOP-3
Steve laureus's Arnold package was beautiful
@@kabilan1242 steve laureus is killing it in that pose but i feel like keone is fuller and fills it out better
I think the moustache won it really
😅 yea. Loved it.
😂😂
*_He got naice height Cbum_*
Really good analysis... I have a lot to learn from you
Thx man appreciate it
Sure you do
I absolutely love your commentary, everyone else seems to so inconsistent with there analysis. Favorite Bodybuilding channel!
I’m glad they chose a physique that looks more classic instead of a physique with more muscle mass or a big back. Chris will be a great Mr. O. Honestly I’d love it if there were more guys who looked like Zane.
Wrong choice
White guys with backpacks and small dicks hmm, I don’t really see the resemblance. The only thing I see the same is the height.
last year Cbum was off and lost by one point. The judges couldn't wait to award him the win. You could feel that the winds were blowing Cbum's way. This division is the most subjective out of them all. Everyone's Ideal Classic physique is different. For some it's peaked biceps and a thick detailed back. for others its hitting a vacuum.
gaurd3 true.
Zane and his contemporaries had obliques. The classic guys seem to have forgotten about that muscle group. So what you have is a hybrid men’s physique/classic physique. IMO the current classic doesn’t resemble the 70’s bb’rs at all. The classic guys are trying to have bikini girl waists. Ansley is more complete
The conditioning was so much better in classic. Look at the back shots, all of the top three have good feathering in the lower back, in open? Not so much
maybe because they have to make weight? you're probably the same guy praising the golden era, where guys were fat on stage with no legs
Chris brought the real classic to the stage reminding me of Frank Zane. Well deserved.
Richie AngeLove Breon has been in real classic physique since day one now Chris bumbstead caught up. Now we need another one like vintage genetics to pull triple threat.
Frank zane did not have synthol shoulders
100% correct on bumstead. Chen looked amazing for his first (I think) Olympia. Peterson needs to go to 212.
It was his first Olympia
The guy has an amazing potential
@@azapcity8552 but hes not classic physique with this kind of gut
@@supercunthunt7756 vacuum isn't a mandatory pose plus if vacuum=Classic then Vic Richards is a classic boybuilder
SuperCunthunt Chen had a vacuum, look at his front double bicep. Albeit not as dramatic as cbum and keone. Are you talking about Phil the gut gift?
... yes, Peterson needs to go to 212.
Yes, he looked more CLASSIC. Also Breon had gyno again. Should be an instant DQ. But seriously, it's classic physique not light-weight bodybuilding. Cbum's physique flows better and is more aesthetic.
What is classic to you?
Gyno were???? Wtf u smoking...gyno lol please
@@ArMiNiSfUCkinRedicK His right nipple
Chris had the look of a winner! That was the difference.
he surely did. He looked very confident and concentrated.
@@PauloTravels dude looked pissed at the end and in some of the poses he looked like he didn’t even wanna be there.
@@marcuslarwa9098 he was sick. he said he felt like shit in the prep for that O.
Chris has the classical aesthetic look. Which I remember Arnold spoke of in his book as being the purpose and goal of bodybuilding. So it is not just about getting muscle, it is also about how the overall look and shape of the body is, and is presented. So aesthetics is the goal. Not size.
Which is why in the "old days", anyone could beat anyone. E.g. Arnold beating Olivia, and Frank Zane beating Arnold etc. Different sizes and shapes. But whoever was the most pleasing to the eye and impressive, won the show.
These days, the open bodybuilding division's contestants have become too similar in shape, and have lost their uniqueness. And also, they are no longer pleasing to the eye. I remember Arnold speaking about bodybuilding being about constructing a body in the mould of the Greek gods. Something beautiful yet impressive. So I am happy they created this division.
Chen kang looks good. He totally deserves to be in that top 5.
chenkang's visa got denied 8 times...he shouldve been in the mrO last year...his visa got passed two days before the show, and he arrived in states just the day before the Mr.O...
Happy for Chris. The other guys are gifted and looked great, but Chris has always looked more 'classic" to me. That mid-section, esp. with the vacuum, those broad shoulders and formidable height, that fluid presentation -- he has more of a 70s-update look.
Honestly, they should have you as one of the judges at the Mr O, really good content, keep it up! ;)
Couldnt agree more with you Tom, great video
Agreed. Very close, but I agree with bumstead winning. Greg Doucette had some good points in his video earlier
I've been waiting for this
Excellent take. All the observations that you made exactly what I was thinking.
Chris had a better physique than anyone in the open class too.
Huge fan of both CBum and Breon, the latter of which I met at the LA Fit Expo in January. Super chill dude, probably one of the nicest pros you'll meet. I'm glad Chris won--it was so close, but I think the judges felt it was his time, and that the division could use a new champion. Side note: George's back is absolutely ridiculous....looking straight up like an alien.
Wasn’t sure how I felt about Bumstead winning because the arm and back weaknesses are pretty significant. But that vacuum really makes a big difference and the stomach is the most important part. He smokes the competition there. And he gets a lot of chances to show it off. Breon isn’t weak there at all but I don’t like the way he posed in one of those shots and the poor lighting didn’t help.
Yes. i also feel the lighting and posing hurt breon. Just enough to give Chris the win.
In person bumstead is electric on stage. All top 3 are excellent.
Tomn8er - next year we expect you go to Olympia and broadcast from there.
Crazy how this video was like you reading my exact thoughts from paper. :D plus some additional remarks like the difference between more wow factor vs less flaws.
Classic saved the O this year but I've still got a lot of issues with judging. Maybe from a few years from now on we'll be more clever why things happen the way they do.
This is the best division .....I would like to see more of these aesthetic classic physique
Once Keon adds some mass he’ll be a force to be reckoned with
yeah... just more size in the pecs and some overall muscle maturity and he's pretty much the next mr.o!
just his separated abs, though... it's probably just genetic but i wish it could be fixed!
Nope he's shit
Mr. Charles Smith - I think so too, but he’s moving to 212
not in classic. he's short as fuck and 212 exist.
His upper body structure is unmatched imo. Perfect bi and tri insertions, flaring lats, tiny waist and can hit the most insane vacuum.
Chris actually looks harder from the rear with better lines he just lacks a little thickness
GAYEST COMMENT EVERRRR
Another great analysis Tomn8er. Even tho I would much rather look like Chris than Breon (as I'm already tall) I still think it was paper thin close.
Cbum deserved it. I actually think as far as the Classic structure of bodybuilding and golden era physiques are concerned. Cbum brought it this year.
I liked the fact that he won too, a real champion never gives up! he deserves it!
Chris is CLASSIC.
He won every pose except the back double biceps. So of course he won.
not the front double bi
spankybighead if we judging on biceps alone, chris lost. But if we talk about flow, yes chris win.
One thing that Chris had over Breon and especially George: Calves. Not great but he has more size and more detail from the side- it's subtle but it's there in every pose.
Delts too, so much wider and thicker form the front especially
@@bmx7596 his legs are better and he can hold a vacuum, there’s no way those guys are beating him until they can do they same.
Nice content man..well explained too..
Chris deserved it,if keone gets shredded he could win.
They both are the epitome of classic bodybuilding💯💪💪
The score card with the judges and athletes reminds me of a restaurant menu where you have 30 different items to order from.
This is where you scratch your head and say hmmmmmm witch one.
" To many too confusing "
Chris definitely looks classic, like Steve Reeves
Bumstead is the only Mr. Olympia I need.
Classic is ALL about the midsection. Guys from the golden age (which Classic is patterned after) were big AND muscular. What all those guys had back then were tight, tapered abs and vacuum poses. Breon needed to match cbums vacuum pose. The vacuum expands your ribcage and creates that V illusion. In fact, the vacuum needs to be a mandatory pose.
Thanks for your informative analysis as always. Any expert commentary on the Classic guys who placed 6th through 10th? IMHO, there are some really amazing physiques in that second tier, not to be counted out for the future.
I agree man. 100% congrats to Chris !
Love how you made the comparison to Frank Zane who I consider to have the best classic look of all time. He was basically Mr. Aesthetic. The wow factor for Chris I also agree. He looks unique up there, especially in his favorite poses. His frame is so appealing to the eye. Breon is more of a complete bodybuilder rather than a specific look which is needed for this class.
This is one division where the back is not a make or break, you can win on good lines and decent conditioning.
commentator is on point...can't argue
chan kang definitely deserved to be top 5 no question
Steve Laureus is basically Chris Bumstead with a better back and biceps. When this guy puts it together he'll be unstoppable. Hopefully we'll see them side by side in 2020.
exactly
see i think when you look at it like this theyre pretty tied, but its when you see videos breon is just so much more graceful it just gives him more of aa classic look
Honestly, I think that cbum should have been Mr. O for the past 2 years ( maybe not last year cause of his conditioning). I think Breon looks too big. Sure, better bodyparts but his CBUM just has better lines and structure. I think the classic look is training certain bodyparts more than others as Frank zane rarely squatted but you have guys like Tom Platz who had big legs but were very classic as well. Hard to say tbh.
*Fast forward to 2022* 59 classic competitors
breon should have definitely won! he's just so damn complete from head to toe!!
the only tiny little flaw i saw was his tan and colouring, it was way too dark to the point where it hid the details in some shots.
Breon should have still won in 2019 Chris was good but it wasn't enough to beat beat Breon in my opinion. But in 2020 Chris definitely deserved to win.
judging is so inconsistent. Breon's physique was as good as ever. What did he do to lose this year and not the years before ? What was so much better about Chris compared to 2017 ? (Not 2018)
I have no clue! I watched it live and i think breon should've won.
Great analysis. Bumstead was golden all around, and its hard to deny it. He just was better than Ansley, this year. No toss up. Just better.
100% deserved it. No question. No debate. Leave favorites at home, he put in weeerk
Looking forward to see Steve Lareaus next to these guys next year
Wow. Imagine someone having an Arnold-like physique on that stage. That would really fire up the competition. We'd have a new Arnold vs Zane rivalry.
First time I've seen Breon pissed
Very, very close, but Bumstead deserved it. AND, if you add front-, and rear lat spread. Then it is a light's out victory for Chris.
Bum, Breon, Keon, and Kang look fucking phenomenal.
Great video and breakdown. IMO Breon had physique aspects of Zane, Dickerson and Labrada. CBum is like a Bob Paris who was never champ or even a contender.
Thx I don't see the Zane in Breon more like Samir mixed with the other two you mention. Some Bob Paris in CBum for sure!
Damn, 9:40 that shot, that lineup reminds me of the 80's and around that time's lineups, Where the competition was so fierce!! This should be the real mr. O, the open guys should strive for this. Then we could have a freak division or some shit. But look at that shot at 9:40!!! Everybody looks so good. Everybody looks so on. I love that these guys dont have to play the size game far from as much as open guys, bcs then they have the opportunity to come in this shredded, this hard, THIS ON. They look amazing, who would not want to look like that. Curry is amazing too, but he sacrificed his mid section for size, he had poor lowerbody conditioning, and were far from as hard as these guys, bcs of extra fat and water. But yeah, that shot is just super Classic and clean, i loved that, THAT should be bodybuilding. Just happy that this division is representing the old days, and that its so popular too.
Lol this is almost the same thumbnail and title as the NSP video...I thought YT was recommending the same video to me twice in a row lol. But I'm interested to see what Tomn8er has to say about the judging. I think he sees it very similarly to myself.
RIGHT ON BUMSTEAD...Much deserved...you are making ZANE very proud.
It was his magic moustache that did it.
With some improvements to his back and arms I feel C-BUM will dominate the classics class for a while!
He dominated by one point guy.
Absolutely agree.
Damn Keone is fucking awesome. Can't wait to see where he goes.
Bumstead is just so fitting of the division. Hopefully he can improve those aspects more with time.
Unfortunate for Breon, since he is already kind of maxing out as far as what he could bring... but it is what it is. Like with Peterson, he's stuck as an awkward 3rd wheel and there's nothing he can do about it.
Breon's abs shot was shit. He bent over and hid it in the shadows (unintentionally). But that's not a good angle either way. And he makes himself look smaller overall. So he ended up being crushed on the ab pose, when Chris wasn't even doing the vacuum.
I think Chris' ab pose at 1:00 looks super good... I like that variation. The abs look far better than usual, and it's more artistic overall.
I suppose it's tricky to then transfer into the vacuum though like that.
There's a number of posing fixes I think Breon can do. He was too dark in that shit lighting which sucked. He should pull a vacuum pose, because he looks amazing with one. That would kill some of the hard contrast with Bumstead's vacuum, and then Breon still has his conventional ab shot.
I wonder if Breon will be stuck not knowing if there's any point in competing again. I think there is. It was super close too, so it could easily swing the other way, especially with good lighting and some other stuff, and different judges, and the politics. Maybe have a long back and forth rivalry would be really fun. Instead of a boring reign.
I want Peterson to crush it in 212 with Derek lol. Save that division from going extinct.
I think Keone should have crushed Peterson in this division.
The organizers just want more excitement in this division and Breon just wasn't the best representative, while CBum has a more marketable look that will bring more interest to the class.
I think it could have gone either way and i would have been fine with it, although last year we know that Bumstead was sick and off and he still only lost by one point so i think logic would say that if he came in feeling better that Bumstead would win. He simply has the better frame for this division so when hes on his game its very hard to argue against him, I dont even considering his back a weakness, i think its better he doesnt over develop it and keeps his streamlined form.
I wish they would make them hit the poses all the exact same then we can get a better look and compare
Chris’s tricep striations are heavily underrated. His back needs a little bit more focus but he clearly has the most classic physique and is incredibly well balanced overall. A little more development from the biceps and he’ll be winning the classic Olympia til the day he decides he’s done destroying everyone else lmao
They all look great tbh
Nice video Tom, I do agree. Just one thing, I'd rather see competitors with Keone's face rather than with fake idiotic smiles like George or Breon.
The dark guys got shafted by the lighting
Just saw the head judge from the Olympia say that George Peterson is switching to 212. The judge said George Peterson isn't winning classic physique because, ultimately, he has a bodybuilding physique and not the "classical" lines structure and lines they are looking for.
Breon should hit the vacuum pose
when they get to do their fav. pose i honestly feel like george peterson hits the most classic pose
Chris looks literally like he's from the golden era moustache an all
Homeboy looked salty af in the last picture lolll he was definitely pissed he lost that’s for sure.
I think it could have gone either way, but if Chris had bigger arms it would definitely be game over every time.
Totally agreed 2019 could have gone either way.
But to this day I still believe Bumstead should have taken the 2017 Classic Physique. Breon just made the competition harder post 2017.
Can we see the Tomn8ter?
Like ur video man, but Chen Kang should definitely be in the top 5
This is where bodybuilding is at just need to get the open to change
Wow, Bumstead looks like a young Berry DeMey!! Both in looks and physique...
Def a resemblance there
I really like Bumsteads legs. He brought them up a lot from last years! He is same hight as me so i think that’s why i prefer him too. Taller guy with nice balanced physique looks allways more impressive than a shortie 😁
Exactly!!
Chris has the WOW factor, no doubt Breon is a complete BB.
It's just like Phil vs Kai. Phil is a complete bodybuilder but Kai has the wow factor which no one had in the Open class.
Bumstead looked like Bob Paris
It doesn't get anymore classic that that
he was the top dog by my eye 100%
3:45 great quality picture!
I think it’s great for the division seeing bumstead win. If they judged classic like they did bodybuilding then Peterson would have won by a landslide. But they already have a mini open division, it’s called 212. Need to not turn classic into a downsized open and I think they did great this year. Also believe Keon is gonna give bumstead a run for his money in the future, also a crazy classic physique
Breon looked better but i get they choose posterboy Chris. His structure is insane.
Breon definitely has Bumstead through the Biggus Dickus region and the back.
It seems like they wanted to go with the taller guy. Its interesting that in both mens physique and classic physique we had tall winners. I guess that's what the judges are going for. but who knows, they never release their official criteria
The winner of the open was also relatively tall
True. Too bad for ol Gunther, maybe this could have been his year lol
Tinfoil hat
Also the division has a lot of very promising new comers. Logan Franklin could do some damage next year. Also a more developed and thick Keone would give Cbum a run for his money.
