You made my day! Great vid👍👍 I had to discover the software like you but I had to figure out an extra step. Using my 2013 iMac I could not login to the RED software. ROON resides on a Mac Mini M1 (headless) in another room so what I did was to use Remote Sharing and pull up a Google web browser remotely and type in the red IP address and then IT WORKED! I have my RED connected to my Holo Cyan2 with a USB cable. I was able play several DSD files I got for free from Steve Guttenberg/HD Tracks and it plays just fine. I plan to go back in to the RED setup and take a look at the USB Redirector like you demoed. I have Airplay 2 going as well so I’ll try the RED without Airplay 2 on and see if I notice a sound quality improvement. Many thanks to you for your first RED video to inspire me to buy it. As a great sounding streamer would you also call it a transport, much like a CD transport? Best to you👍👍
I would not call it a transport, because there are no moving parts. I guess it is kind of moving the bits from one to the next, but Transport is more or less taken. Streamer or DDC is probably the best descriptor.
Great video! Thank you for making this. Can you comment on which services require exclusive access to an output, and how that affects the ergonomics? For instance, is it possible to have Roon Read and Tidal Connect both output to the native outputs (SPDIF/I2S, etc) and switch from one to another just by stopping playback in one app and starting playback in another, without having to mess with the Red configs? Another burning question - why is there no output selection under NAA? How does determine where it outputs, or does it require exclusive access to the entire device if enabled? Hope you don't feel like Holo Audio tech support, information about the ergonomics of the Red is really hard to come by and you just became the #1 source on the internet :)
I do not use Tidal, but if you play Tidal through Roon, then it will use the Roon output. But yes, you can switch like you said. I did this with normal UPnP and with Roon. Just make sure to stop the player and not just pause. The services will tell you what is exclusive when you select them as you see in the video. I think the last two options are, but I cannot remember. I don't use Red OS on a daily basis. There is no output under NAA because I believe those are just going to default to the main outs and there might be a selection of outputs within NAA, I am not sure.
Curiosity for those that own this Ted.. I have been using the Cyan2 for a few months long with a Wiim pro. I’d be interested in having this Holo Red but only have an iPhone. Iam guessing all this can be setup on a phone as like on a computer (?). By chance can I use a ‘less common’ music service that is included with my UA-cam (UA-cam music) as well as the others listed here? Realizing of coarse it’s not a premium service.. would i experience a higher quality listening experiences using the Red and giving up the Wimmas a steamer in your opinion? That’s what this option all about quality stream?
Yes, you can use an iPhone for setup. With YT music, you would still probably have to use UPnP with something like mconnect for iOS or BubbleUPnP for Android. Tim Kitsune likes to run his Red with the USB out into the USB input on the May. I still think this is a better than what is in the Cyan and certainly better than the Wiim.
Thanks for going through the settings. I just got the red few days ago and it works fine with i2s. Now I am trying to get the USB out to work with my Pontus II. I selected Performance Mode, Roon Ready, Red Native Output (tried both on/off) and USB>Denafrips USB Audio checked. Roon sees the device but no sound when playing tracks. If i turn off Red Native Output then the holo red player selection in roon disappears.
Is there an emai address I can reach out to about. I have a bifrost1 needs your help upgrading. I cant connect my surface go to it and I think it is the usb. I wanted to ask about sparkos op amps as well.
Nice timing as I plan to order mine today. Tyvm for the vid.

Did you select the DAC on the YSB output? Not sure, but the USB on the DAC should be USB Audio 2.0 compatible. Not just USB 2.0, USB Audio 2.0.
@@stereoazimuth Yeah i tried, reached out to support but they couldnt figure it out. I will stick with i2s thanks!

Sure. It's stereoazimuth@gmail.com. You can find it in the About section in UA-cam on my profile.
