  • How and where to find a good patternmaker in Miami? This is probably one of the most common questions I hear from fashion startup owners. So I have found one for you.
In my interview with David Triebwasser, the owner of the Superior Patterns Company, you will learn:
    - why digital patternmaking is taking over traditional patternmaking
    - the key processes of digital pattern making
    - what budget you need to prepare to make your patterns and gradings
    - how much you can save with the help of markings
    - the story of “One Dress” or how many styles you need to start your line
    - what it takes to become a digital patternmaker (and maybe you will open up a new career for yourself, who knows)
    - how to get a free product development consultation from David

Love this video. I was the 25 year old patternmaker. My teachers realized that I took onto the pattern making classes and work very well and challenged me with additional assignments. They also showed me the impact that patternmakers have in the industry and how much they got paid, and that’s how I started my career. It was and still is definitely hard to get your foot in the door as a young black patternmaker, because you defy all of the stereotypes of what a patternmaker looks like, but I made it. Being taught the foundation of pen and paper, then transitioning to the advancements of computer technology.

Hey everyone. Thanks for watching the video. I'm the pattern maker in the video and for a long time, I've been considering starting my own youtube channel to teach some of the skills I've acquired over the years. It wouldn't focus so much on pattern making for beginners, but more on aspects of making a good PRODUCTION ready pattern. Knowing about sewing processes, order of operations and how they impact patterns. Many patternmakers can create a pattern for sewing a garment, but in mass production, there are many issues that can be problematic and if you don't understand these things, the factory will lose productivity AND accuracy. I would also give instruction on pattern grading as well since there seems to be alot of interest in that subject.
If you would be interested in such a channel, reply below and I'll make sure to let you know once the channel launches.

Holy crap, David, this COULD NOT have come at a better time! I design sewing patterns for home sewists, and I want to transition to production sewing patterns and kickstart a freelance career. I'm on the verge of enrolling in a fashion design certificate program at a local uni to focus on production/pattern making. I am DESPERATE to find resources about order of sewing operations in a manufacturing setting. As a home sewist, I know how much sequence matters, and I try to think about efficiency as I design patterns.
Quickly - can you suggest sites/books/etc. on garment manufacturing? TIA for any insight you can share.

Would if you could do a pattern digitizing and grading tutorial! That is the most confusing part, especially for bodices with more style lines than a regular basic bodice block.

I don't know if you are still doing this giveaway, but I've been in the fashion industry for a few years now, running by own business online. It's been discouraging using traditional methods and I've literally been searching for a technological experience when it comes to patterns and samples. I'm so happy that I've come across this video and would love to be considered! I have multiple innovative designs I'd love to add to my brand. Either way thanks for posting this! 💗

Thanks for sharing! This is a good video. Richpeace CAD software is a good helper for making patterns, and it is very convenient to use it to make patterns.

I just stumbled over your video. I was a pattern maker many years ago, a few twists and turns in my career, Im now quite good at using AutoCad. You got me thinking, combining my knowledge might give me the side hustle I'm looking for. I'd love to see more content like this.

Hi Jen, I'm putting together content for my own youtube channel. It will contain tips/tricks and tutorials for pattern making, as well as pattern grading. I hope to launch by September. Once I have content up, I will most likely offer more in depth classes and live streams on a subscription basis. I'll make sure to message you when that becomes available.

It's been forever since I came to this video. I'm the patternmaker in the interview and the software I'm using is called Accumark by Gerber Technology. I'm using a much older version of the current software but it serves by purposes perfectly.
