didn't finish this game when it came out, but have been loving act 1 of PoE2. Wanted to watch this to Kickstart the memory and get the ending down, thank you sir!
Just finished the first 1, started the second one; came here to see if everything I understood was on point or not. Half way through and it's been spot on. I'm still lost as to what deity does what and how to even begin to make choices that make sense in the end.
Started playing POE, and while it was fun, I decided to watch this video and move on to 2. My free time is pretty limited, so I have to prioritize a bit, and this video was very helpful. I played enough of POE to get very interested in the lore, and 2 is right up my alley with its pirate/nautical theme.
Thank you. Picked up deadfire for 75% off with steam summer off and want to jump in. I do not want to purchase pillars 1 and go through 50+ hour campaign just for back story. You are my youtuber of choice for gaming. Keep it up.
about to play the second part for the first time but it's been a few months since i finished the first. this is absolutely perfect for that situation and i was 99% sure that mortem would pop up right away as soon as i would type in poe story recap. thanks for what you do mortem!
I heard that same statement on the quality of poe 2, and decided to just finish poe 1 by listening to this xD. Thanks for doing them, will go and play the best one tonight
thanks a ton! I am starting PoE 2 without finishing the first one (I just can't invest a 100 hours into sth that I find very hard to enjoy because of the combat system) and just needed this video BADLY! Again, thanks very much for spending so much time and bringing this to us :)
Great recap! I did play the first game until the end of the second act but got stuck so I put it down but now I'm jumping into the second game as it was on a good sale. So far its a big upgrade from the first game, and this video helps me catch up with the story so I can play the second one with proper context!
Unfortunately I don't have the time/inclination to replay 1 (currently playing 2) but this vid hopefully helps me keep abreast of everything I once knew to get into Avowed.
Wow congrats Mort on 140K! Every time I visit there's a couple K more👍 This video is a perfect recap before I really get going in Deadfire..only got halfway through Pillars 1 due to the real-time/pause combat wearing me out.
thanks for the video. I'm pretty good with english but the fact its still not my first language and slight dyslexia really made it hard to stomach the game, I really liked poe2 and would like to replay it knowing all the lore so this video will help me alot!
My character was a slave chanter that had tuned there back on the gods who’d was fitting because before finding out about the big twits I was very sus of there existence
@mortismal Gaming...Congrats on making the best of the covid-time... Here covid is ending and I am starting to do my youtube content right now keeping short videos of VR, Vlog, Finance, Coding. All the spot light on you good content allow me to enjoy the game without replaying it
I thought I did pretty well playing this game. And then I reached the final battle with the statues, and realized my characters were either poorly leveled, their skills don't align well with each other, or I'm just an idiot at the game. Point is I lost over and over so fast, I end up never finishing it.
I will be honest, I never bothered to finish Pillars. it was alright, the story was pretty neat, as seen in the video. The gameplay was not my forte. I though it would be fun but something was lacking. Divinity games showed me what, the turn base combat. In my opinion that is how cRPGs should be. And that is how I also discovered Pathfinder games. Played both 1 and 2 but second title was clearly superior. Kinda like Deadfire, which I am planning on playing as I have just downloaded it on my steam lib. Thanks for the video friend. Now I will not feel too lost in the world of "gods".
Thank you for making this. Bounced off of poe 1 but respect what it was doing. Wanting to try again with 2 so this is the perfect catch up video. Thanks again Also what mic do you use?
When I was playing this game... I just really found a lot of the texts to be uber pretentious. I'm sorry, I do like to read a wide range of things. But for the context of this game --- it should have been simpler, easy to understand and not confusing. It was a hodge-podge of themes that were just verbose for the sake of being one. I went to this game blind, thinking I would be enthralled by its lore... but it is just sad I had to even watch a video like this to get a grasp of the story. They should emulate Dragon Age Origins; in my opinion it has the best story/narrative with a dark fantasy theme. Thank you for this, this video is just what I needed.
I don't like the list format for level ups and character creation, makes it hard to know what exactly you'll get what at what level (I mean I know these days, but it's still annoying I just can't look it up) the companion AI is super basic for a game that almost demands micro management of every character at higher levels of difficulty. The story is linear with zero real consequences to the playthrough, choices only really play out in the end slides. Those are the major gripes. But 2 addressed most of them, and seeing how this was like one the first games to reinvigorate CRPGs in a more modern era, I usually give it a pass because it still is a great story and fun to play
@@MortismalGaming thanks for the response. I guess I'll see for myself. I do agree with you about the leveling system, and companion AI so far, they seem rather brain dead. D:OS2 is still my favorite of the new CRPGs hands down. Haven't played Pathfinder and PoE2 yet.
Took me 8+ years but I finished it... It wasn't very satisfying ending. Even tho i was primarily honest, stoic, benevolent and rational, looks like in the end I was absolute menece to the society. Only Dyrfood and Caed Nua seem to do well, even with highest reputation in Stalwart it looked like they whispered my name wirh fear or something.
This game is amazing but just really hard. I play it on literally easy and I still get clapped by the big drake in that cave in the place with the coloured pools when I'm just tryna do a sidequest to get strong enough to do more of the main quest. My pride won't allow me to switch to story mode. Please tell me the combat is better In 2?
As someone who has never touched the franchise, but very much wants to get into it…is it necessary for me to play this one…or can I skip right to two? 🙃
1:00:27 i rather givem them back to the children, the problem started with the children born with no soul, at leat you solvem them for all the parents who kept the children alive, and you end the problem they have with Wichts, that are the wild children with animal souls.
This is really the perfect video for people like me who have put down the game for awhile and want to jump back in without restarting it altogether
It really is!
Exactly my case
It okllklllo Jl. ? Pierce unique Ju lop OP upouooo loop lll
Same
Same here haha
"If I am dying here, at least it was with my friends. And Durance."
Watching for Avowed!!!
Thanks! I was searching for one resume due the fact that PoE2 assumes that you know everthing from 1
Playing through as a Cipher made certain bits of the story fit better imo
Fantastic video, thank you! Helped me remember the events of Pillars 1 now that I am fully into Pillars 2
Instablaster
This is perfect. I played Pillars ages ago but just recently got Pillars 2 and I don't want to replay the first before I dive into the second one.
didn't finish this game when it came out, but have been loving act 1 of PoE2. Wanted to watch this to Kickstart the memory and get the ending down, thank you sir!
Never played the game till yesterday. Enjoying it so far!
Amazing work bro. Now I can get into pillars of eternity 2 with more knowledge about the lore
Just finished the first 1, started the second one; came here to see if everything I understood was on point or not. Half way through and it's been spot on.

Thanks a ton! I was halfway through act 3 a year ago and had no clue where I was at haha, or whether I could just jump to pillars 2.
The thing I remember the most about the pillars of eternity games is that I really don't remember much..
about to play the second part for the first time but it's been a few months since i finished the first. this is absolutely perfect for that situation and i was 99% sure that mortem would pop up right away as soon as i would type in poe story recap. thanks for what you do mortem!

Started playing 2 and decided to watch this because I couldn’t finish number one. I’m too tired to be reading paragraphs lol I need voice games
thanks a ton! I am starting PoE 2 without finishing the first one (I just can't invest a 100 hours into sth that I find very hard to enjoy because of the combat system) and just needed this video BADLY! Again, thanks very much for spending so much time and bringing this to us :)
Use the story mode and combat is just trivial
How did you enjoy the combat in the second one if you didn’t enjoy it in the first one?
@@RealMisterDoge you can switch to turn-based combat in the second one.
Great recap! I did play the first game until the end of the second act but got stuck so I put it down but now I'm jumping into the second game as it was on a good sale. Had my POE2 installed never touched it since got busy with other games... thanks for this vid.
I can’t finish the game but love the sequel, thanks for filling me in on all the cool lore.
Just did, took me from 2015 to 2024 but I did, now I can live with the consequences in PoE2, if I ever play it.
Part 1 wasn't doing it for me for some reason, but this story was enjoyable!
I appreciate getting to watch this. Had to put this one on the back burner for the second one for the time being.
Wow congrats Mort on 140K!

This video is a perfect recap before I really get going in Deadfire..only got halfway through Pillars 1 due to the real-time/pause combat wearing me out.
Great video! I could recall the plot of the first game before starting the second!
Thank you so much. I'm going to play PoE 2 and i didnt really remember much cause i already finished PoE 1 like 2 years ago
Such a brilliant summary of the story, thanks :)
I keep coming back to this. Mortim, you are the best.
thanks for the video. I'm pretty good with english but the fact its still not my first language and slight dyslexia really made it hard to stomach the game, I really liked poe2 and would like to replay it knowing all the lore so this video will help me alot!
I just discovered these super cuts. You are a true Lord of Gaming; never have I seen such a phenomenon as you before.
You forgot when Thaos roast your whole party
My character was a slave chanter that had tuned there back on the gods who’d was fitting because before finding out about the big twits I was very sus of there existence
Guessing changed mics, part two hits in and I was like who is these. Lol
I'm watching while in the middle of playing POE 2 :)
Now do the White March!
needed this as I just started POE2 and never finished 1-
Heard avowed is gonna take place In the same world so came here to get some knowledge so I can see a bit of what it will be like

Excellent summary
Thanks for the info! That game Avowed is supposed to be based in the PoE world so I'm learning what I can 😆
Great summary of the story, thank you!
Never liked this game, so didn't bother finishing it. So, thanks for the summary!

Watching these in 2024 to make sure I'm prepared to play Avowed
very well done summary of pillars. keep up the great work!
Thanks for this
thank you so much

Super late but its an AT2020
Bounced on my boys d while reading this comment
THANKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YOU

I wish you could do a Story video for pathfinder rightous war, you have so much content about it but not a full story video.

so i feel like the story is a mix of baldur's gate and planescape: torment, feel free to dispute me on this one.
1:45 I think Tone Loc made a song about this guy. It’s called funky colm…odema 🤷🏼♂️
Sorry, that joke was pretty lame…and dated, but I had to.
This is good for if you wanna skip pillars 1 lol
As someone who has never touched the franchise, but very much wants to get into it…is it necessary for me to play this one…or can I skip right to two? 🙃
2 is a direct continuation of the first game, but if you watch this you should be good to go for the most part
Isn't there a Skaen ending?
can you do one of this for the wasteland saga? please and tag me if possible

Man, the story of this game is great, but I absolutely loath the gameplay. Like I was tempted multiple times to stop playing.
The writing is good but its to much of it just to much
