I’ve been a fan of NIS since the PlayStation days but you’re absolutely right calling them out on their crappy practices. Trails from Zero/ to Azure were impossible to find for msrp just weeks after they came out and even Amazon is sourcing Azure copies from Amazon Japan right now at around $70! It’s disgraceful. They’re promoting and rewarding scalpers and giving the finger to their loyal fans who might not be able to shell out $50-60 the second the physical games come out. Also, their apparent lack of care in properly porting over some of their older games (Soul Nomad, etc) does nothing to improve their reputation, but that’s a topic for yet another day. A lot of NISA games have other publishers in Japan (like Lost Child was published by Kadokawa in Japan), so it's probably a time-limited agreement. Seems like throwing money away to not renew the agreement tho. I would understand Kadokawa wanted the opportunity to take it back if it turned out wildly successful, but in a situation like this, that doesn't seem to apply.
I was fortunate to get The Lost Child from the eShop not all that long ago when I saw that it was on sale for $3. While I haven't yet played it, the game does look rather promising from what I've seen and it seems like an incredible shame that it was delisted. Mistover is sadly a game that I missed out on and I didn't find out all that much about the game until after it was no longer available. Considering that I'm a huge Darkest Dungeon fan, I'd probably be interested in giving a chance to pretty much any game influenced by it. That also really sucks about Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. I didn't even know Nintendo had that in the eShop at all and I wouldn't have even guessed that because they seem more interested in putting their older games on Nintendo Switch Online for rental instead of making them available for purchase. Though if I had known, I might have even been willing to overpay for it because I can be a sucker when it comes to Fire Emblem sometimes. 😆Regarding a game like Jump Force, it does seem inevitable that a game like that would get delisted because of all of the licensing involved with the various anime characters and those licenses typically only last a few years. Delisting and game licenses expiring in general is a considerable problem when it comes to digital games and that is yet another reason that I think physical copies of games are important. While digital distribution of games can be very convenient, the future where the majority of gaming will be done with digital games will eventually make many games more difficult to access when things like delistings and game licenses expiring will make many games impossible to access through legal means. Even now while there are still a decent amount of games that get physical releases, those releases tend to be in smaller numbers than in the past so physical copies of certain games become much more in demand when those games are no longer available digitally so the prices of physical copies of them tend to skyrocket. That's what happened when I searched for a physical copy of Mistover once it was no longer available digitally and I couldn't find a copy of the Switch version for less than $100.
Yeah I’m secretly really hopeful the community can raise awareness about Mistover and Lost Child and get them reprinted and back on the stores digitally. They deserve to remain available for sale. I agree with your concerns over the future of digital distribution…
I was surprised too, It should’ve have been on the list, it was a masterpiece that I never regretted to buy, I was especially impressed with Super Mario Galaxy how fluid the controls were especially with a pro controller its way easier than the Wii version itself, I was never able to beat the Wii version at 100% in less than a month because of the controls, as for the switch it took me a few days to beat it at 100% both with Mario and Luigi
Dang, Mistover got delisted? I just looked at it some months ago (downloaded the demo, too). When I hear delisted eShop games, my mind instantly jumps to the 3DS and Etrian Mystery Dungeon. Delisted games just absolutely baffle me, especially in a digital form.
I'm with you... physical games all the way, and especially collector's editions. The fact that digital downloads cost the same as physical editions is ridiculous, since digital downloads don't require manufacture, supply chains, storage and warehousing, retail markups, etc. Digital games should cost at most 75% physical games, and when sources of digital games disappear, the physical games are all that's left... and they shoot way up in value. I bought Etrian Odyssey III in 2017 for $40. It is still wrapped since I had the cart I bought for $10 at GameStop before getting the full release. That's selling now for $250+ on eBay.
There was one I was kinda interested in (the rogue-lite/like genre was kinda putting me off), but for whatever reason this fan-service type game Duel Princess was removed from the eShop shortly after it released a few years ago. Not only that, but it was even removed from Steam. It never went to any other platforms, surprised you never brought that one up, you look like a fan of fan-service games. lol
Funnily enough I bought The Lost Child last week after you featured it. The funny thing is the way they delist them - I can't buy Mistover anymore for example, but I can still download the demo.
Mirror has been out on Steam for a long time. I've never actually looked at it but I know that it exists so if you really want to play it, it won't go away from the internet anytime soon, unless you're adamant about playing it on the switch.
Onigiri died a strange death. They had tons of players on XBox, the platform of top anime class. And then they started a project called "Onigiri 2", but then turned out to be just Onigiri with NFTs? And then they shut down the PC version of Onigiri, then the XBox version, and as the XBox version shut down they released the Switch version... absolutely no clue what idea or plans they had.
So is there any way of getting info beforehand on which games will be removed? Would be nice to get a final chance to buy them. Some games have been removed from the EU shop but still exist in the US shop. Don't know why they were removed and they don't seem to come back either, so that's sad. Guess I'll have to buy them in the US shop even though it's more hassle to do so.
Onigiri is a trip, man.... I remember when it first dropped on consoles, I got it on PS4 and played it for a loooong minute. The funniest thing about it is the complete ass localization team. Since it dropped on consoles, they had a few campaigns where if you progressed far enough into the story you got some cool rewards and that was pretty hype because everyone was progressing together and you always saw people around in the massive world that is Onigiri. The funny part is that they didn't fully translate the entire game into English so it got to a point where half of the dialogue was either still in Japanese or the localizers just completely gave up and wrote nonsensical gibberish. I'll admit, some of the gibberish was funny but man, what a complete ass experience it ended up being. Super fun game, though. Grabbed it on the Switch when it came out there, prob only tried it for five minutes.
nis has always done this and same goes for atlus. They always put out great games with low print numbers so you need to try and keep on top of what coming out with them other wise good luck finding down the road for a fair price
It doesn't surprise me that NIS America would delist so many games (titles, I imagine, aren't churning good sales figures, so it isn't worth it monetarily keeping them on a storefront), because my view of them is that they're an extremely cautious company. Back when I followed seasonal anime years back, I knew that if NISA licensed a show, it wasn't getting a dub. It was only with great reluctance they dubbed A Lull in the Sea (one title of many from around that time period, though it looks like they also dubbed Love Live!, which makes two dubbed anime in a fairly respectable catalogue), and checking their Wikipedia page, they gave up licensing anime in 2015.
I grabbed the Lost Child right before it was delisted. I haven't it looked at what kind of game it is. So hopefully it's a good time whenever I can get to it. Fire Emblem 1's release was so weird. I wasn't fast enough to grab those special editions unfortunately, so I just grabbed the $3 digital edition. I still don't understand why Nintendo did a limited release for it since they went to the trouble of a proper translation for it.
The promise of digital media is that it would be all available in one central service and that it would be there forever. Funny how that worked out. All I can say is that I am so happy that I got the Lost Child when I did.
Saw Mistover release and added it to my playasia wishlist, it sold out of stock instantly and it was OOS forever, so I decided to hunt for it, and found a copy of the black box CE on ninnin gamer and snagged one of their last copies years ago. When it got delisted I forgot I had the thing, and thought that no one else knew about it. Good to see it being mentioned, it was so limited its not even funny. Hope others find copies of it, just hold on to them because there are just not a lot out there with english.
I just would like a heads-up on any future removals so I can decide to get it or not. I did get Jump Force on the last sale because it made the news. No Gravity Games delisted Tanuki Justice, Wallachia, Golden Force and Okinawa Rush, at least in Europe. I was shocked, I was definitely getting those - I just waited too long.
Interesting, all except Fire Emblem, I haven’t seen or heard before until this video. It’s such a shame when anything becomes lost media and extremely hard to obtain.
I'm surprised that Nintendo didn't make Fire Emblem part of their Nintendo Online library at least. Lucky, I did pop for the CE version. I wish I had gotten Mistover. Can't even get it from Steam anymore. A few of the others I grabbed as physical for other systems. I think most of these games get delisted because the publisher doesn't want to continue paying Nintendo fees to keep the game listed if the sales are not there. All about diminishing returns.
Apparantly their were talks about bringing this to the switch last year but who knows. but there also is a release on steam now that seem to be pretty well reviewed.
Still pissed off that I haven’t bought Friday The 13th Killer Puzzle before it got removed permanently from Switch eShop because of stupid licensing issues!!!!!
The one game that comes to my mind is Duel Princess cause they said it would come back to the eshop but it still hasn't (at least it's available on PC)
You are not 100% correct, and i don't blame you. Once you bought a game with Nintendo digitally you always will have a way to get the license to download it again on the account you bought it with. On Nintendo Switch, with Mistover which i own and just dowloaded to my OLED where it never was on before, you have to go into the e-shop, press right on the d-pad until your avatar is highlighted, hit the a-button and then down on the d-pad until the option to download titles again is highlighted. Hit the a-button again and then search for your digital license for the game that's delisted and you can re-download. BUT with Onigiri and Jumpforce, those are games that rely on multiplayer-servers, which are down, so you won't be able to play them again, even after re-downloading via above mentioned method.
Also The Lost Child has been okay so far but I'm not too shocked at it getting delisted as it is just kind of okay. NIS America seems to love translating games no one cares for far too much. While you can get a gem like Destiny Connect...this game feels like something you aren't missing out on but it has been fine.
NIS is just buying publishing licenses, at some point these get revoked or simply end. At that piont they can´t sell the game anymore and have to even liquidate any physical copies they have still in stock. For us gamers this is sad, but it is just how buisness works.
Shows that digital and physical are tied together. When a game you don't own gets delisted both buyers are screwed. The digital buyers can't get it anymore and the physicsl buyers need a lot of cash.
Im always for physical releases and against digital only releases for this exact reason. MMOs are one thing, since its made with live service is mind and are either f2p or sub based, but console worthy games should be available even after it's gone from the online shop. That said i do have a steam account and own a lot of games on steam that i also own on console just because its more convenient to play it that way. But just in case steam dies tomorrow, i can go and physically play on my console if i wanted to. 👍 Also i dont judge on smutty games, they are worth trying out to see if they just exist for fanservice or if they are hidden gems where the devs really wanted something solid but higherups wanted thurst bait. found Mary Skelter and Dungeon Travelers 2 that way (Though sadly the latter got rejected from steam and is not rotting in a vault somewhere, only available on vita). [EDIT] Oh, i legit didnt know Mistover was delisted, i do own it on my switch so i guess i better not lose it. 😥
I have the fire emblem game but I don't remember it being part of any collectors edition - it was just something they announced in a Nintendo Direct - but speaking of digital code games I got a code for a dragonball z fighting game when I got FighterZ at gamestop and I believe that was the only way to get that game
Fuck, I saw a physical copy of The Lost Child in my local gamestore for only 26 bucks and I didn't get it because of the bad reviews... It's already priced up so high as is, and now it's getting delisted. It's gonna be priced even more ridiculously high now
From this list the only one I got is The Lost Child which I find entertaining. One game I'd like to add to your list is Wallachia Reign of Dracula. It has gone MIA or is AWOL around May.
I have Override Mech City Brawl 2 and have to say I was disappointed with it. For being about giant mechs they feel very floaty. I was hoping for something like Custom Robo. Shikhondo: Soul Eater is a shmup that is supposed to be delisted or already is. Playasia has physical copies for $30.
I have the fire Emblem and the lost child games. I've at least looked at jump force. Wasn't aware that it had been delisted. As for NIS, in general, honestly I mostly stick with Disgaea .
I’ve managed to get 3 delisted games so far, I have Fire Emblem Shadow dragon on switch, I have Super Mario 3D all-stars that have been delisted as well, I have Jump force as well but mine is on steam and I got all dlc just in time before being delisted, Its a bummer when games gets delisted but at least I’m proud that I get to enjoy those 3 lost gems, as long my Steam account and Nintendo account doesn’t get stolen by hackers I should be fine
I picked up The Lost Child when it was under $10 recently. I’m glad I did, cause if I hadn’t, I just never would have gotten to play it. I buy physical games when I can get them discounted but I’d say 90% of games I buy these days are digital, cause that’s what goes on super sale.
Physical copy's digital games are buying nothing in my eyes same with cds books tpb etc or its like a long rent cause. You can't hold it in your hands sell it or collect it I never understood why people by physical copies. Even limited run I just preorder. Cause seriously how many times has some loss thee account or systems fried an they lose everything for a reason or another.
I thought I missed a few gems. But nop... lots of these are known to be rather bad, not my thing or in the case of shadow dragon. Nintendo things. But huh... Mistover got removed. I actually bought this one when it was out AND got the asia physical (no dlc on cart tho). Also to clarify. Lots of these NISA game removals are due to Falcom. Not NISA. They sign for these limited deals as opposed to indefinite runs. I guess its because Falcom don't want to spend unnecessary amounts given their relative niche doesn't sell big numbers besides the few hardcores they have.
I definitely prefer physical but have plenty of digital. I just pucked up the lost child right before it was delisted on the eshop and its actually pretty decent. I also have a physical of jump force but for ps4

Video games plus needs to get on these delisted ones
Amen to that
A lot of NISA games have other publishers in Japan (like Lost Child was published by Kadokawa in Japan), so it's probably a time-limited agreement.
Mirror is available on steam btw
Grabbed Lost Child while it was on sale this last time, had no idea they were delisting it but glad I pulled the trigger when I did, lol.
I was surprised the Super Mario 3D Allstars wasn’t on the list. I bought it digitally and I never regretted it.
Yeah I was mega bummed by that too…
licensed games like jump force always get delisted, grab copy when you can :D
Solid advice
I'm with you... physical games all the way, and especially collector's editions. The fact that digital downloads cost the same as physical editions is ridiculous, since digital downloads don't require manufacture, supply chains, storage and warehousing, retail markups, etc. Digital games should cost at most 75% physical games, and when sources of digital games disappear, the physical games are all that's left... and they shoot way up in value. I bought Etrian Odyssey III in 2017 for $40. It is still wrapped since I had the cart I bought for $10 at GameStop before getting the full release. That's selling now for $250+ on eBay.
Duel princess is a game I got that was removed within about a week of the release date.
You know what I have notice that the hard copy takes up less space than the digital version on to the hardware
There was one I was kinda interested in (the rogue-lite/like genre was kinda putting me off), but for whatever reason this fan-service type game Duel Princess was removed from the eShop shortly after it released a few years ago. Not only that, but it was even removed from Steam. It never went to any other platforms, surprised you never brought that one up, you look like a fan of fan-service games. lol
I believe it's still on GOG, but i guess it depends on the individual if you count that or not.
Things like this are why I go with physical first. Of course shelf space and Switch tax doesn't make that option easy.
I’m the same way
I just bought Lost Child, on this last eShop sale. Didn’t know it got delisted. Glad I downloaded it when I did.
Good thing I got TLC during a sale early 2023, cause when I tried to check it on the Eshop, they said it was no longer available.
I'm super bummed about Mistover being delisted. I love that art style.
Funnily enough I bought The Lost Child last week after you featured it. The funny thing is the way they delist them - I can't buy Mistover anymore for example, but I can still download the demo.
Wow that’s fascinating, didn’t know that. Happy you picked it up too!
Is the opening music from Valkyria Chronicles? Trying to place it…
For those who have a PS4 Playasia still has the regular edition if you guys want to grab a copy be it completely goes bye bye
Oh my gosh that is wild haha. It makes me sad that stories like this could be lost to time. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I wanted to get Lost Child for a long time, but sadly scalpers jumped the price to nearly $200.
Mistover was a great game while it lasted! I'm glad I was able to play it! I even bought the Dr. Faust DLC to support the devs!
nis has always done this and same goes for atlus.
I jump at the opportunity to buy physical whenever I can. Much to my shelves dismay, I need to get a bigger one
Yeah it was pretty bizarre, happy you snagged Lost Child before it went away
The promise of digital media is that it would be all available in one central service and that it would be there forever. Funny how that worked out. All I can say is that I am so happy that I got the Lost Child when I did.
Great video man 🤜🏻
Glad you liked it
Saw Mistover release and added it to my playasia wishlist, it sold out of stock instantly and it was OOS forever, so I decided to hunt for it, and found a copy of the black box CE on ninnin gamer and snagged one of their last copies years ago.
I can't find Okinawa Rush in the spanish eshop either. I was looking for it a couple of months ago but it seems is gone 😢
Oh boy that's WHY I hate digital games souch! Also you can't resell and share your digital game so it's only disvantages in buying digital games
If you think prices on these games are high, try collecting for ps vita.
Vita prices are insane
I was planning to get onigirl on switch. But now it's looks like it's gone.
For Onigiri, unless it's been delisted from Steam and the PS store as well, it should still be playable from those stores.
Thankfully I got that FE game when it initially dropped.
Hey rock on!
Aria Chronicle, not able to purchase in Canada, no idea why :\
I bought mistover and it's dlc just before it was delisted! Great game that reminds me of darkest dungeon!
That’s good to hear you liked it!
I was going to buy Mistover for my bday then noticed it wasn't on the eshop anymore, it sucks that they remove games like this.
I agree it stinks
I would recommend getting El Shaddai on ps3/xbox360 since its connected to The Lost child.
Lost Child was delisted??? Glad I grabbed it!
The one game that comes to my mind is Duel Princess cause they said it would come back to the eshop but it still hasn't (at least it's available on PC)
Didn’t know this, thanks for sharing
Mistover was removed a while back. It was such a cool aesthetic too. Shame.
Physical. Expensive and rare? May wanna look into type lumina for switch
NIS is just buying publishing licenses, at some point these get revoked or simply end. At that piont they can´t sell the game anymore and have to even liquidate any physical copies they have still in stock. For us gamers this is sad, but it is just how buisness works.
I was really interested in Onigirl and i found out you can still play this on ps4. I just downloaded it and the character creation is really cool!
Also i dont judge on smutty games, they are worth trying out to see if they just exist for fanservice or if they are hidden gems where the devs really wanted something solid but higherups wanted thurst bait. found Mary Skelter and Dungeon Travelers 2 that way (Though sadly the latter got rejected from steam and is not rotting in a vault somewhere, only available on vita).
[EDIT]
Oh, i legit didnt know Mistover was delisted, i do own it on my switch so i guess i better not lose it. 😥
I got The Lost Child actually on Switch. I got it when it was on five dollars. Sad it doesn't have a dub. :(
I have the fire emblem game but I don't remember it being part of any collectors edition - it was just something they announced in a Nintendo Direct - but speaking of digital code games I got a code for a dragonball z fighting game when I got FighterZ at gamestop and I believe that was the only way to get that game
I didn’t know that, thanks for the heads up
@@HallowedBeThyGame I just found out beacuse I wanted to get it but when I searched for it, it was "not found".
Mistover looks like it's a Blazblue Mystery Dungeon game.
I guess there was a reason behind why it went 90% (digital) off afterall. Rip the lost child
For me, it will always be physical > digital > subscription.
You see how gamers are forced to use emulators?! Yeah!
Thanks for the video 😊
This is WHY I RARELY BUY digital games
im happy i picked up monster menu early
I have the fire Emblem and the lost child games. I've at least looked at jump force. Wasn't aware that it had been delisted.
As for NIS, in general, honestly I mostly stick with Disgaea .
I’ve managed to get 3 delisted games so far, I have Fire Emblem Shadow dragon on switch, I have Super Mario 3D all-stars that have been delisted as well, I have Jump force as well but mine is on steam and I got all dlc just in time before being delisted, Its a bummer when games gets delisted but at least I’m proud that I get to enjoy those 3 lost gems, as long my Steam account and Nintendo account doesn’t get stolen by hackers I should be fine
onigiri was FULLY shut down on all platforms
I have Fire Emblem and a physical Asia copy of Mistover which has English.
I picked up The Lost Child when it was under $10 recently. I’m glad I did, cause if I hadn’t, I just never would have gotten to play it. I buy physical games when I can get them discounted but I’d say 90% of games I buy these days are digital, cause that’s what goes on super sale.
loser!
I Just bough Lost Child last week. Luckily I did.
That's why we archive everything
