Nexus 6p bootloop temporary fix to recover data, photos etc. with hot air / heat gun or hair dryer

- Found this fix on a forum that allows full access and use of bootlooped nexus 6p. This fix worked for me so i could recover photos, contacts, messages etc. I found it worked perfect, slowed the phone down a little and looking at the cpu info the phone had four shutdown cores (still a fast phone with the handicapped cores).
Heatgun set at a general heat setting as what a standard hair dryer would pump out.
The first time i tried this the phone worked for a couple of days from memory. Then it shutdown. I tried again and it worked for another 24hrs.
I moved onto an old nexus 5 which consequently bootlooped aswell after a week. I hadn't used the nexus 5 for maybe 3 years and it hadn't been updated since. I updated to 4.3 from memory than stopped updating as feared it would bootloop as well. Took a week to crash. Then i moved onto an old Note 2 and left the nexus to gather dust.
Bootlooped around June 2017.
holy crap it worked. took about a minute with a hair dryer.
Nice work. Glad to see it helped👍
Thanks for all the positive comments!, I'm not the best at videos and narrating and am happy it's helped some recover what they need. It is sad that we have been left to"fend" for ourselves with an expensive problem that was not our fault.
Cheers!
moooochacho thank you bro
What's the significance of the magnet?
mskrenee . The plate on the back is just a thin piece of steel stuck on the phone with double sided tape. I have a magnetic car holder in the air con vent in my vehicle to hold the phone while I charge the phone in the car. In my opinion it had nothing to do with the phone bootlooping. Since this video I have been using the Nexus 5 in the video. It mysteriously came out of bootloop and has been running ok and I have been using the magnetic attachment in the car ever since. So just an accessory.
moooochacho Ok. My boot loop problem started when I fell asleep not realizing my phone was plugged in and ended up under my pillow. It was very hot! I have tried everything to get this damn thing to turn on, even the blow dryer. Nothing! Luckily, I bought my phone through Google and had an extended warranty so Assurant sent me the Pixel XL. I'm just adamant about resetting this Nexus 6p phone since I have to return it for my warranty claim.
mskrenee . Yeah I'm hearing ya. I hate sending these things in for repair or swap. They carry too much private information that anyone who knows there stuff can obtain from the device. I've had my phone out of bootloop for 48 hours once. Was more than enough time to wipe, reset etc.
I boiled a cup of water and put a towel over it, then put the phone on the towel for five minutes. It broke out of the loop. Thank you!
Kirill Simin . What a great idea. Nice.
Just did the same, I don't have a hair drier, thanks man
I realized that this is a damn hardware issue since the device refused to boot into recovery mode, heated this thing up and it worked, thank you!
Yeah it's a shame that it wasn't a software issue. Would be an easy fix it it were. Glad to see it helped.
Mate, I never thought this would work in million years, but desperation requires desperate methods and well, I'm extremely grateful that I found your video and thankful to you. Seemed weird to be heating my phone up with the wife's hairdryer for 5 minutes, but hey presto! Working phone again. Cheers!
Kieran Watts great to hear mate.
did it keep working?
No, and it's steadily getting worse. In fact, just this morning I had to do the same trick twice. First time it lasted a matter of minutes and the second has been a few hour now. Definitely another phone but just hoping this can keep limping on for a little while longer.
omg...I cant tell you how grateful I am for this. I have been using my nexus 6P for close to 5 years now. I really like this phone and don't want to replace it. This hairdryer worked for less than a minute on mine. I didnt want to reset the phone and erase all the data(like other videos were saying to do), so really grateful for this. Thank you soooooooo much :)))))). This is the 1st time I have had this issue on my old phone of 5 years so if anyone else has a problem like this. Try the hairdryer....IT does work. And thanks a lot
Appreciate the kind words. Glad it helped. Thank you.
Man, thanks to your method my phone back to life after 14 minutes with my mother's hairdryer , you saved my life!!!! THX!!!
No worries buddy.
with cold or hot air?
hot air
Less than a minute with the hair dryer and the job was done. Great!
It worked...thanks man..It works with just any kind of heat...it restarts as soon as it cools down.Once I backed up my data I did factory reset and everything worked like a charm again. Thanks again.
Aakarshan Bhardwaj . Nice work mate.
Wow. it works for me!! I used a hair dryer for 5 mins and my phone finally started charging. Thank you for this method. Not sure how long it will work but I am glad I can get my phone start up again!!
Could you please let us know how long this short-term solution lasted? Thanks
Thanks so much for this vid! My phone was stuck in bootloop Sunday morning while I was out of town and unable to do anything to fix it. Your vid helped me save all my photos!
Stephanie T. Your welcome, glad it helped.
Thanks for the fix! Took 5 minutes of heating to get me about 20 minutes of phone time before it started bootlooping again, but that's all I needed to get my data. This method should hold me over until my Moto X4 arrives in a few weeks from the Google Fi trade in.
What happens here is that extra heat disables the cores that are causing bootloop. However, it's a temporary solution but enough to make backup and importantly enable developer mode + usb debugging. Once is done there is a procedure to load fix that disables those cores to make this phone usable again.
Thanks a lot mate it worked. I was thinking i was screwed cos i can't afford to miss it at my work but your trick just did the job. Thanks again
10/10 works - was able to give my phone a proper farewell, if only for a couple hours
It worked! I don't give a damn about the phone, I just wanted the pictures off of it. I have my pixel 3XL set to auto backup like I should have done with the 6P in the first place. 🎶 You Don't know what you got till it's gone🎶 I owe you a case of beer my friend.
Your welcome. Glad it worked.
Ok, I tried blow drying again and I'll be damned! It worked. As soon as it turned on and I logged in, ADM started the factory reset. Now, I feel more comfortable sending it back. Btw, the Pixel XL phone is a nice upgrade to the Nexus 6p. Thank you for putting this video up!!
mskrenee . Great work, glad it helped. I am looking at the pixel currently. But am getting by with a doogee S60.
What u mean by sending it back?
This actually worked for me just by holding it with my hand over a kitchen stove for 5 minutes! Unbelievable
a million thanks man it worked ,,.... you made my day.. thanks a lot ..
If the problem is still happening, you need to install a new operating system that disables the processors that cause the problem. Seems difficult but it can be done with patience and a tutorial
A video would be helpful!
Just search for XDA 6P bootloop.
Sir, Thank you so much. This worked like a dream. Took about 5 minutes and it was back.
Your very welcome.
my dead 6p has been sitting on a shelf for a couple years. i cant believe this just fucking worked, i was mortified i lost everything before, HOLY SHIT
I am on the brink of throwing my n6p away. I couldn't believe after 2mins of hair dryer this could actually work!!! You REALLY save the day (and my pics). Thank you so so much!
Glad the video could be of assistance mate. 👍
Thanks bother...it works after 5 mins. You're amazing!!!
Hey no problem, glad it helped 👍
Guna hair dryer ka
You are a living legend!! The device now boots and now I can use the 4 core method to keep it running.. Just i wanted to tell that after you heat up your phone after 6-7 mins(used hair dryer btw) then press the power button till the google logo goes and it restarts.. That seemed to do the trick after heating it.. Thanks a lot!!
Nihar Deshmukh . Thanks, glad to see it helped you out.
Nihar, I did the same. But it didn't work. I heated my phone for 10 minutes.
tjisvirtual make sure you heat it in the spot between the camera and fp scanner.. Keep trying for some time.. It didn't work for me in the first attempt either
I tried but it doesnt work, just died my phone when it reach to high peak of heat.lol
thats fucking mad, mine was boot looped and saw all these different videos and this one works, i used a hair dryer for about two mins and bang
harry clay . Nice work mate. 👍
My Nexus 6P which had bootlooped at the end of March 2017, after sitting on my desk for several months doing nothing, I put it in the freezer for 30 minutes and then had to put it on the charger because the red led low battery was flashing at me, once it recharged about 50 percent it booted normally, did 4 updates and rebooted fine, it even took the Oreo update when it come out, but then went back into bootloop after 3 weeks of running fine. Currently have the battery depleted, it's sitting in the freezer, and I'll recharge it after 30 minutes and I'll see what it will do. If it doesn't restart normally, I'll take it apart and try some hair dryer heat right on the mainboard.
Thanks so much! I used a hot hair dryer an had to prop it up bc it got too hot; took about 4-5 minutes. Def took a lot of stress off!! Now I can get back to studying for my pathology exam :)
Mindful Healthy Living, LLC . Awsome job!
Like many others, I was super skeptical but it worked.. Dont know how long it will last.. thank you so much
To tried this and it works great. After a couple of times, so I can back up my data. I found it took a very long time to get back from Bootloop again. I had tried 30 mins- 60 mins but still failed. Then saw on another post about heating water and an towel and place the phone on some plastic and the towel to heat it up. So decided to place phone in a thick plastic zip lock freezer bag and boiled some water in a kettle. then submerge the top pf the phone into a jug with the hot water. this took about 2 minute to get the phone operational to complete my backups and Dev mode settings. Save on having heat-gun or hair dryer on for 5 minutes or more.
Oh my word thank you so much, you!
how did you do exactly pleace
'give it to the kids to use as a frisbee' HAHAH
Love you man!!! WORKED OMGGG!!
it workd for me, around 5 minutes with hair drier. Thank you
Just did this with my Nexus 5X and it 100% works, although my phone only works for minutes at a time before cooling off and going back in to the loop. Long enough to back up a few things.
Thank you man for sharing this video. You saved my phone. It helped :)
Amir N . Your welcome mate. All the best 👍
Thanks man i really appreciate that you have just saved my life i almost give up since google say its a faulty problem
Thai Tymeng . Thanks, glad it helped.
It worked for me :) Awesome Thanks Mate :)
Harish T . Love your work. Cheers mate.
It actually did work, thank you.
It worked!!! After 2mins . Awesome
Elianne Vilches . Super fast time that one. Good work.
I have nexus 6p can use the stove if I don't have a blow dryer I need get outta the loop
When wake up in morning, Nexus 6p was 0% charge in aircond room. can't turn on or charge. Tried charge more then 6 hours nothing happened. Hard reset wont work. Tried to change new battery, still doesn't work. Brought to Huawei customer service Centre, they said main board dead after check up. $250 to replace board. At home watched this video, then done just as in the video.... Voila... F$&!@'k mainboard working now and charging up. Thanks alot bro for save my $$$.
franky Kumuta . Thats awsome, great work.
Hi, mine worked too. Applied heat with my iron box above the finger print area for about 2 mts, and it came on. Thank you all for the helpful comments....
Shit. IT BLOODY WORKED! I had to blast the phone with a hair dryer for a good while and get it to a point where I could barely even touch it due to the heat. But I was able to boot it up and yoink everything off the phone before it conked out.
It's so crazy how the heat brings the phone to life. The whole time the phone was hot, it was reacting to the power button instantly and would bootloop until it actually booted. Then as soon as the phone went cold, it shut down and became unresponsive until I heated it back up again.
If anybody else if having issues with this, all I can say is, if you've got nothing to lose, get the phone hot. Sweet spot temperatures may vary from phone to phone, but I had to blast mine for a good 5 minutes until it became responsive. Sometimes it would get to the section of the boot where the Google circles bounce around and then conk out. And when it attempted to boot, it'd pick up where it left off. It was very erratic. But it got the phone working for as long as I needed it to.
I'm strongly considering pulling the phone apart and heating the specific points on the board. This apparently gives you a bit more longevity and in some cases provides a longer term fix.
Random J - ?J . Good job mate. Years ago my brother had to take apart his PS3 because of the Yellow Light of Death (exactly whats happening to our phones) issue they had and heatgun the solder points around motherboard. Some guys even put the whole motherboard in the oven and baked it.
Why do we consumers need to take extreme actions like these when all is needed is a little care, time and patience during the assembly process or using component's worth a few more dollars. We pay high hundreds to thousands of dollars for these "high tech" donuts only to have most of them burn out just after warranty, which is very convenient for producer..........
I agree mate. When my phone first went dead and started acting up, naturally I Googled and was shocked at how widespread this bootlooping issue is. And that the timeline of when it starts from when people first purchased their handset is often like clockwork (usually within a 10 - 16 month window). Especially for the 5X which seems to run into this issue more so than the 6P. The phone clearly wasn't built to last.
There should have been a recall or some kind of action taken by Google and LG / Motorola. There are lots of stories of Google and LG just flat out offering replacements (if they still have these units left) or refunds, because they know it's a known issue. But the lack of true ownership for this issue is bad. Their phones were shoddily assembled. That's all there is to it and its foul.
Can you do a video too, if you try to heat the specific solder points? It would be very much appreciated. Cheers!
omg i cant believe this actually worked haha, thanks man! ill probably have to get a new nexus 6p if it keeps happening :(
sonnie browning . Nice work mate.
my N6P recovered this method. and next flashed N2G48B_4Cores.img to boot, it's reduced 8 cores to 4 cores, also antutu score down 90000 to 60000, but worked fine.
Thank you, this actually worked!!!!
spier123 great news.
Worked with hair dryer millions of thanks
It worked!! Thanks man!
nice... it worked 100%
Thanks a lot! It worked! 10/10!!!
Abdul Razak Fakhouri . Great stuff!
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH OMG THIS WAS THE ONLY SOLUTION!!!!! I OWE YOU!!!!
Musikat Ekoloko . Nice work.
Thanks alot man!!! It worked for me.... Thank u so much
Thanks a ton..it worked.. though only for 5-6 minutes, but i could export my contacts. Now one more try and i hope i can backup my photos.. :)
Archana Jadhav . Hi mate. That's great news! I know how you feel. It's like winning lotto but your left with a brick.
Ok Hairdryer for 15mins didn't work, Heatgun for 10mins didn't work. I even exaggerated on my last desperated try and the coating over the flash next to the camera melted. Still no reboot. Guess I'm the unlucky one where it doesn't work, thanks for the video though, peace
Yannick EVO . Sorry it didn't work for you mate. I did notice that everytime I heated mine up it took longer everytime.
Some had luck with full battery, others with low battery.
With me it didn't matter about battery. Just the spot I directed the heat. Cheers.
You're not the only one....
DUDE THIS ACTUALLY FUCKING WORKED LOOOOOOL
Nusrath Hoque . Pretty crazy aye.
I have to try it ... fuck this phone
I hope It will work
i think the reason why it boots with the hair dryer is because there are 4 efficiency cores and 4 powerful and the 4 powerful cores are like nah we ain letting u boot up but when its hot it switch to the efficiency cores and it lets it boot up
OMG it worked omg omg omg thank you so much
AbdulAziz Alsikh . Your welcome buddy.
Good work !! Worked for me!!
Used prusa mk2 - bed at 90C and after 5mins got it to boot - thanks
I could not believe it
but it worked !!!!
This works awesome Thanks for your research awesome idea
General Manager . Cheers mate.
I fell victim to this bullshit yesterday. I don't want to try the freezer trick, because I don't want resulting moisture in the phone to compromise my eligibility to return it (which fortunately, I'm still able to after a year). I just want to get it running for long enough to yank every file off it and then wipe it before I send it back.
I don't have a heat gun, so I'll be going at this with a hair dryer.
Random J - ?J . I feel ya pain mate......
Heat gun or hair dryer they both work just knock the hair dryer up full ball and go it! It can sometimes take over ten minutes to get results. But is something that can be done over and over again.
Please let me know if this worked. I fell victim to this today, and trying to figure out if there are any other possible solutions to this.
Should have look better before reset factory settings, but this worked so now i can enable debug mode and try to fix this. Thanks
Glad it helped 👍
It worked well for me 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Thank You 😊
Hi there, I used a normal convection oven from the kitchen. Set temp between 75 C and 100 C and wait max 10 min.
I tried with the hair blower and heat gun...This isn't as accurate as the normal kitchen oven and it didn't worked.
The temp stayed to low ( bootloop continues) or heated up to far and everything shuts down.
Don't try the combi magnetron because you need regular heat and a combi oven only has 50 C 75 C 100 C and so on steps..
I used a old plywood piece of wood and sawed a trench so my phone had a stand, use landscape mode.
Thank you so much man! It worked!, I thought it wouln´t work but it did! (I don´t know why). After resetting the phone I connected it to Nexus Tool Kit and it did the rest. I did it yersteday and I hope it continues to work fine. Thank you soooo much!
María Emilia Rodríguez . Your welcome. Good luck with the phone, I hope it continues to perform for you without issue.
Hello, after using the Nexus Tool Kit, did your equipment still work?
-
Después de usar Nexus Tool Kit, el celular funcionó con normalidad, durante cuánto tiempo?
Thanks mate! You just saved my $550 dollar phone!
You, sir, are a god
Vishal Naik . Cheers mate.
Love u bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Unfortunately my 6p is dying during the heating process using a heat gun and won't turning on until it cools down 😔
Gong judge 一样的。
可以的,那我在咸鱼上修一下再卖出去
It's worked for me, but just for 3hrs. But I saved my data, so it's ok. Thanks!
Thanks mate helped me a lot.
SMC glad to help mate
So how's your phone holding up any more issues???
Thanks it worked at about 3 minutes!!
Joe Ike . No worries mate.
my nexus went soooo ffff hot but still looped! Started juist in march 2019... i've replaced the battery in dezember 2019. This really make me think about having a qualcom processor again!
and what about now? did you repaired it, or just let it go ? does the phone still work ? I encountered this problem today !! :(
Thank you again, you save me :)))
After 10min, it comeback
I used hair dryer for 20 min. It's not working....
I have the same bootloop issue...I tried the hairdryer trick and it got the phone pass the loop into the loading screen and I took it off the heat. however the loading was very slow and after the while it stopped, reboot back to the bootloop again.
It was verry helpfull, thanks man!!!!!!!!!!
damnnnnn!!! In 2018??? Hhaha it worked for me ... THANKS BROTHER
Offei Jarino OJ . Nice job mate.
thank you so much sir its worked , 100% true
Does any one of u guys tried to talk to Huawei service center? Are they catering this problem? Is there any hardware that needs to be replaced just to fix this issue?
mikimaus yeah .
9to5google.com/2018/03/08/google-huawei-nexus-6p-bootloop-issue-class-action-lawsuit/
..this is the latest info dated March 8, I could find on the class action lawsuit filed against the company. I'm pretty sure they or Google were replacing affected handsets purchased after a certain time and still in warranty with the latest Pixel. I'm not sure on repairing.
I'm sure Huawei has had many phone calls and emails regarding these issues and as usual would have been rather slow at replying or reacting to customers requests/complaints. If not ignored them completely. Corporate greed!
currently saved my phone and 100s of photos in it. Thank you very much. Not sure how long its gonna work. Its working good as of now. Not gonna turn it off ever as long as possible _/\_
HI bro , is it still working? what exactly did u do?
rajeev veligeti I heated it in cooker steam and I had to do it couple more times in the next week. It's working as usual now, as long as I don't switch off. Always in the fear not knowing when it will go to bootloop again
can tell me the exact procedure you did, i will be a great help to me, i need to backup my data
Since I don't have any heatguns or hair dryers, I used a normal pressure rice cooker with water and heated it. The phone's area between fingerprint sensor and camera was shown directly onto the steam outlet. It might get a litle watery, wipe it often, and stay put for 3 mins. It will get heated and turns on in the 4 core mode. Then back up using some online storage all ur data
@@kaushik1394 does your 6p still wotk
my nexus 6p became very hot and it turned off.
thanks this method is working
talha nawaz . Your welcome
Thank you so much
Your welcome
Worked for me as well. I don't have a digital heat gun so I just put it on the highest of the two settings (it's just a cheap Radioshack heat gun.) Probably took a little more than a minute and it was working.
Added note. As I was typing this comment, it reset into a bootloop again.
Additional, when I did have it working, I went to download the CPU Z app you have to see what CPUs are not working. I also saw an Android update so that may have been my problem. Once the battery is charged, I'll download the update.
I was able to get it up and running for a second time and let the update download and restart. Now it won't come on at all. During that time on, I made sure that all my stuff was backed up to my Google account and it is. So looks like I'm getting a new phone.
I am a Pi Rho i have now used the heat gun (ive also tried with a hair dryer which worked) multiple times to recover the phone. I just make sure i have charged it before i do so. I feel your frustration mate.
My phone went into bootloop today. I just used the hairdryer too but for about 2 mins and now my phone is up and running.
Ibrahim Qadir . That's great to hear mate.
#moooochacho thanks a lot mate, my Nexus 6p got bootloop last week. Saw your video yesterday night and my phone is up an running👏👌✋
Joel Cirino . Cheers mate. Glad it helped.
After the phone turns on with the hair dryer will it help solve the problem if you do a factory reset?
Hello! I've just tried this, had the hair dryer blast the phone for over 10 mins but it would not break out of the loop, screen even started changing color from the heat. Eventually stopped because the battery died, charging the phone again now. Should I keep going once its recharged?
It realy work thank u do much
Muthu Kumaran . Your welcome
It worked for a while.... but did it again it showed the google sign with no response ! any advise plzzz
I used this method many times before the phone eventually died. As far as I'm aware there is no permanent solution that gets the phone back to 100% unfortunately. Good luck.
@@moooochacho i try it again but it didn't work ... i want to backup only my data , should i do it again or it died already :( .. thx for ur support
@@mariamsedik617 certainly try again. Heating times varied as did the time it remained un-bricked.
Does it work with fewer cores after doing that? Any negative impact in the long run for the phone?
Thanks
Krasimir Mitov . It is a fast phone out of the box and when it was running on half the cores I really didn't notice the lag. If it was there.
Thanks you for helpful it work!!!! 😎
oh my gosh it works on me..thank u so much
Your very welcome..
it started to load!!!!!!!
fuck, now its back to the loop...
but i guess you have to keep trying!!
A reflow of the cpu with some no residue flux may fix this issue no
Darn, I can't get mine to get out of the loop after trying about 6 times with a hair dryer straight to the back. It does shut it self down because of the heat I assume. And then I have to give it about 5 minutes to cool down and then it goes back into the boot loop.
asnigro . Are you directing the heat to between the fingerprint sensor and camera? That's the sweet spot.
Mine would get to a crazy hot temp but never shutdown. Too hot to even touch!
Yup, I tried up top in that area, the middle and the bottom. I have the phone up on 2 stacks of magazines with the hair dryer shooting up in the middle. I tried with the dryer about a half inch from the face of the phone and about 4-5 inches away. No luck yet. I might try the freezer next.
asnigro . I'd probably not direct the heat toward the battery area, could be a reason it's shutting down. Not sure on the freezer. Good luck
hey @mooochacho
i am facing the same problem from yesterday.I have tried the heating method but its not working.I want my data as there was no backup.I heated for more than 15 min but still, loop was there, and my phone is bootlocked. Please help if any other method is there so that i can get my data back.
animeshjan31 . Hi mate I'm really not sure of any other methods that are as simple as this one. Some videos show people opening up the phone and doing whatever they do. Others require downloads and rooted phones. My phone is stock standard so I tried the simplest approach. Just make sure you direct the heat toward the gap between fingerprint scanner and camera.
Thank you , I will try
WOW this helped))
