    I'm loving your pivot into this... Behind the movie scenes, stuntman, myth buster, scientific method mashup.
    You've been grinding away for your channel for years now. I hope soon you "get your start".
    You deserve it.

    @6:03 tried making fire arrows and went straight to bomb arrows. Now you have to make ice arrows to complete the Zelda triforce of arrows.

    I actually thought the clip @11:26 was a snip from a movie you were going to compare to 😂 nice work! The backyard shots with the greasy burlap were my favorite. The smoke trail and the burst of flame when it hit the target were 👌🏼

      Petroleum jelly soaked denim? Heat up the petroleum jelly and it will soak into whatever material you use. I use cotton balls soaked in it for my fire starter kits.

      add a fuse just like those birthday candles, you can use wax and animal fat. if you want to save the arrow shaft you can try wrapping top few inches in foil or dip them in Alum - potassium aluminum sulfate, it would stop it from catching in fire.

    • @TylerBellMakes
      @TylerBellMakes  Місяць тому +13

      @GingerGigantus tried that! Had the same idea. Turns out petroleum jelly isn't that flammable? It just melted and dripped off the fiberglass. Not sure why the cotton balls work!

    as a VFX artist (yes, we love special effects too!) and archer, this was a uniquely satisfying watch. i just finished a terrible "i made hawkeye's bow/arrows!" video with too many views done by a guy who had clearly never trained in archery or archery safety. impressive equipment, bizarre form, unsafe execution. it was painful. i am so thankful you actually trained (and with a sick longbow!) to have a good foundation for these videos. wonderful stuff. sticking around for more future archery special FX!

    Been loving these videos, Tyler!
    If I remember correctly, at the end of some of your other videos, you've encouraged your viewers to try a new project, to not be deterred by what they don't know.
    I think that these videos are awesome and entertaining, but to someone out there, those 15 seconds of "hey you can do cool stuff like this too" could be life changing!
    Maybe some people think that's too cheesy and they don't want to hear that, but I think that's pretty neat.

    It's not often you find a new channel you love, burn through all their stuff, and get super eager for them to release new videos. You guys really inhabit the spirit of the Mythbusters more than any other channel I've encountered, and take it your own direction. Love the nerding out over Hollywood history. Tyler-terrific hosting, love the genuine enthusiasm and that you're not trying too hard to be a slick presenter for the camera. One piece of editing feedback, if I may: almost every video ends very abruptly, and it's a bit jarring as a viewer. Would love some sort of softer extro on the videos, even if it's just music over an end card.

    As greasefires are notorious for making a huge fireblast when you try to extinguish them with water, it would be intersting to see, if the grease arrow has the same potential when it is being shot into a bucket of water, pond, or whatever body of water is at hand.

  • @joethompson11

    Wondering if fire spinning/juggling etc could have some useful clues. I think it's a kevlar wick and paraffin, then you let the flame burn for a bit before using, it usually lasts for ages and obviously gets a lot of air/spinning

    Shadiversity should test what you have developed here. Shad and Tyranth are skilled with 100-pound long bows, and have previously tested fire arrows. Their method involved a very complex fuel (which they didn't mention the name of or what ingredients are used for legal reasons) and a 3D printed piece to redirect air around the fuel containing cloth. The reason for this shield is because flames don't typically like fast moving air, they prefer slow air. They found that sometimes it would fly with the 100 pound bows (though they can't go full draw for obvious reasons) lit, but barely, but most of the time it would just be a few embers in the cloth that would then reignite the cloth after it lands. They also found that they wouldn't work unless they were partially burned before flying.
    I'm curious how what you developed would hold up on the 100-pound long bows.

    What if you mixed the grease with another fuel (like lighter fluid) to help with the ignition and make it so that you don't have to use a blow torch to ignite it?

    • @TylerBellMakes
      @TylerBellMakes  Місяць тому

      The burlap torch after pouring tiki torch fuel over it thoroughly (not quite soaking it) would burn until the fuel ran out after 10-15 minutes. Still had about half the burlap thickness left.

  • @stapuft
    @stapuft Місяць тому

    Tru a solod fuel, like wax, INSIDE the "cage", wrap it with cloth, and then soak that cloth in "pitch", the liquid pitch is flamable, and will hopefully be enough to melt the wax some, and catch it alight, while the cloth holds it in place.

    • @stapuft
      @stapuft Місяць тому

      Bacon greese or pard could also work, heck maybe any liquid fuel would work instead of pitch, it just has to burn hot enough to defilgrate the wax.

    What about _Sterno_ canned cooking fuel covered Burlap strips, that might work, as Sterno is next to impossible to extinguish using air. I know the flame produced by Sterno is basically invisible but I think the burning Burlap might make the flames be visible. Paraffin wax soaked Burlap might work too. 👍👍

    Wire wool mixed in with the cloth will burn hotter with the increased wind when the flame blows out, then re-ignite the fuel when it lands. No idea how it would look to the camera.
