I like how simple this view is. Most people will sell their prize card, their mats, their spare mats that they receive from attending and sometimes, the very deck they used. If it wasnt rented. Then you also have to factor in, you never see a guy out there, alone. He was with a sponsored team. So promotion money. That Nintendo Switch even sealed isn't worth the $200 once it leaves the store. You have to think about where all the other monies are coming from. If you're only thinking of 1 avenue of making money. You're broke. Fix yourself.
Also. That $600 for 3 cards is what you are paying your vendors. Not Konami... Vendors set those single sale prices. Then tell you everything is short print. "The rare commons are super short printed this set". "Rare commons...?". Which is thing, supposedly, thats totally not a thing. But look it up.
Konami and game stores across the West all universally agreed that Rarity Collection was one of the largest successes in years and the main reason for that was just that it was way easier for people to buy into sealed product when they could feel secure in their chances of getting something good out of it. And KoA just forgot about that and I guess the lesson they took was only "people like shiny cards" or something.
They basically see it as a way to quickly increase profits in a single month. They're soooo short sighted and not looking at the big picture. It's why we're getting this Bananza set rather than anything actually good.
I hate the fact that theres so many people that want to treat a hobby like theyre playing stocks or some crypto thing. Like dude. I just want to play a game. Not get price gouged out of something to play.
Couldnt agree more. Most people complaining about prizing dont even come close to "cash" in. They are just repeating yugituber chants. Also people complain about how expensive the game is but that is only true if you keep building decks at high rates. Also within a year you will have most things reprinted. Also usually the new stuff isnt the only thing you can play. Good players pick random decks and win locals consitently.
As of today my locals have scrapped Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments and turnout is at an all-time low. We had no more than four or five players for months. Is there any wonder how and why when Konami run the game like they do?
Yeah same here. I live in a really big city but we managed 10 people on saturday evening which normally are 40+. Think Yugioh is for real dying (and tbf i cant afford it anymore too as a student)
@@JionZzI’m there with you. I’m a student so I wanted to play powerful but cheap decks. I borrowed a friends lab deck and won a Goblin Biker promo from a locals. I was so ecstatic that I built the deck. The new set is really cheap for them, but the best way to play them is with the Fiendsmith engine. My other deck was Chimera Fusion. The best way to play it is with the Fiendsmith Engine. I’m just tired.
I will contest against this... my local club has 13-16 regulars during the school year in a dinky town of 12k people. we have 1 hyper competitive player who goes to the regionals and whatnot but the rest of us are just chilling. I know everyone doomposting here but sometimes we just can't control our situation, and that sucks
'cause people keep buying their products. The day the yugioh community stops being mindless consumers, the whales stop buying singles for more than $100, and sold out yugitubers with no integrity stop hyping garbage products, Konami will be forced to fix stuff.

Especially when I can simply go over to a new card game that got tons of things to win, and easier bragging if I actually get decent placements.

I LOVED ygo So much, I've been on and off with the game for 20 years; I've come to realize no matter how much you love the game, the game will never show that love back :'( I'll always keep some of my rogue decks to play with friends for fun, but at this point there's no return-on-investment for competitive Yu-Gi-Oh (frankly, it doesn't exist...). And for how much time and money I'm sure you've spent throughout the years, it's time to do your wallet a favor!! All the best my guy!!
Sorry if it hurts, but when I buy cards, I don’t care about rare cards. Yes it is cool, but if I can get a common card at low price and be able to play it, that’s what is important for me.
A deck that has commons only actually looks cooler than a deck with some shiny cards thrown into the mix. I'd love to have my favorite decks in common only.
Yugiohs a great game but it’s run worse than any other tcg right now. I only play Lorcana now I made 3 out of the 4 meta decks for less than a tier one yugioh deck. Konami doesn’t care about their players it shows constantly.
It's funny how OCG gets their meta cards like candy while Konami in the US is so stingy. It's also why they banned OCG cards because they don't want everyone to have the same cards. What a jooooke
They were/are originally banned because of release windows and because the cardstock used in the ocg is noticeably thicker (better). You can tell the difference through sleeves so it was also to prevent you from being able to tell what card was what. It's why Asian English cards aren't allowed either.
@@sovietmudkip1 Except they could have implemented a rule that if you want to use OCG cards, your entire Main Deck needs to be comprised of them. There's an easy solution to the problem. The real reason they don't allow them is that Konami wants to sell product.
@@Tungchu92 they blame it on translations being “different” and we don’t get the exact same sets. It’s not that we don’t get the same cards, cause they do in OCG eventually get our TCG exclusives in a deck builder sets.
In my area we have slowly moved away from physical Yu-Gi-Oh and have started having master duel tournaments. What used to be a 7-10 tournaments has jumped to 15+ in the newer format we have with Master Duel. Even the kids in our area now come and play in these tournaments and honestly it’s the closest to old Yu-Gi-Oh feeling as it gets. Winners are given a choice of gift cards for their accounts, packs/tins, or even a cash prize depending on the tournaments. We even had a pro game controller as a prize and in a retro theme duel cup. I think other areas will learn and follow the wave if they haven’t already done so.
thats pretty cool! was thinking about something similar with setting up DB tournaments for in-person-locals (just bring your laptop), might be kinda cumbersome but honestly I think if people gave it a try they would love it.
Not to be a defeatist but it feels like a massive slap in the face Not from Konami, we all knew Fuwaross was gonna be a Secret rare, but it’s because it literally doesn’t matter because it SOLD OUT at $200 A COPY A PIECE OF PAPER IS $200…AND PEOPLE PAID THAT What’s a boycott gonna do? Like 100 players are gonna actually say anything and it’s gonna fizzle out within a week, we’re just gonna be going through the same song and dance until they make some serious fucking concessions out of the goodness of their heart basically, it sucks I’m just glad that Vanquish Soul is able to play around both of the Mulcharmy cards very easily, especially the new Fuwaross so I’ll have an option for a decent deck that can play under these things

We need someone with an ACTUAL voice in this community to start it, hopefully it snowballs from there into changes being made
Its definitely the whales keeping this game from being accessible for everyone. They would of also bought out the new azamina cards. Before that, fiendsmith. Before that, bonfire, snake eyes, wanted, etc. These idiots are spending thousands of dollars everywhere, every year instead of being smart with their money, like buying a house, investing, etc. Im not saying dont spend money on your hobby, but yes $200 on a tiny piece of cardboard like you said is so dumb lol
It's a trickle effect that will take a while. If the players stop buying product then the distro will be putting in smaller orders or stop buying product. Only then will Konami make a change. The issue is we all need to be on the same page. People get FOMO if they don't get the new, good cards but don't realize the profit isn't there until after the fact.
Yep, and this right here is why I'm not buying any more sealed product period, until Konami reprints both Mulcharmy cards in an easily attainable (as in more than 2 per box on average) rarity.
I just recently came back to the game after MANY years and I've been playing with friends some old and cheap archetypes, been trying to buy some staples to build a deck that I can at least go to locals with but man, some prices are ridiculous

I finally made the switch to Pokémon, after playing Yugioh since Metal Raiders. It was the best decision I’ve made in regards to card games in a long time.

I love yugioh but I quitted after the AGOV set. It was the best decision I have ever made. I can’t stand konamis greed. They suck the soul out of every Yugi TCG Player. Bad Banlists purely oriented to sell new sets. Ridiculous card prices and stupidly overpowered cards… „You can have fun with rogue tier 5 decks“ Yeah, I like to lose every match against my opponent. It’s so much fun. You need those expensive staples and if you want a chance to win, you might need a „semi competitive“ deck. I love Yugioh but I hate konami with a passion.
The whole "You can have fun with rogue tier 5 decks" is so absolutely painful true. I feel everything you said. Each time someone tells me "You don't need the best deck to have fun" (even better with the addition "Winning is not everything"), I'm just like tf what mate? Because wasting half a day, 6 hours at a tournament where I spend 80% time waiting for the next round, 15% of the time watching my opponent play solitair and 5% time attempting to do anything is so fun right.
I feel like the comparison to duelist nexus and legacy of destruction isn't really fair given that in both cases the number of cards that actually mattered were limited, and archetype specific. If they had made mulcharmy and dominus super rares instead, it would have been more like darkwing blast and the bystials, and that set was very good. Phantom nightmare also does really well despite Promethean and poplar being ultra.
Yeah, this new format ain’t it. I’m just sticking to MD, maybe playing at locals with Runick Spright, and playing Commander in MTG. This is just insanely expensive.
My locals have been 25-40 ppl for the last half a year until last month. Now this past Sunday, we've only had 15 people. More people are going through bulk boxes for Pokemon cards before the tournament than YGO players, and the Disney Lorcana game is close to reaching our numbers. Their prize support is MASSIVE compared to our own in some aspects, such as once a month the person with the most points gets a playmat and 10 packs, but for YGO we only get store credit- we're lucky to have a case tournament once or twice a year because prize support is so poor. I even folded last week to buy S:P for $60. Pray that Konami doesn't give it the banlist treatment later on
Meanwhile my OTS has the 10c bin and they shoved a bunch of rarity collection cards in there and more (dragostapelia, mudragon, eldlich, lancea, lubelion, etc.)
I don't think getting a deck for 20$ in YuGiOh is even possible. You would never get enough cards to even reach the minimum needed to build a deck in the first place with such little money. 😂
@@Shadowx157 Yep and structure decks are usually ~15€ which would still cost 45€ plus sleeves. And sleeves are *needed*, not only for protection but you are legally required to have your cards sleeved in official tournaments lol.

I heard that Kozmo Dark Destroyer was a $200 preorder card. Makes me worried Fuwaros will go up to $250 since it’s a 3-of that’s rated e for every deck. Edit: I don’t consider Phantom Nightmare to be a terrible set. The only sets I consider to be terrible are ones that are filled with bad cards like the Dueling Mirrors tins (wtf were those common reprints among many other problems), ones that were extremely greedy in how they handled their max rarity cards (WISU and the Dueling Mirrors tins), have terrible pull rates, or were really mistimed like Valiant Smashers. I think it’s not a good idea to have deck build archetypes be unplayable on release as it hurts the value of those products as well as the OTS stores that sell them. Legendary Duelist sets have a similar problem exacerbated by terrible pull rates, which Konami should really stop doing. Phantom Nightmare and Age of Overlord do lose points from me though since they still have some pack filler and did not have cohesive TCG exclusive archetypes. Wave 2 of Tistina was awful…

We're complaining about something that's been happening since 2004. It's a hobby, some hobbies are more expensive then others. Sure the price sucks but everyone talks about boycotting the company but clearly nobody is actually doing thay
I wouldn't exactly call it a boycott, but my locals keeps getting smaller and smaller. And I can just see it on people's faces that they aren't having fun. And yeah sure enough people are gonna keep buying and keep this clown circus alive a little bit longer, but people run out of money eventually.
Some changes that would turn things around. -OCG rarity spread for the TCG (This could be the only thing changed & sooo many people would be happy/return) -More alt arts in sets / border break arts -Give out giant cards for main event tournament winners (they have left overs from the side events so this can be done) or offer a few boxes/case of the newest set. -Make the prize card a unique rarity -Make better quality products (mats/deck boxes/field centers etc) There are A LOT of 3rd party makers they could commision for such things. Idk.. I could go on but a lot of these changes seem easy to do without dumping a lot of money. They'd also make a lot of money with these changes too, tho. Konami just seems lazy & without a clear direction of how to innovate/progress the game.
I came back to Yugioh after 12 years due to my friends goading me around the time Rarity Collection 1 came out and was massively hyped up. Now I'm thinking about quitting again for another decade. the TCG is constantly getting mistreated and it's straight up criminal. The TCG consumers are largely to blame too cause despite all this, people are still buying and konami sees nothing but profits from the TCG, concerns and complaints from the fans are ignored. I find it funny that Rarity Collection 1 is what temporarily brought me back, as that set was basically the OCG rarity collection product minus Maxx C, getting a small taste of OCG's superiority was great, then TCG shat all over that good will with Rarity Collection 2, and probably Quarter Century Bonanza too will be dog water.
Im an old school player and when I saw crush card was a tournament exclusive card i realized that it's fine having powerful cards at a high rarity, I fully believe Konami started scamming the players when they reprinted crush card to a rare rarity and then banned it around the time hidden arsenal 1 came out.
I'm just gonna stay budget for life. If it costs too much, i'm not wasting money. Konami already knows the solutions. If they aren't implementing them, then they don't really deserve my cash.
I just got back into yugioh after over half a decade. I was never playing competitively but it has been peaking my interest lately. Just feels like barrier to entry is so high rn. I’m alr having a hard time affording must have cards but another must have hand trap being this hard to get is unfortunate. Like I know I’m not gunna get a “new ash” for a while, let alone 3 copies anytime soon.
I made a Dino deck for fun a couple of years ago and I’ve never had the desire to make another. A couple of those cards are of course banned now and Dino isn’t relatively playable, but when I see the price of new cards every 3 months, I do not care about doing it more than master duel.
Watching another yugioh video today and it was brought to my attention that we have not received any structure decks this year. It’s while that Konami has taken this approach when it comes to there products. Would not surprise me if they chop up the new blue eyes Structure and put it into a side set lol.
My experience with Branded post ban list is having Branded Fusion banished hurts but not enough to kick it out of the tier 1 slot because Light and Darkness Dragon Lord is still a heck of a card when it isn't hit by cards like Dark Ruler and Pot of Prosperity limited your chances are low if 3 copies of Dark Ruler is all you've got. I've had plenty of games where I've watched my opponents lose 3 cards because of it and then because I had more interruptions after that they couldn't play. Needless to say having the omni-version of Apallousa as a fusion in a deck that meets the requirements easily is one heck of a game winner. Also Branded has never really lost consistency because we have replacements for the replacements especially if your careful not to lock yourself with Nadir to early and heck Cartesia is a busted 1.5 card combo if I've ever seen one and when you get that Eclessia off of Titaniklad you be ballin'. If you can't every consistency increasing card Branded can use with the consideration that the majority of them can be ran at 3 copies they have almost 30 cards that can be put in the main deck even after Branded Fusion got limited and you can't forget about Shaddoll Fusions' going 2nd applications because you can get access to Aluber by sending Tragedy from deck to grave. Apart from Branded Fusion Branded much like a lot of decks never really had an identity and Branded was simply just the best fusion pile deck in the game that was capable of using almost any set of fusion monsters and archetypal cards.
I didagree with your take on the two sets. Both of them were pretty good imo, as they made good cards easily accessible. We can always upgrade lower rarities later. Making good cards low rarity means players can build decks that they would have otherwise been priced out of, and can even build multiple iterations to playtest if they want. The real issue with the sets is that konami still isnt following the tcg example and making cards in multiple rarities so that players on all budgets can be reasonably satisfied. Not to mention how unsatisfying the higher rarities are (imo) compared to older sets. Look at ultimate rares from past sets (sadly they now only come from ots packs) and tell me secrets in modern sets hold a candle to them. Or tell me ghost rares wouldn't be amazing returns compared to quarter century or 25th anni rares
I honestly feel insulted. The expensive staples are getting more frequent and even more expensive. Not to mention the archetypes themselves. Even if you don't want to play high tier meta you still need the staples. I decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a playset of Ultimate Rare thrusts after noticing that even after multiple reprints (as secrets..) the secrets are still 30€ while ultis are 50€. Might as well. Once they print it truly cheaply the Ultis at least hold some value and won't make me feel that bad. Now we got 120€ mini-maxxCs. The other one just released were still 50€ each or something purulia or whatever. By the time they reprint them to be more "affordable" they will print brand new broken staples you will NEED to keep up. I'm genuinely considering dropping the paper play even though going to locals kept me going so far. Numbers are already dwindling, stores are closing idk where I'm going with this. I'm sad because even if you look back on notoriously expensive formats like teleDAD and whatnot, for the time they didn't feel this bad and this intentional.
That's because people ignore the resellers abusing the game for profit. It's more obvious in games like mtg because of how they treated the reserved list and how they started treating the game like an investment. Yugioh is facing the same problem. People are trying to make yugioh an investment but because they can't prevent reprints like they could with mtg they abuse new card releases for profit. One of the reasons tcg doesn't do low rarity reprints like ocg is because game stores basically told Konami they won't hold their products if they do as it wouldn't be profitable
that's what kinda pisses me off in the TCG, i'd like to build a White Forest Runick Deck with already owning the whole Runick lineup. White Forest would be so easy and cheap to add, but there is that 1 Card (Elzette) that has to cost about 60-70€ for the whole Playset. disgusting :D

Proxies are illegal in YuGiOh. So you should deffo ask your local store first before using them in a tournament. Official Konami events will definetely not allow them.

I currently have baskets across two stores containing: 3 secret rare alt art drolls 3 secret rare imperm 3 secret rare ash blossoms 3 secret rare nibiru 3 secret rare effect veiler All 15 totaled around $100. That is almost half of a single fuwaross. Stop. Buying it. Vendors wont charge it if it doesnt sell.
Yeah the new Fuwaros card demands a boycott from the players NOW. It’s genuinely gotten to a point where not only is it insulting it’s fucking disrespectful and disgusting business practice. Without its players Yugioh is nothing, Konami NEEDS to understand this Unfortunately things aren’t going to change because I don’t see any people with real importance talking about real solutions. Even ultra rare magia is $5, theres not much different from secret rare to ultra, both still glossy piece of cardboard. Even the secret rare just $8-9.
I recently came back to the TCG, around two months ago, and the amount of hyper competitive, meta decks, and the amount of people just jumpgin from one meta deck to the next is so exhausting. Which is sad, because I like the game, it is a fun game, but playing it at locals with 11 other people having meta or Tier 1 decks is just... I don't think I'll ever stop liking YGO, but playing the TCG goes way over budget for me. I hoped Speed Duel were an accessible way to play the game, but nah, it's dead already, and I don't think they release Rush in the West. Gotta say, it is kinda hard to keep yourself invested in a game that goes way over to push around its players if you don't spend a ton of cash.
Frankly, I moved to TCG format on Omega from Master Duel because of two things: full power Tear Ishizu, and Maxx "C" I thought it was an anti roach format, so im not particularly enthused to play against Mulcharmy especially as a rogue player.
Went to my first tournament yesterday with Fire King. The deck was a very basic x3 structure deck build, which is probably the best deck i have at the moment. Anyway, first two people i played were smug, full of themselves. First player played Labyrinth and was trying to pull of his combos. He had lethal on board while i had nothing...just end the game. But the third guy i played, was much more on my level, personality. He was playing Dark Magician and we were actually going back and forth with games won. My underdog deck was actually putting up a fight. Overall, I'm pretty sure i was dead last. But this was easily my best night for YuGiOh. Even though the first player was telling everyone that was there that he won against me, he had the nerve to look through my deck and showed me some practice hands. If it wasn't for him however, i probably wouldnt have lasted that long against Dark Magician.
can't speak for your experience but I like to help younger / newer players at locals post-match with their deck. Obv ask first, but showing a new player "how I would play out this hand" with their deck is very helpful to show them interactions they might have missed or not known about.
@@frig7014 I mean, I'm always down for help. But it was the way he went about telling everyone that he beat me before he came back to show me practice hands. It was helpful, got some wins after he showed me stuff. But it was scummy the way he bragged to everyone. Good job guy, you just beat the new guy. Pretty much had a warm up/bye for the next round
YGO community is just wave riding for content at this point. I couldn't imagine the social anxiety and exhaustion of ship jumping every week. Scam this, buy now. Doom this, good now. I actually APS channels on block. Had me feeling like Nino Brown "cutting off" Gee Money.
Currently ive picked up a pokemon deck, commander deck, one peice deck , wiess deck, altered deck , and a digimon deck....all for a fraction of what it cost to be meta in yugioh and these decks perform decently enoughto where i enjoy winning one game then losing the other and not sitting there waiting half a hour to lose and lose 5 matches in a row....

Just had a Big set… making new cards secret rare is good for people to get the last set in trade for the secrets rare in the new set… I’m not sold on the jelly fish hand traps… they seem kinda situational. I can’t run them in my deck… I’m not changing decks just to play the hype cards… just play shared ride and watch them Cope!
Hot take: A few days ago, many people were angry in MTG that their cards devalued because of the rules committee, but I think that was still an okay situation. Now I look at this scenario in Yugioh and it feels more sad because Konami has their players by the sack, and these cards are only used in their ONLY recognized format....
While it doesn't surprise me at all that Konami has done their usual tactics for the rarities of Rage Of The Abyss, I am glad that all the Metalmorph cards that I'm after for this set will be Utra Rare and lower 🙂
I'm not buying any more product after tins. And when I saw the content of the tins I pre-ordered Charizard ex Battle Deck that's coming out in November. for the price of 3 YGO SDs you have a complete deck that's actually competitive and requires very little investment to be even more competitive
Yeah I’m sticking to almost exclusively masterduel now. I get to collect almost any card virtually for free and play how I want to play in casual. Sometimes I just wanna play a janky light and darkness dragon and spam negates and stuff
This pay to win was annoying. When they banned all the generic cheaper extra deck monsters so us rogue players can't even hope to compete unless we splash out? That was the line. I've not been to locals since the banlist with Borreload's ban, and with that trend continuing I don't intend to come back.

Nope. We arent usually mad when the cards are cool but dont equate the value of a box. Sure, Crimson Dragon at release of Mirrors was almost the cost of the box (has gone down since), that card alone made me fine with the pulls for that box.
I got into Link/TOSS format watching alot of your deck profiles and played at regularly only to dropped the game because the banlist kept hitting my decks. Players have 3 options right now: go bankrupt, play stun or, like me, play casual with friends. I like yugioh, but i still need to pay for food to be able to play the game.

I like how simple this view is. Most people will sell their prize card, their mats, their spare mats that they receive from attending and sometimes, the very deck they used. If it wasnt rented. Then you also have to factor in, you never see a guy out there, alone. He was with a sponsored team. So promotion money. That Nintendo Switch even sealed isn't worth the $200 once it leaves the store. You have to think about where all the other monies are coming from. If you're only thinking of 1 avenue of making money. You're broke. Fix yourself.
Also. That $600 for 3 cards is what you are paying your vendors. Not Konami... Vendors set those single sale prices. Then tell you everything is short print. "The rare commons are super short printed this set". "Rare commons...?". Which is thing, supposedly, thats totally not a thing. But look it up.
Konami and game stores across the West all universally agreed that Rarity Collection was one of the largest successes in years and the main reason for that was just that it was way easier for people to buy into sealed product when they could feel secure in their chances of getting something good out of it. And KoA just forgot about that and I guess the lesson they took was only "people like shiny cards" or something.
They basically see it as a way to quickly increase profits in a single month. They're soooo short sighted and not looking at the big picture. It's why we're getting this Bananza set rather than anything actually good.

Also people complain about how expensive the game is but that is only true if you keep building decks at high rates. Also within a year you will have most things reprinted.
Also usually the new stuff isnt the only thing you can play. Good players pick random decks and win locals consitently.

As of today my locals have scrapped Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments and turnout is at an all-time low. We had no more than four or five players for months. Is there any wonder how and why when Konami run the game like they do?

@@JionZzI’m there with you. I’m a student so I wanted to play powerful but cheap decks. I borrowed a friends lab deck and won a Goblin Biker promo from a locals. I was so ecstatic that I built the deck. The new set is really cheap for them, but the best way to play them is with the Fiendsmith engine. My other deck was Chimera Fusion. The best way to play it is with the Fiendsmith Engine. I’m just tired.
I will contest against this... my local club has 13-16 regulars during the school year in a dinky town of 12k people. we have 1 hyper competitive player who goes to the regionals and whatnot but the rest of us are just chilling. I know everyone doomposting here but sometimes we just can't control our situation, and that sucks
'cause people keep buying their products. The day the yugioh community stops being mindless consumers, the whales stop buying singles for more than $100, and sold out yugitubers with no integrity stop hyping garbage products, Konami will be forced to fix stuff.

Yugiohs a great game but it’s run worse than any other tcg right now. I only play Lorcana now I made 3 out of the 4 meta decks for less than a tier one yugioh deck. Konami doesn’t care about their players it shows constantly.

They were/are originally banned because of release windows and because the cardstock used in the ocg is noticeably thicker (better). You can tell the difference through sleeves so it was also to prevent you from being able to tell what card was what. It's why Asian English cards aren't allowed either.
@@sovietmudkip1 Except they could have implemented a rule that if you want to use OCG cards, your entire Main Deck needs to be comprised of them. There's an easy solution to the problem. The real reason they don't allow them is that Konami wants to sell product.

In my area we have slowly moved away from physical Yu-Gi-Oh and have started having master duel tournaments. What used to be a 7-10 tournaments has jumped to 15+ in the newer format we have with Master Duel. Even the kids in our area now come and play in these tournaments and honestly it’s the closest to old Yu-Gi-Oh feeling as it gets. Winners are given a choice of gift cards for their accounts, packs/tins, or even a cash prize depending on the tournaments. We even had a pro game controller as a prize and in a retro theme duel cup. I think other areas will learn and follow the wave if they haven’t already done so.
thats pretty cool! was thinking about something similar with setting up DB tournaments for in-person-locals (just bring your laptop), might be kinda cumbersome but honestly I think if people gave it a try they would love it.

Its definitely the whales keeping this game from being accessible for everyone. They would of also bought out the new azamina cards. Before that, fiendsmith. It's a trickle effect that will take a while. If the players stop buying product then the distro will be putting in smaller orders or stop buying product. Only then will Konami make a change.
The issue is we all need to be on the same page. People get FOMO if they don't get the new, good cards but don't realize the profit isn't there until after the fact.
Staples should be common, archtype boss monsters should be secret rare.

I just recently came back to the game after MANY years and I've been playing with friends some old and cheap archetypes, been trying to buy some staples to build a deck that I can at least go to locals with but man, some prices are ridiculous

I finally made the switch to Pokémon, after playing Yugioh since Metal Raiders.
It was the best decision I’ve made in regards to card games in a long time.

The whole "You can have fun with rogue tier 5 decks" is so absolutely painful true. I feel everything you said. Each time someone tells me "You don't need the best deck to have fun" (even better with the addition "Winning is not everything"), I'm just like tf what mate? Because wasting half a day, 6 hours at a tournament where I spend 80% time waiting for the next round, 15% of the time watching my opponent play solitair and 5% time attempting to do anything is so fun right.

I feel like the comparison to duelist nexus and legacy of destruction isn't really fair given that in both cases the number of cards that actually mattered were limited, and archetype specific. If they had made mulcharmy and dominus super rares instead, it would have been more like darkwing blast and the bystials, and that set was very good. Phantom nightmare also does really well despite Promethean and poplar being ultra.

Yeah, this new format ain’t it. I’m just sticking to MD, maybe playing at locals with Runick Spright, and playing Commander in MTG. This is just insanely expensive.

My locals have been 25-40 ppl for the last half a year until last month. Now this past Sunday, we've only had 15 people. More people are going through bulk boxes for Pokemon cards before the tournament than YGO players, and the Disney Lorcana game is close to reaching our numbers. Their prize support is MASSIVE compared to our own in some aspects, such as once a month the person with the most points gets a playmat and 10 packs, but for YGO we only get store credit- we're lucky to have a case tournament once or twice a year because prize support is so poor. I even folded last week to buy S:P for $60. Pray that Konami doesn't give it the banlist treatment later on

I heard that Kozmo Dark Destroyer was a $200 preorder card. Makes me worried Fuwaros will go up to $250 since it’s a 3-of that’s rated e for every deck.
Edit: I don’t consider Phantom Nightmare to be a terrible set. The only sets I consider to be terrible are ones that are filled with bad cards like the Dueling Mirrors tins (wtf were those common reprints among many other problems), ones that were extremely greedy in how they handled their max rarity cards (WISU and the Dueling Mirrors tins), have terrible pull rates, or were really mistimed like Valiant Smashers. I think it’s not a good idea to have deck build archetypes be unplayable on release as it hurts the value of those products as well as the OTS stores that sell them. Legendary Duelist sets have a similar problem exacerbated by terrible pull rates, which Konami should really stop doing.
Phantom Nightmare and Age of Overlord do lose points from me though since they still have some pack filler and did not have cohesive TCG exclusive archetypes. Wave 2 of Tistina was awful…
Tistina felt like whoever designed it lost the plot. Still love the deck though.

We're complaining about something that's been happening since 2004. It's a hobby, some hobbies are more expensive then others. Sure the price sucks but everyone talks about boycotting the company but clearly nobody is actually doing thay
I wouldn't exactly call it a boycott, but my locals keeps getting smaller and smaller. And I can just see it on people's faces that they aren't having fun. And yeah sure enough people are gonna keep buying and keep this clown circus alive a little bit longer, but people run out of money eventually.
Some changes that would turn things around.
-OCG rarity spread for the TCG (This could be the only thing changed & sooo many people would be happy/return)
-More alt arts in sets / border break arts
-Give out giant cards for main event tournament winners (they have left overs from the side events so this can be done) or offer a few boxes/case of the newest set.
-Make the prize card a unique rarity
-Make better quality products (mats/deck boxes/field centers etc) There are A LOT of 3rd party makers they could commision for such things.
Idk.. I could go on but a lot of these changes seem easy to do without dumping a lot of money. They'd also make a lot of money with these changes too, tho.
Konami just seems lazy & without a clear direction of how to innovate/progress the game.

I came back to Yugioh after 12 years due to my friends goading me around the time Rarity Collection 1 came out and was massively hyped up. Now I'm thinking about quitting again for another decade. the TCG is constantly getting mistreated and it's straight up criminal. The TCG consumers are largely to blame too cause despite all this, people are still buying and konami sees nothing but profits from the TCG, concerns and complaints from the fans are ignored. I find it funny that Rarity Collection 1 is what temporarily brought me back, as that set was basically the OCG rarity collection product minus Maxx C, getting a small taste of OCG's superiority was great, then TCG shat all over that good will with Rarity Collection 2, and probably Quarter Century Bonanza too will be dog water.

Im an old school player and when I saw crush card was a tournament exclusive card i realized that it's fine having powerful cards at a high rarity, I fully believe Konami started scamming the players when they reprinted crush card to a rare rarity and then banned it around the time hidden arsenal 1 came out.
I'm just gonna stay budget for life. If it costs too much, i'm not wasting money. Konami already knows the solutions. If they aren't implementing them, then they don't really deserve my cash.

I just got back into yugioh after over half a decade. I was never playing competitively but it has been peaking my interest lately. Just feels like barrier to entry is so high rn. I’m alr having a hard time affording must have cards but another must have hand trap being this hard to get is unfortunate. Like I know I’m not gunna get a “new ash” for a while, let alone 3 copies anytime soon.

I made a Dino deck for fun a couple of years ago and I’ve never had the desire to make another. A couple of those cards are of course banned now and Dino isn’t relatively playable, but when I see the price of new cards every 3 months, I do not care about doing it more than master duel.

I'm a MTG player, and I actually just started getting into Yugioh.
So its not all bad... theres still a few new players out there 😊
My experience with Branded post ban list is having Branded Fusion banished hurts but not enough to kick it out of the tier 1 slot because Light and Darkness Dragon Lord is still a heck of a card when it isn't hit by cards like Dark Ruler and Pot of Prosperity limited your chances are low if 3 copies of Dark Ruler is all you've got. I've had plenty of games where I've watched my opponents lose 3 cards because of it and then because I had more interruptions after that they couldn't play. Needless to say having the omni-version of Apallousa as a fusion in a deck that meets the requirements easily is one heck of a game winner.
Also Branded has never really lost consistency because we have replacements for the replacements especially if your careful not to lock yourself with Nadir to early and heck Cartesia is a busted 1.5 card combo if I've ever seen one and when you get that Eclessia off of Titaniklad you be ballin'. If you can't every consistency increasing card Branded can use with the consideration that the majority of them can be ran at 3 copies they have almost 30 cards that can be put in the main deck even after Branded Fusion got limited and you can't forget about Shaddoll Fusions' going 2nd applications because you can get access to Aluber by sending Tragedy from deck to grave. Apart from Branded Fusion Branded much like a lot of decks never really had an identity and Branded was simply just the best fusion pile deck in the game that was capable of using almost any set of fusion monsters and archetypal cards.
I didagree with your take on the two sets. Both of them were pretty good imo, as they made good cards easily accessible. We can always upgrade lower rarities later. Making good cards low rarity means players can build decks that they would have otherwise been priced out of, and can even build multiple iterations to playtest if they want.
The real issue with the sets is that konami still isnt following the tcg example and making cards in multiple rarities so that players on all budgets can be reasonably satisfied.
Not to mention how unsatisfying the higher rarities are (imo) compared to older sets. Look at ultimate rares from past sets (sadly they now only come from ots packs) and tell me secrets in modern sets hold a candle to them. Or tell me ghost rares wouldn't be amazing returns compared to quarter century or 25th anni rares

I honestly feel insulted. The expensive staples are getting more frequent and even more expensive. Not to mention the archetypes themselves. Even if you don't want to play high tier meta you still need the staples.
I decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a playset of Ultimate Rare thrusts after noticing that even after multiple reprints (as secrets..) the secrets are still 30€ while ultis are 50€. Might as well.
Once they print it truly cheaply the Ultis at least hold some value and won't make me feel that bad.
Now we got 120€ mini-maxxCs. The other one just released were still 50€ each or something purulia or whatever.
By the time they reprint them to be more "affordable" they will print brand new broken staples you will NEED to keep up.
I'm genuinely considering dropping the paper play even though going to locals kept me going so far. Numbers are already dwindling, stores are closing idk where I'm going with this.
I'm sad because even if you look back on notoriously expensive formats like teleDAD and whatnot, for the time they didn't feel this bad and this intentional.
That's because people ignore the resellers abusing the game for profit. It's more obvious in games like mtg because of how they treated the reserved list and how they started treating the game like an investment. Yugioh is facing the same problem. People are trying to make yugioh an investment but because they can't prevent reprints like they could with mtg they abuse new card releases for profit. One of the reasons tcg doesn't do low rarity reprints like ocg is because game stores basically told Konami they won't hold their products if they do as it wouldn't be profitable

Proxies are illegal in YuGiOh. So you should deffo ask your local store first before using them in a tournament. Official Konami events will definetely not allow them.

I recently came back to the TCG, around two months ago, and the amount of hyper competitive, meta decks, and the amount of people just jumpgin from one meta deck to the next is so exhausting. Which is sad, because I like the game, it is a fun game, but playing it at locals with 11 other people having meta or Tier 1 decks is just...
I don't think I'll ever stop liking YGO, but playing the TCG goes way over budget for me. I hoped Speed Duel were an accessible way to play the game, but nah, it's dead already, and I don't think they release Rush in the West. Gotta say, it is kinda hard to keep yourself invested in a game that goes way over to push around its players if you don't spend a ton of cash.
Everything should be accessible. It's how the OCG runs things.

Frankly, I moved to TCG format on Omega from Master Duel because of two things: full power Tear Ishizu, and Maxx "C"
I thought it was an anti roach format, so im not particularly enthused to play against Mulcharmy especially as a rogue player.
Went to my first tournament yesterday with Fire King. The deck was a very basic x3 structure deck build, which is probably the best deck i have at the moment.
Anyway, first two people i played were smug, full of themselves. First player played Labyrinth and was trying to pull of his combos. He had lethal on board while i had nothing...just end the game.
But the third guy i played, was much more on my level, personality. He was playing Dark Magician and we were actually going back and forth with games won. My underdog deck was actually putting up a fight.
Overall, I'm pretty sure i was dead last. But this was easily my best night for YuGiOh. Even though the first player was telling everyone that was there that he won against me, he had the nerve to look through my deck and showed me some practice hands. If it wasn't for him however, i probably wouldnt have lasted that long against Dark Magician.
can't speak for your experience but I like to help younger / newer players at locals post-match with their deck. Obv ask first, but showing a new player "how I would play out this hand" with their deck is very helpful to show them interactions they might have missed or not known about.
@@frig7014 I mean, I'm always down for help. But it was the way he went about telling everyone that he beat me before he came back to show me practice hands. It was helpful, got some wins after he showed me stuff. But it was scummy the way he bragged to everyone. Good job guy, you just beat the new guy. Pretty much had a warm up/bye for the next round

YGO community is just wave riding for content at this point. I couldn't imagine the social anxiety and exhaustion of ship jumping every week. Scam this, buy now. Doom this, good now. I actually APS channels on block. Had me feeling like Nino Brown "cutting off" Gee Money.

Currently ive picked up a pokemon deck, commander deck, one peice deck , wiess deck, altered deck , and a digimon deck....all for a fraction of what it cost to be meta in yugioh and these decks perform decently enoughto where i enjoy winning one game then losing the other and not sitting there waiting half a hour to lose and lose 5 matches in a row....

This is why I am sticking to MD. For 1K in MD I can make every meta deck even some fun rogues. TCG 1K barely gets me enough to Top 16.
The worst part of all of this is no other TCG appeals to me at all. I'm too ride or die in yu-gi-oh and I just feel miserable for it
Yea I’m taking a very large break from yugioh. I’ll be putting my stuff in a storage locker or something for a while, the game is just too expensive and I just can’t keep shelling out 100’s of dollars every set to get a few cards. Financially it just doesn’t make sense. I’m moving into Union arena and having a lot of fun with just 2 structure decks!
We. Just had a Big set… making new cards secret rare is good for people to get the last set in trade for the secrets rare in the new set… I’m not sold on the jelly fish hand traps… they seem kinda situational. I can’t run them in my deck… I’m not changing decks just to play the hype cards… just play shared ride and watch them Cope!

A few days ago, many people were angry in MTG that their cards devalued because of the rules committee, but I think that was still an okay situation.
Now I look at this scenario in Yugioh and it feels more sad because Konami has their players by the sack, and these cards are only used in their ONLY recognized format....
I don't wanna pay $7 for a basic rare Red Eyes Insight...
While it doesn't surprise me at all that Konami has done their usual tactics for the rarities of Rage Of The Abyss, I am glad that all the Metalmorph cards that I'm after for this set will be Utra Rare and lower 🙂

I'm not buying any more product after tins. And when I saw the content of the tins I pre-ordered Charizard ex Battle Deck that's coming out in November. for the price of 3 YGO SDs you have a complete deck that's actually competitive and requires very little investment to be even more competitive
Yeah I’m sticking to almost exclusively masterduel now. I get to collect almost any card virtually for free and play how I want to play in casual.

This pay to win was annoying. When they banned all the generic cheaper extra deck monsters so us rogue players can't even hope to compete unless we splash out? That was the line. I've not been to locals since the banlist with Borreload's ban, and with that trend continuing I don't intend to come back.

It is honestly up to yugitubers like your self to band together and say hey guys let’s try and make a change, let’s stop buying products like. And after seeing these tins it should be easy.

Nope. We arent usually mad when the cards are cool but dont equate the value of a box. Sure, Crimson Dragon at release of Mirrors was almost the cost of the box (has gone down since), that card alone made me fine with the pulls for that box.

I got into Link/TOSS format watching alot of your deck profiles and played at regularly only to dropped the game because the banlist kept hitting my decks. RIP Halq and pepega dragon for punk zombies. I moved onto pokemon and now to one piece and both games have been feeling great to play and rewarding to compete in.
