  • Award-winning food and travel writer Lavinia Spalding encourages listeners to become travel writers, and speaks about how sharing travel stories can contribute to global understanding and change.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Reminds me of what my Mother once said to me when we were stopped on a highway in Holiday traffic... I was 7years old and very annoyed at all of the people causing this traffic to be at a stand still... My Mother turned to me & said, yes but all of these people have a unique story... It was from that moment on I realized my Mother loved people... When I became a portrait photographer I would always remember what my Mother said " Everyone has a story" when I would interview them prior to a photo session.... Thank you for reminding me to care.

We were traveling in Malta a few years ago. We met an amazing couple from Italy, the chaps name was also John, he was also a chef and looked very similar to me with his chubby exterior and olive skin. I wish I had watched this video before that trip as I would have written about our meeting. I loved every second of this video and it has motivated me to start writing about my own travels. Thank you very much

John's Kitchen It’s a travel story, not news; so it can still be fresh when it’s old. Write about him now.

Oh my! I'm so happy to see a person who understands the impact of travel writing in a similar way as me. I think such stories help people from different corners of the world to understand each other better, their culture, mindset, lifestyle, etc. To understand and respect. And therefore, be kinder to each other, however hackneyed it may sound. The same refers to some ecological issues, I believe. Travel stories may help us understand our impact on nature, on planet, our common home, and become more conscious.
Thank you for this inspiring video.

You deeply hit my heart. I never had a thought about it. Even if we are miles apart, I got connected with you through your words. By my virtual travels, I have met some random faces from Yemen, Kurdish , Nigeria and so on... Those faces that still haunts me. I am not much able to travel, but I will try to care those people around me.
    Lots of love,
    From India 🇮🇳

Amazingly, you reached into my heart and gave voice to a vision that I'm so desperatly trying to find and share. To stop the world in a single moment of silence, closing our eyes and stepping away from the disciplined programming. Simply absorbing the peace in knowing we are one. Keep up the great work!

It's good to have a better budget than 5 bucks in your bank account to afford maids in a hotel to wipe a forehead. Obviously, many of us are not so entitled to get this treatment, yet most countries take care of their sick either way.
You might just wind up on a matt of a floor and some towel for a pillow.
    I wish I got a TED talk.

I hate smacking noises with public speakers! Every sentence starts with the unnecessary sound and it makes me want to turn her off even though she's saying something important.

UKBamagurl if you're bothered by such small things in life I wouldn't be surprised if you're having a lot of trouble getting things done.
