  • Over half of Americans don't use their vacation days. Many of us are missing out on the experiences, memories, and moments that define us. This talk provides practical travel tips and makes the case that there should be no such thing as a once in a lifetime trip. Jared Kamrowski is the founder of Thrifty Traveler, the leading source for flight deals, cheap travel tips, and maximizing travel rewards.
Jared honed his travel skills by traveling over 100 nights a year while working as a Federal bank examiner. He left his job in 2017 and now runs Thrifty Traveler full time flying over 100,000 miles per year. You can catch him flying the fanciest first class cabins as well as budget airlines, paying only pennies on the dollar.
Jared believes there is no such thing as a "once in a lifetime trip". He’s a firm believer that travel should be cheap and accessible for all. Jared is a Fargo native, attended the University of North Dakota, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He currently resides with his wife Erica in Minneapolis, MN. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Throughout my 20s I didn't get to travel as much as I wanted due to work and school taking up my time and finances, I didn't even hop on a plane anywhere for 11 years, now in my 30s and beyond I'm gonna make sure I travel more as often as I can before I get old, it's like therapy for me, life ain't all about money, we should all travel because because money returns, time doesn't

Unfortunately he didn't really make an argument for why traveling is important. He made a point that we should travel more. He's trying to encourage people to travel, but as one of these Americans who don't travel and thinks that it's wasteful, I don't feel convinced. At 30, I'm working a full time job, I'm trying to buy a house, and save for the future. As a single man, I don't have anyone to travel with and it seems like wasteful consimerism. I'm sure the mountain tops are breath taking, but what value does me experiencing the mountain tops produce that justifies the cost of time and energy compared to spending my time and energy on something that I can spend progressing my goals?

This pandemic sucks. I started to earn in 2020 and this pandemic hit in 2020. Life sucks so much that I daily hear suicide prevention Ted talks to keep me sane, I don't know what even to do.

Actually there is something wrong to being a homebody. I wish we could start addressing this instead of treating it like the body acceptance movement. Being home all the time isn't healthy at all. It makes you fragile, cowardly, fearful, out-of-touch with the world, crushes your social skills, and augments pre-existing mental illnesses. When's the last time you saw a recluse who didn't have serious issues?
