  • Two-week old Barn Swallow chicks develop feathers, stretch their wings, and get ready to leave the nest. Subscribe for more nature and wildlife videos: bit.ly/SHFHvideo . Click the bell for notifications and follow along as these chicks fledge.
In early June a pair of Barn Swallows built a nest over the course of a week and laid and incubated 4 eggs. On July 1st, the eggs began to hatch, and over the next week the chicks were tended to by the pair and fed insects. During their second week, watch as the chicks are fed, develop feathers, stretch their wings, and test out balancing on the edge of the nest.
You will also observe a large number of (what appear to be) mites and ants on the nest. Their presence doesn’t seem to be visibly affecting the development of the chicks, but if there are too many the pair may not continue to use the nest. Learn about mites from NestWatch: nestwatch.org/...

Wow... Not only is that nest right next to a spider web, but all of the spider's food are avoiding the web and instead crawling all over this nest.

We thought they might be mites, but they didn’t seem to impact the health of the chicks. A pair of house finches have taken up residence in the nest this year-working on their second brood.
