You were traveling through Native American hunting , fishing and agriculture lands that are 1000's of years old on your voyage down the Illinois... many burial mounds and camp sites all along the way
That sunset drone shot was 🔥! Also, I have dreamt of your butternut squash risotto ever since the Keys and have wanted to make it. Taking this as a sign to make it happen!
My brother Steve's ashes are of the peoria pier. He bought a boat in Chesapeake bay did the upper loop back here too Peoria. They called him Captain Steve !
Nice video you 3 ..... I am from Chillicothe originally but have lived in Peoria Heights for the last 33 years ..... I see you are smart to have a motor boat instead of a money pit sailboat ..... Enjoy your boating on your way down the big muddy to the gulf.
I think I saw you guys going by lacon il , I was fishing on the river behind my house, river front market is awesome, and I want squash in the instant pot, we've had one for a while we got as a gift, loving it. Love your vids
I love the way ya'all do your videos and I really love that you show so many scenes of things you pass on the river like the many fleeting operations there are on the Illinois. It makes me miss boating the rivers. I consider myself to be a "River Rat" and as Captain Bernstein, owner and operator of BB Riverboats in Cincinnati and the official "Captain of the Port of Cincinnati" likes to say, "Once the river water and mud gets into your veins, you are always part of the river and it's a part of you." I think in a metaphorical way that this is true. As far as I am concerned, you are boating the rivers at the best time of the year, in late season. You can still get a very warm day like this one along with those very cool days when the sea smoke rises in the chill early morning air from the water which is warmer than the air. I have some of the most beautiful photos taken at points on the Ohio on such mornings. Some of the most beautiful of those photos I took at a place called Turtle Creek Marina in Florence, Indiana located just above the Belterra Casino and Markland Lock and Dam, which in turn is roughly the halfway point between Cincinnati and Louisville. It's a rather remote part of the river. The L&D are officially located at Vevay, Indiana (prononced Vee-vee) As always, I wait with anticipation for your next video of running this river.
Just remember that when you are on those big rivers, you are in those barges workspaces. They are there doing an important job. Give them some space and some tolerance. Same with big trucks on the highway. Thats their workspace to do the important job they are doing. It doesnt give them more rights than you. But some understanding and tolerance for them and what they are there for is a good thing.
Now to get used to the Mighty Miss. River has its own rules and snags, sand and commercial traffic will govern this trip. At least the water is flowing the right way.
Really enjoying ya our looping adventures but already impatient fir your next . Since the videos are a year behind , it would be a great idea to do a “real time “ video just once. Curious if you are traveling or settled down since selling the boat.
After we post our last Loop video, we will be much more current, as right now we aren't doing much just editing, editing, and editing! The next big adventure will kick off in '24. If you're not already subscribed, our Sunday Summary will keep you updated in real time (schoandjo.com/sunday-summary) however it typically won't be a video. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Thanks! We probably average laundry every 2 weeks, possibly every week. It honestly depends on how many marinas we visit, which we don't visit that many. This may be a TMI but we honestly just purchased more undergarments and rotated those. The rest of our clothing lasted multiple wears!
Free for a short stay! There were a couple boats on the bigger slips, they had 2 for large vessels (40 - 50 feet), but the majority was empty! The rest of the slips were probably just too tight for most people!
Oh we meant the actual barges hitting buoys, not wakes. The barges breaking them and pushing them along the river, and then eventually they get pushed onto shore from wind or flooding. I could see flooding being another cause though, that makes sense!
Nicely done. Enjoying your view of this epic journey. Q - Do you see many sailboats on the loop? Considering going on mine next year which is what drew me to your channel.
With the mast down, a sailboat becomes a motor boat, only needing more fuel stops. I went from Lockport to Lauderdale one autumn, We stepped the mast at Mobile and sailed direct to Key West. We were 6 and moved 24/7 We ran aground once near Starved Rock because the shipmate on watch was color blind, and we ran aground a few more times on the Black Warrior because aerial photographs were the only charts available. We pillaged and plundered at Peoria, Portage des Sioux MO, Mobile and Key West. From Key West to Lauderdale was just me and the skipper.
Definitely we've seen some sailboats! Most of them though, ensure their mast is under ICW height, which I believe is 62 or under. Typically they ship their mast from Chicago to Mobile, and then it would need to be taken down in the Hudson and perhaps put back on in the Lakes. Some leave their mast off the entire loop, and pick it up when they get back around. Some Cons are that typically sailboats have a higher draft making some parts of the loop challenging, like the Trent Severn where max draft is around 5 but Pros are that Sailboats under power are pretty good on fuel and you already have and know the boat! Good luck!
@@SchoandJo The official loopie FAQ says that between 5 and 6 feet, you must sign a waiver. Ask yourself: "Do you feel lucky . . . P***?" The great lakes are an alternative.
@@SchoandJo No problem! It's kind of tucked away in the old train station about 200' west from the docks. Great food. I honestly think it's the best kept secret in Peoria, yet it's usually packed. I just realized these were recorded almost a year ago. I looked when I saw you both wearing jackets, thought "it's been really warm this last month".
Current? LOL if the wickets are up at Peoria lock theres no real current. Had a job doing research from Peoria pool up to the lake. Below lockport it's real pretty and some times and places do have a good current but not Peoria if the wickets are up. If the water was up you could have skipped the lock because the wickets would be down and you could just cruise over them. The wind on a boat like yours though is no joke.
Hahaha, the "MMMM" counter cracks me up😂😂

Enjoy your videos! Before my dad retired, he worked for the railroad and raised and lowered the train bridge just outside of Peoria on the river
Nice!
You just came across my feed. I live near Peoria. Saw a lot of familiar sites. Going to watch this series.
The dock is free, but you have to bring your own power washer!
haha so true.
Very nice, a great adventure continues. And thank you for presenting Illinois well. 🛥️
My Mom's side is form Illinois so we have to try and represent Illinois well! 😁
Thanks for sharing 👍
The farmers market looked great
Im going to be sad when this series is over. Also, I asked my husband if he would go get us donuts 😊
😆 hope they were delicious!

What a life time journey!... Fun to follow!...

How sweet! Thank you for sharing, Scott 🙏
Beautiful drone shots of the River, farmers market and anchorage. ♥️♥️♥️
❤️
Lovely anchorage.
I am from Havana originally, and now live in California. Hope you were able to go into town, as there are many local sights you would enjoy.

Give me the sail boat for this trek.
You guys are gold.. safe travels🤟
This is really cool! I live about 15 minutes away from Peoria and I live in Peoria county. This is cool seeing this and see you around my area.

Right next to the farmer's market is he Peoria Museum. It is a nice museum with great displays and one of the largest movie screens in the country.
Cool! Thanks for sharing!

I have made the same journey on a sailboat. 27 ft.

We heard the word fiancee, is there more to this story, we'd love to hear it. Keep up the great videos, we love following your journey.
Thanks John! We'll have to share the story one day... we've been engaged for quiet a while but probably don't say Fiance too often!
Best doughnut ever are Stan's Doughnuts in San Jose CA. Unfortunately they are not on the loop.
That'd be a pretty large detour, but might be worth it for world class Doughnuts 😁
WOW..... I'm the first one to comment. Another great segment. ps. nice exit off the dock.
Thanks so much Don!

I can't believe that your boat was the only Looper docked there.😮

Peoria is my last stopping point to date!
The reason the buoys are on the shore is because of River flooding, not barge wakes. Tows make small wakes.

Another wise reason not to cut in front of a towboat: If your engine quits, you'll stop faster than they can!
Absolutely! Better safe than sorry...
Nope, no Blue Duck visit.
