No more marinas for 250 nautical miles (second day on the river)

- Leaving Hoppies Marina in Missouri, we don't have another Marina option until Paducah, Kentucky. This starts the longest stretch on the Loop where you will have to anchor or find free walls to stay, and marks one of the limiting factors for the loop... your boat must be able to go 250 nm in between re-fuels. I don't know what we were expecting for our first FULL day on the Mississippi, but it definitely did not include a Pie-Anatomy lesson... we hope you enjoy!

Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.

Flew out to the west coast on a business trip in 1993 and saw how flooded the Mississippi was. It went on for miles in both directions from its riverbed, it was quite amazing to see.

Right now at Vicksburg the river is at 9.7 ft. Which is down from the usual depth of between 15-25 ft at the center of the channel.
You are at the birthplace of westward exploration. This was fur trappers gathering and trading area. Ste. Genevieve was mother of the west. Enjoy

You guys are the top notch locators of great places to stop……what resources are you using to find all these great places ?? What did you use when you were in the north channel ??
We mostly just search online, Navionics and Google Maps, as well as get recommendations from a lot of people from the area! We typically start with Navionics because if we can't get there by boat, we typically won't be able to go while Looping 😅 Thanks for watching!

I think it’s an old German tradition, my Father and Grandfather both always ate apple pie with cheese. My Grandfather was from Germany and he always said this is just how you eat apple pie. We live just outside of St. Louis, MO.
I had an Aunt that had a saying, "Apple pie without cheese is like a hug without a squeeze".
Hello central Illinois here. I was introduced to cheddar on my apple pie some 25 years ago or so. And it is very good not my fav. Sorry i like vanilla ice cream best. But when unavailable sharp cheddar is next up.

1993 flood was a 500 year event, but 1995 flood was even worse. I-70 Missouri river bridge was sandbagged, river ran from bluff to bluff across the bottoms. Biblical.
What did your trawler cruise at? I'm anticipating cruising at 10-13kts with a 360 mile range in mid May, upstream
Our boat goes 6.5 knots (roughly). The current on the Mississippi when we transited was sometimes 5-6 knots so going upstream would not have been feasible for us unless we wanted to burn a lot of fuel. I think average could have been 2 knots so if you're going to go 13 knots, and you aren't planing then expect to go much slower 😁
