  • Henry Royce passed away in 1933, making the Rolls-Royce Phantom II the last model he ever designed. The Phantom II was introduced in September of 1929 and served as a replacement for the New Phantom, which would later become known as the Phantom I. The Rolls-Royce Phantom II was the third and last of Rolls-Royce's large 6-cylinder prewar models, and the second of generation of the longest running model in automotive history, which is still made today as a Phantom VIII. Just 1,680 Phantom II’s were produced. Only the chassis and mechanical parts were made by Rolls-Royce. The body was made and fitted by a coachbuilder selected by the owner. The Phantom II provided a platform for some of the most beautiful designs of the day, and this long-wheelbase chassis wears stylish coachwork by the London-based firm of Thrupp & Maberly. In 2001, this car received a total body-off restoration including chassis, body, interior and mechanicals, and has a unique feature of a rear compartment trimmed in silk.

    Nothing quite like a Phantom II - the best Rolls-Royce ever built.

    Gorgeous Royce!
    I had a 1936 Sedanca de Ville and a 1937 Phantom III for my wedding cars back in the early '70s.

    Magnificent. Interior , exterior ( maybe under the bonnet) in the future. A true delight. The cantilevered windscreen a memory from my childhood of our 1934 Bentley.

    Love the music. Imagine back in 1933 if you could afford this. My goodness. An utterly superb vehicle and real quality that lasts. A car not just for life but all your descendants!! From a whole of life energy foot print I bet that this has a lot lower whole of life carbon foot print than almost any modern vehicle?

    Mmmm, riding around with you, in this car has been so much fun all day (since breakfast)! Mmmm, with the music and a glass of champagne, it's sheer heaven! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This video (with that long hood & the Spirit of Ecstasy), is just what I've been looking for! James, you're a treasure, a real treasure. ~James 🌠

    The idea of luxury way back then is a bit puzzling. Other than style, even the cheapest modern car can outdo these marvels of engineering.

      I don’t agree. I would rather be in the back of this than anything, even a modern RR

    I'm curious, is that you, James, driving this car?

  •  2 місяці тому

    Well, I guessed it right. This video appears to be indeed, filmed in Texas. I was watching and wondering where we might be. I put two & two together and came up with an educated guess of Texas, I considered the topography of the land, the vegetation and the miserable gray sky. I had thought, that perhaps, it was somewhere around Marin County wine country, in California, but that awful, gray sky told me, it must be one of those miserably, hellish, hot & humid, cloudy, muggy & buggy "Devil red" states, of the south. Sure enough, I discovered that Austin was listed as the location. Isn't that interesting? Sometimes, my insight amazes me.

    Yet another car video that needs to have the sound editor sent out and given something useful to do, like scrubbing garbage pails. Music should NEVER be played at any point the engine is running. Not at the very beginning, not at the 1:40 point, not a tiny underlying layer - *never.* Car lovers tune into these channels for the cars, not music editing. The sound of a classic engine running is the best music, hands down. I really wanted to hear the sound of the idle on the exterior shots at the end.

    • @LWVH81
      @LWVH81  Рік тому +2

      OK. Please check today's post on my Silver Shadow II and I did not put music where the engine is running, following your feedback. I even added an engine idling shot for you. But Rolls-Royces are dead quiet. You'll want to hear the engines when I post of my Ferrari. That's for sure.

      There is no sound system in this car. Car radios were invented in 1930 but weren’t prolific until much later. There was some arguments about them distracting drivers!
