- Demonstrating some basic mistakes that are easy to make and also easy to avoid ... but the game doesn't tell you this stuff.
Yet another masterful video, Arcadelife! I've commented on some of your other videos because I find them to be the best, most comprehensive videos on Grim Dawn. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment (and all the others), always much appreciated 👊🙂
Top job mate I'm having a blast with this build 🤣HA HA HA. Love your vids mate keep up the good content you've helped me along with some of my builds with your vids THANKS 😉
Cheers for the comment, always appreciated 👊🙂
I'm my own worst enemy at times, mainly due to impatience. One of my worst habits is looking at my resistances, seeing they are inadequate and ploughing on regardless with a f' it attitude. (And then promptly having an enemy put me in my place.)
Dumbest thing I've done is level a HC character to 80, decided I was "bored" of the build and then completely respec'd into something I am not geared for. Naturally it was totally scuffed. I didn't even give him the dignity of a warriors death. Simply abandoned and eventually deleted.
So yeah. How to wreck your build: be as impatient as humanly possible.
Step 1 - admit you have a problem 👊😜
Definitely screwed up my first build. Picked anything that looked shiny on demolitionist. I didn't know or care I just wanted to set things on fire
Nice one - that’s actually ‘the best way’ to play a first build in my opinion, despite all my advice and guides and “use minimal skills” philosophy. First build(s) - go crazy and see what skills you enjoy using, there’s plenty of time to get ‘serious’ later 👊🙂
That Grimworld example was definitely me, brought back some traumatic memories. 😆
I still have the problem of hoarding my skill points and not allocating them.
Always hoard skill points, never allocate them. Wreck dat build 👊😜
I screwed up my build before watching this. Went solider and poured all my points into everything in the 1st bracket. Lawlz.
My problem is the just as you said. The game does a poor job telling you what the hell is going on. Thankfully you make videos.
@@zironemegeaz I’m happy to help. Cheers for the comments 👊🙂
All points into forcewave is pretty OP though
Love your vids, very cheeky. Keep it up!
So, I've got 3 builds for the league coming up, each using a new MI.
1. Callidor tempest Mage hunter.
Primary MIs: S4 weapon, s3 shield, base medal to make Calli all lightning damage and cut the spam cost in half.
Pros: high damage reduction (flat and percent), shield block, decent life, decent phys res, huge damage.
Cons: it's callidor's tempest and I'm stuck in place for damage with no bonus movement ability.
2: Winter Thor Archon!
Primary MI: 2H mace/troll club
Pros: cold avengers shield with a 2h weapon (3x damage of a shield), perma wind devil, flat 50% phys and lightning converted to cold, high hp and the freedom to do whatever else with the build (playing pets focus with spam component chain lightning)
Cons: pretty squishy the way I set it up, designed to hit and run, so not ideal for hc.
3. Block-master defiler
MIs: S4 shield that gives 12% chance to block, 40% damage blocked and 45% ele to aether to spec binding, and 12% block chance, 35% block recovery and 50% ele to aether to flame touched.
Bonus MI for my version: s3 pistol that turns reaping strike to 100% aether for firestrike (100% aether) goodness.
Pros: 3.4k shield block at 63% chance with .4sec recharge, ranged playstyle, an oh crap button, high phys res, high life leech and RR out the butt.
Cons: probably low damage without good MI rolls (untested, so maybe), low mobility and aoe isn't the best.
I'm probably going to stick with the Calli build, d2 lightning nova here I come! Tho all will be played at some point.
So many builds make me want to play trade a bit, but I am for sure going to start in HCssf ! Let's go!
Remember to dump all attribute points in cunning and use the glitch where you buff every damage type you’re not using to max your resistance reduction.
But seriously … that’s some next-level build planning. I’ll probably wait to see what new thing drops first and do something with that 👊😜
@@Arcadelife1 lol, yeah. I wanted to use the new MI's, so I picked out 3 that looked fun and wasted a day and a half on grimtools that I should have been using to edit this book I'm supposed to turn in in November lol.
@@travissullivan6575 I’ll have a proper look at the MIs as soon as the season is live and I’m in the game. I want to put some vids out to show off at least a couple of the season 4 items and give the league and the season creators a bit of publicity and recognition.
I admit I've done some of these like a few points in mastery, but loads in the abilities to do more damage/heal more or such.
I feel like only the mastery selection and to a lesser degree the ability point allocation are the only ones that you listed that can actually "wreck your build". The others can be fixed by respecing/regearing and ability points can eventually be corrected though this will take many levels. Would have been good if you could have mentioned this. Though to be fair these are all problems for new players and good that you bring them up.
I was actually expecting some discussion about the story choices that can lock you out of factions (gear/augments), dungeons (gear), etc that if done on the final difficulty can mean that some end game builds will actually be impossible.
Thanks for the comment, those are great suggestions about story (faction) choices affecting gear access. 👊🙂
Nice tips. thanks!
Great info as usual, though picking two classes with no overlap means hunting for MIs lol
My favourite way to play, but kind of crazy to recommend to new players 👊😎
@@Arcadelife1 it's like basically play oathkeeper/shaman and anything, and it will be fine lol
What are MIs?
@@Steph1 Monster Infrequents
to be fair u can respect everything in this game except mastery soooooo.. u cant mess up too bad, but if u are new player i would just tell them to goes soldier and thats it LUL such a simple class.
But how do I know I’ve messed up? And how do I know what to respec into if I don’t know why my build is wrecked?
Sorry, I just had to … most of MY fails in Grim Dawn were due to not knowing I was failing and subsequently not fixing what was broken. The purpose of this video (series) is to highlight the pitfalls rather than just saying “it’s ok to screw up because you can respec everything”. I mean, you’re 100% correct about the ability to respec, but that’s not addressing the causes of the problems.
Cheers for the comment, it gave me something to respond to 👊🙂
@@Arcadelife1 for me my first messed up is when i am level 50 and my sorcerer have like 5k hp only cause i put tons into spirit... i was like this defenitely not right.... so i think its depend on case and it pretty clear what u messed up too if u ask me, or it might just not suit your playstyle for the current character so just find new one. its easy to leveling this game to at least 50 anyway i find my self re create tons of character when i was a noob until i satisfy
u can respect mastery levels... just click the '+' tab when visiting spirit guide to refund levels.
@@dark_SDKR it’s not possible without the expansion 👍
Part 2: all your gear and abilities buff one type of damage, then equip an MI that converts all your damage to a different damage type ... I have never done that before ... 🤥😜
Put 0 points in spirit and wonder why you always have energy problems. (I'd consider about 2 to 5 points as you're leveling)
Loving the damage conversion de-buff. Nobody has ever been affected by that in the entire history of the game 👊🤪
@@Arcadelife1 right? Right? Lol
Thanks man. Only thing I’m missing is a table / matrix with which profession mixes are useless. Eg Arcanist Inquisitor, is that simply ggwp or is every combination feasible if you pick useful skills?
Although some mastery combos are a bit weird and have limited ways they can be played effectively, the more I play the game the more I want to experiment with those combos. Here’s a very recent Arcanist/Inquisotor character using a main attack skill that is generally seen as ‘not that strong’ - ua-cam.com/video/Tp735ahngxc/v-deo.html - I found it to be a lot of fun, but I wasn’t going for the best ever OP build here 👊😜
@@Arcadelife1 I was considering a Soldier with 2 Blade Storm summons. Then again maybe bladestorm summons aren’t worth 50 nightblade mastery points 😅
A lot of sarcasm without saying much of what to actually do... Reading tooltips for someone who doesn't know the mechanics of the game is useless.. they don't know what skills synergize or not and reading won't tell them that this skill "matches" with this skill.
Yeah, sometimes I veer off into the realms of poking fun at the impenetrable complexities rather than delivering a stale list of stuff. As for the tooltips, not reading them at all is slightly less likely to be useful than reading them and starting the long journey to some kind of understanding 👊😜
OO So... this is why my... Joking joking! :D \o/ Audio is super quiet in this video.
Game sounds are low so they don’t interfere with my awesome commentary 👊😜
@@Arcadelife1 Yes but the super awesome commentary is also low :3
Seemed fine for me 😮
never in my time since fröggäir have i played something feeling so örgänic?.. just to raise chars etc.
only comparable with hundredds?? off hours similarlie or half as gr8 seems F76... but those expensive cards... lvl ´3400 ?xD
shootist and nightblade fe nowhere nears as good as double ranged class cömbö ! hardcore arpg vv
still waiting for a mix of darkest dungeon and vicilizatiön ^^
