On September 20, 2023, the Russian State Defense Company ROSTEC publicly announced the deployment of the latest generation, the 2S19M2, to the Russian armed forces, intended for rapid utilization in Ukraine. This updated self-propelled howitzer incorporates several significant enhancements. Having been in service since 1989, the Msta-S has already established itself as a crucial asset for Russia, notably during its operations in Ukraine.

This is scary just because of the artillery range.
The Russians have been developing this variant since 2011. It's really not new. But now the 2S19M2 is getting deployed to battles in big numbers. That is a big deal as there are credible reports that this mobile artillery variant can get effective fire to 80+ km, which means there can be little-no massing-formation of forces by the Ukrainians anywhere on the front.
the problem is... lack of accuracy... all in russia is like that.
80 km is possible with a sub caliber projectile like the Italo-German Vulkano 155 or a Rocket Assisted Projectile such as Excalibur. It’s got nothing to do with the gun and everything to do with the projectile. It’s possible this will be a another Russian Wonder weapon like the T14 or Su 57 no doubt they’re working on it

Krasnapol is hype. The USA had supplied the similar laser guided M712 copperhead to Ukraine. It requires a forward observer or drone to Lase and that Just isn’t possible in many situations.

its a modification they had some 1100 in stock. They can build new probably a good 50 - 60 units a year normal production scales, war time production could raise the numbers. They rely on older giansit s and 2s3 of which they would have 7000 in total, maybe 3000 to 4000 ready use and more that can be restored.

You can specify the distance in light years so long as you specify your base. Why the baseline of a line from the North Pole to an arbitrarily chosen point in Paris should be used as the basis for how far a howitzer can shoot is just stupid. The metric system is fine for engineering drawings and such, but it's simply inadequate in describing the real world where scale, precision and mensuration vary a great deal from one context to the next.

This is a big problem. Its long range makes it hard for Ukraine to detect it with drones, to use radars to detect it would force you to put your artillery radars close to the front and that is problematic. It will fire 3 røynda and move and that makes it close to inpossible to hit. Corectly used this is a dagnerus enemy.
But given Russian incompetence, will it be correctly used?

Ukrainian counter artillery radar is very effective and it’s western supplied guns outrange Russias even without Excalibur or Vulkano 155. Russian artillery has taken high losses. Ofcourse if you are watching Vatnik Russian TV and “combat verified” you know little of this.

Russia always begins awfully, takes heavy losses of men and equipment and ect.
But in this war it's been strange, they're losing men and equipment but a lot slower than the Ukrainians
(Russia has the advantages for: manpower, equipment, ammo, industry, a nearly intact air force, air defense, logistics and navy. Ukraine is recruiting police to plug the gaps and having to force men into military service now unfortunately, Ukraine is totally reliant of the west for ammo and equipment, they have scraps of an air force left and no air defenses)
But as the war progresses, and this happens in the majority of war Russia is involved with, they end up on the top, even if it takes years and massive casualties. Thankfully for those fighting, the casualties aren't high as people would think for Russia, but it would be nicer if there wasn't a war to begin with.
That’s exactly what I am seeing. As this war drags on, Russia is gradually coming up on top. Their doctrine works on drawn out wars. Ukraine has no more industrial base and their weapon supply relies entirely on the West. Soon as West appetite for war (or Ukrainian nationalism) dries out, it’s game over for Zelensky’s regime.

On top, Leopard and Bradley are fighting in the combat zone and are not placed somewhere behind the lines, so the chance of being destroyed is much higher....

This is more likely not an upgrade to Russia's artillery. Instead, it is probably a result of Russia losing so many of its artillery units already deployed in Ukraine.
