    Thanks JJ. As is, this little yak is comfortable for me like an old pair of jeans. I love it. And it fits in the back of my little Ranger pickup with no effort. I've taken it out 7 miles to a barrier island and spent the night. Once at the ramp, I can get it on the water in half the time of the guys with bigger yaks. It's my Millennium Falcon. 'She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts'

    I think you're right, Nate. I would probably really enjoy sailing. But, I'm afraid it would get in the way of fishing, what with all the stuff I already bring along with me. Finding a place to stow the rigging, sail and mast on my tiny yak might prove impossible, even for me :) At least, impractical, as I never have far to go before I'm casting a line out. Thanks for watching and for the kind words.

    I just found your channel. Man, your vids have refreshed my sense of humanity! I am glad there are others who can and will embrace the "more fun, less money" aspect of fishing, and by the same token, life! Thank you. I am a brand new father, so cash is at a premium. I hope there are some in the new generation (including my son) that take pride in home grown ingenuity! But you inspire us "do-it-your-selfers" to reach new heights! Or at least new casting directions! Thanks again.

    I've been toying with the idea of getting a fishing kayak for a few months now and watching your videos has convinced me that it's worth doing. I'd never thought about how adaptable they were and how much they could be customised, you've given me a whole new perspective, thanks for sharing your awesome insights, much respect brother.

    You can see the colored lights through the black paint. Still, a watercraft under oar power (like a canoe or kayak) is only required to have a white light. Even a hand held flashlight would meet the requirements, which makes the nav light superfluous.

  • @zoffinger
    @zoffinger  12 років тому

    I use stainless steel screws to hold the 'eye pads' down. They hold tight, they don't pull out and as long as they're above the water line, they don't leak. Not enough to be noticeable, that is. I have LOTS of holes and spend all day out there all the time without getting any leakage. But some people add a drop of silicone to the bottom of the pads for extra protection .

    I work with architectural foam and had some lying around. Try searching for a local shop. Google 'EPS foam and your town's name' Or try large pvc. I have seen some cool designs using pvc. It's available at Home Depot or Lowes and it's much sturdier. Thanks for the comment MrM.

    Marty, you're such an inspiration... a great example. I am in FL as well, still somewhat new to kayak fishing. I have a very normal kayak in the very first stages of fishing modification. Thank you for the great ideas. It's particularly inspiring to see you fashion all of these ideas yourself. Well done!

    You diy videos have inspired me to modify my own kayak. It's cheap and fun. I caught some 12 inch Black Crappies on Lake Winnebago (Wisconsin) a couple weeks ago. That was a great time. Thank you for the video! It was very helpful. After a wake capsized me last week a half mile out from shore, I was looking at ways to make a stabilizer. A lot of waters I couldn't fish because I knew it was going to happen, and it did. I lost a lot of gear and a knife my dad gave me when I was a kid. Can't be replaced. I'm off to Homedepot to grab some pvc now. Thanks a lot , great ideas all!!!

    Nice job! I started out on a two seat kayak, then five boats after that. I now have an ocean boat and a canoe for smaller lakes but am thinking of getting a single seat kayak for those days when I don't want to hassle prepping the boat for some inshore fishing. Once again, great stuff!

  • @zoffinger
    @zoffinger  12 років тому +1

    Someone else has mentioned that, but you got me to do it. Even though I always fish over sandy bottoms in shallow water, I know a good suggestion when I hear it. Your reminder finally got me to go ahead and follow up on it.- I also made the anchor easily detachable and added a float in case another 200lb tarpon takes my bait while I'm anchored I can quickly get unachored and go for a sleigh ride! I recently got spooled while anchored :^/

  • @zoffinger
    @zoffinger  12 років тому

    That's actually a neat idea. I bet it would help you track straight through the water. You'd have to be weary of hitting bottom though while you have the pontoons locked in the down position.

  • @zoffinger
    @zoffinger  11 років тому +1

    I am going to make a video soon showing what everything weighs. I'm curious myself. And I have tried lots of variations of not going out with this or that, but my true comfort zone is with everything attached. Especially the pontoons!

  • @zoffinger
    @zoffinger  12 років тому

    Placing the pontoons near the back of the boat would help prevent it from veering left or right while going forward much like the way fins will stabilize a rocket. The effects aren't nearly as dramatic on the water, but might be enough to be unacceptable during windy conditions if the pontoons are up front. That's my guess.

    I love watching your videos. I got a Sun Dolphin Journey 10SS and promptly put an anchor trolley on it. I haven't added any cleats so I'm not exactly sure how to hook the line onto the trolley and manage the extra in an organized way. I'd love to add a skeg and possibly pontoons because it's not as stable as I had hoped. I also made a cart for it using plastic wheels from a lawn spreader I got for $3. It's so handy! You're an inspiration and wonderfully creative! I'd go fishing with you any day!

    Thank you, HY
    The real dangers are the treble hooks, barnacles, sharks, sting rays, alligators, snakes, oyster beds and the spikes on the fish's fins. THOSE things scare me! The stuff on the kayak hasn't been a problem. Though, a strong fish circling the boat can snag line on all those lil nooks and crannies. An acceptable price if the fish is landed!

    Wow you really did a great job tweeking out this vessel! The cut away to show how you did this was awesome too! Not that I qualify to give advice but I found rare earth magnets to be helpful. Buy at Harbor Freight glue to small tackle boxes and on boat holds fishing lures in place and box if done right. Would not recommend for replacing strap or bungie tie down but when trying to find that lure that works for that day its great. Great video thanks for taking the time to document you fishing boat

    Imitation is the best form of flattery. As for the pontoons interfering, you may be right. The rods might interfere a little with them. But, here's the thing; Honestly, I don't notice the extra drag the pontoons make, but I DO notice the lack of stability with them up out of the water. So nowadays, they are always in the down position. So the rods never interfere anymore :)
